FFXIV is getting Steam account linking to "enhance security"

Square Enix is introducing Steam account linking to Final Fantasy XIV to "further enhance account security and bolster fraud prevention measures". The change will come into play early next month, at which point you'll be prompted to link your FFXIV account to your Steam one if that's where you hang your hat.

To link your account, you'll need to possess an FFXIV licence that matches the one found on your Square Enix account. You can verify the licences by clicking on your Steam display name, selecting 'account details', and then clicking on 'view licences and product key activations' under the store and purchase history. If you're looking to find out what type of account you have, you can head over to the Mog Station and select the 'service account status' menu, where you should see a Steam notation if it applies to you.

Currently, you can use your FFXIV log-in to play on anyone's Steam account regardless of whether it's yours or not. However, once the change comes into play, your FFXIV log-in will be tied to one Steam account.

FFXIV's Valentine's Day event returns soon - here's when and where

Valentine's Day is nearly here, so all your favourite games are getting seasonal events to send you all aflutter, and Final Fantasy XIV is no different. While the Halloween-themed All Saints' Wake was a tad late, Valentine's Day is arriving right on time.

FFXIV's Valentione's Day event kicks off on February 8 at midnight PST, 3am PST, and 8am GMT. The event runs to February 21. Once the time comes, you can head to Old Gridania to meet Lisette de Valentione at coordinates X:10.2 / Y:9.4, who will have a seasonally appropriate quest for you. You only have to be level 15 to do it, so most of you should be just dandy.

This time around, you're getting an outfit - barding, if you're fancy - for your company-issued Chocobo mount to dress it up like a delivery person. You can also get some new decorations for your home if you're lucky enough to, uh, actually own one. Square Enix has also clarified that certain items from previous Valentine's Day events can be obtained from the House Valentione maid, so if you've missed out previously, now's your shot.

FFXIV's next Letter from the Producer looks to the next ten years of the MMO

Square Enix has locked in a date for Final Fantasy XIV's next Letter from the Producer stream, confirming some details and teases we learned through previous comments and translations.

First, the when. FFXIV's upcoming live letter takes place on February 18 at 6pm PST / 9pm EST, translating to 2am GMT on February 19 - oaft. As always, you can watch the stream on YouTube or Twitch. Make sure you set aside plenty of time, though, as these broadcasts can take a few hours.

Now, the what. Square Enix has confirmed that producer Naoki Yoshida will be chatting about the next ten years of Final Fantasy XIV. While Yoshida's more recent blog posts have focused on servers and balance changes, he has teased that a few reveals are planned this month, which should give us some more clues about the MMO's next expansion as well as new content to tide us over until that arrives. We also have a good idea of what that new content will be. Square Enix has previously revealed that FFXIV is getting a new alliance raid called Myths of the Realm that focuses on the Twelve, a Stardew Valley-like mode called Island Sanctuary, and the female Hrothgar race as part of the Endwalker run.

FFXIV's first Endwalker raid encounter has now been soloed by a Paladin

The big bad of the Pandaemonium Asphodelos: First Circle raid is having a tough time of it right now. A Final Fantasy XIV player recently soloed Erichthonios with a Warrior, inspiring one using the Paladin job to repeat the trick.

SuperTwoU explains on YouTube that Aka Ada's impressive feat inspired them to see if they could do it with a Paladin. Aside from testing out if they could survive the team stack without using the Hallowed Ground ability, they admit to not doing too much preparation. Rather, they jump in headfirst and "flail around wildly". I mean, hey, it worked, so who is anyone to judge?

The FFXIV player uploaded their run to YouTube, which roughly clocks in at one hour and 20 minutes. It's a fun watch, though. SuperTwoU isn't afraid to laugh at themselves when they make a goof, and they do an excellent job of running you through their thought process. I don't see myself tackling Erichthonios with a Paladin or a Warrior any time soon, but I appreciate the lesson in high-level raiding.
