Final Fantasy 14 patch 5.4 preliminary notes are up, complete with new quest details

December 4, 2020 The preliminary patch notes for Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.4 are now available.

Over the last couple of Final Fantasy 14 Letter From The Producer livestreams, developer Square Enix has revealed a whole bunch of details about what's in store for the MMORPG's incoming 5.4 patch. Aside from confirming the Final Fantasy 14 patch 5.4 release date is set for December 8, the studio's also announced the online RPG game's in for a bunch of dungeons, scenario quests, content updates, a new game mode, and more when launch time rolls around.

The new main scenario quests headed to FF14 for patch 5.4, 'Futures Rewritten', will send you off on an all-new adventure, the studio's explained, given patch 5.3's epic Shadowbringers finale has now concluded. We've got our first good peek at what this will bring with a new trailer, which we've included for you to check out below. The preliminary patch notes have now been published, which you can read here. Further details on job changes will be made available nearer to launch.

Additionally, Square Enix says there's a new raid dungeon called Eden's Promise on the way - the "third chapter in the eight-player Eden raid series brings new challenging battles available as both normal and savage difficulties". It seems this will conclude the Eden storyline, and that all the questions previously left open-ended about Gaia and Ryne will be answered in it (according to a fan community translation in the Final Fantasy 14 Discord). Another new dungeon, Matoya's Relict, lets you tackle its challenge alongside a gaggle of pals or non-players using the game's Trust systems.

Patch 5.4 Notes (Preliminary)

Patch 5.4 brings a multitude of additions and refinements to the realm. Adventurers of every persuasion are sure to find something to enjoy in this exciting new update.

* Additional features will be implemented in future updates:
Ishgardian Restoration updates are scheduled to be released in Patch 5.41.
Blue mage, Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhildr, Resistance weapons, and Skysteel tools updates are scheduled to be released in Patch 5.45.

Patch 5.4 will be arriving on Tuesday, December 8!

Final Fantasy 14 showcase happening February 2021 to announce "cool things"

An "announcement showcase" for Final Fantasy 14 will take place early next year. The news event for the MMORPG game is likely to be where we get the big reveal of the next major expansion.

Developer Square Enix announced the livestream on Twitter, writing "We've got something else in store...", and adding "We'll be announcing cool things." The showcase will take place on February 5, at 17:30 PST / 20:30 EST, meaning February 6 for anyone in the UK and Ireland, at 01:30 GMT. The broadcast will feature live translation from Japanese to English.

It's very likely we'll see the latest expansion for the RPG game titled and shown off during the event. The last three Final Fantasy 14 expansions, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, were all formally revealed between October and November of 2014, 2016, and 2018, respectively. Odds are the plan was to hold to this schedule and divulge Final Fantasy 14's next chapter at the North American Fan Festival that was due to take place this November, before the pandemic made such gatherings impossible.

Final Fantasy 14 patch 5.4 release date confirmed for December

November 27, 2020 Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.4's release date has been confirmed as December 8.

After the COVID-19-driven delays to the patch 5.3 release date, the devs behind Final Fantasy XIV promised things were back on track. Now, the studio has confirmed that patch 5.4 is indeed set to launch in December, as was announced earlier this year - on December 8, in fact. So, you've got less than two weeks to wait before you can dive into the MMORPG game's major new content drop.

The release date comes via the Final Fantasy 14 Twitter channel, which has posted: "Futures rewritten. Futures unknown. FFXIV Patch 5.4 - Futures Rewritten arrives Tuesday, December 8!" alongside a brand-new clip treating us to nearly three minutes of patch 5.4 footage. We've included that for you to eyeball further down the story.

As you can see, we get some snazzy new snapshots of the new main scenario campaign, Futures Rewritten, coming with the patch. The clip probably raises more questions about what we can expect from the brand-new adventure than it answers - but it looks pretty spectacular (and plenty action-packed).
