FF14 director Naoki Yoshida doesn't like Dawntrail's best character

Of all the many pieces of FF14 Dawntrail, one of its most universally beloved parts is The Arcadion raid series. It takes perhaps the strongest element of the new Final Fantasy expansion - its combat content - and builds on it with a series of bold, dramatic characters reminiscent of pro wrestling, each with their own distinctive personality and a theme song to match. Given the chance to sit down with game director and producer Naoki Yoshida at Gamescom, then, I had to ask the most important question: which of the fighters is his favorite?

FF14 Dawntrail's extra server is shutting down after a flawless launch

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail has had a shockingly trouble-free launch. The MMO's last expansion, Endwalker, had hour-long queue times and got so popular Square Enix had to stop selling it, but Dawntrail has been effortless in comparison. I played every day during the early access and full launch, with congestion hitting highs of just 100 players. Within minutes I was in the game, and the entire community enjoyed similar stories. This is because Square Enix took plenty of measures to make Dawntrail's launch a simple one, but now one of those features is going away.

Square Enix knows about FF14's weird faces, and a fix is coming

Square Enix promises more Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail graphics updates, as players continue to voice concern over the MMO's character models and lighting since patch 7.0. The colossal graphics overhaul brought much-improved lighting, resolution, and detail while keeping FF14's unique style intact. That said, not every playable race in the game is looking sharp, but this shouldn't be the case for much longer.

Square Enix hasn't said anything yet, but it looks like a mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is on its way to China

It looks like that rumoured mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is on the way, as one has just been approved for release in China.

Last month it was reported that Tencent was working on a mobile version of the immensely popular MMO Final Fantasy 14, and it appears that said report has been confirmed. Niko Partners shared a report this week stating that China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) approved 15 import games on August 2, which includes some pretty big titles. As stated by Niko Partners, "A mobile game based on Final Fantasy XIV is being developed by Tencent and Square Enix and was approved." Obviously the language there suggests that it'll be its own game, rather than an outright port of the game.

Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners shared on his personal Twitter account that this mobile take on Final Fantasy 14 is "expected to be a standalone MMORPG separate from the PC game," so it doesn't exactly sound like you'll be able to take your warrior of light with you in your pocket, at least not for the time being. When asked by someone on Twitter if the game is already done, Ahmad further explained that it "should be close to done" but "it could be another 3 to 6 months before we hear about it from Square Enix."
