FFXIV patch 6.1 has massive White Mage, Dark Knight buffs

The FFXIV patch 6.1 release time is nigh, as the MMO has gone down for maintenance ahead of the patch's launch, and the update is set to bring us the promised White Mage buffs and Dark Knight buffs. The full patch notes are here with all the job changes listed in detail, and the improvements to those two classes in particular are even bigger than the community expected.

Dark Knight's Blood Weapon (which still restores MP and increases the Blood Gauge when landing skills) now stacks up to five times, and lasts 15 seconds, up from ten. The Living Dead now restores your HP with every single skill landed, dramatically lifting Dark Knight's survivability - and, likely lifting it out of the status of the game's worst tank class. (Tanks across the board are getting a major quality of life improvement, too, as stance abilities are dropping to three second cooldowns across the board.)

White Mage, meanwhile, has been regarded as the game's worst healer for some time. You'll now get a lily on the Healing Gauge every 20 seconds you're in battle (down from 30), and Afflatus Misery has been dramatically increased in potency. It's no longer a waste to use that DPS ability instead of Glare, so there's more focus on the job gauge, and more healing options as you play.

There will finally be an FFXIV auto-target option in 6.1

The preliminary patch notes for patch 6.1 live, and it looks like we're finally getting a proper FFXIV auto-target option. That could be a massive quality-of-life upgrade over the current, extremely limited auto-target setting. While the biggest additions to the MMO this patch were already noted in previous Live Letters, there are plenty of notable new tweaks and details in the update details.

When the FFXIV patch 6.1 release date arrives on Tuesday, April 12, you'll find a new 'auto-target settings' section in the target section of the character configuration menu. This will target-based abilities to automatically select an enemy when you have no target specified, and is sure to be a lifesaver when you're spamming AOEs on trash mobs in your dungeon roulettes. You'll be able to choose whether the system prioritises the closest target or the next enemy in your line of sight.

There's far too much in the patch notes to run everything down here, but some of the highlights include the fact that players can now be revived after falling from the arena in duties like The Navel and the Extreme version of Whorleater.

FFXIV Hatching-tide 2022 tributes an absurd community moment

The FFXIV Hatching-tide 2022 event has been confirmed. Final Fantasy XIV's Easter event will return this year, with a new reward paying tribute to one of the most absurd moments in the history of the MMORPG's community. Yes, folks. You'll soon be able to 'eat egg' forever.

Hatching-tide 2022 begins on Wednesday, April 13 at 1am PDT / 4am EDT / 9am BST, just after the FFXIV 6.1 release date, and will conclude on April 27. For that duration, you'll be able to pick up the event quest from the egg-headed Jihli Aliapoh in Old Gridania (X:10.2, Y:9.4), and earn rewards like a hatching bunny minion, some eggy furniture items, and the new eat egg emote.

You might recall an event with former Game Grump Ross O'Donovan last year, in which he pledged to eat over 100,000 eggs in Final Fantasy XIV, over the course of multiple full days of streaming. Why? None can say. "I don't know if I even slightly impacted the decision to have this as an emote," O'Donovan says today on Twitter. "But you better believe I'm getting it."
