FF14 director Yoshida adds fuel to my 8.0 theories as he promises that the MMO is "ready to change" in 2026

As Heavensturn arrives and the calendar flips to 2026, Final Fantasy 14 is gearing up for its next expansion. There's been no end of speculation and theorizing about what the FF14 8.0 update might look like, with the recent (and rather fantastic) patch 7.4 offering some very tantalizing hints but little in the way of concrete answers. Will we even see it before the end of the year? Based on game director Naoki Yoshida's New Year's Greetings, it sounds like there's more of a chance of that than we might have thought.

With a new year waiting just around the corner, the Far Eastern delegation is keen to share their Heavensturn customs with the realm once again. To that end, the uma bugyo and uma yoriki have descended upon Limsa Lominsa with an endearing─and rather anxious─equine mascot in tow. FF14 patch 7.4 is here, but its Red Mage and Gunbreaker changes have me worried that job design is going backwards

Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.4 is finally here. We've been waiting for it for a while, with all eyes on job balancing ahead of Square Enix's proposed rework, set to drop with 8.0. While the plan is to make the MMO's classes feel more distinct, following the controversial changes to Black Mage, there are rumblings that the upcoming adjustments may do more harm than good. While 7.4's new raids are going down a treat, some of the Gunbreaker and Red Mage tweaks have sparked further concerns, with the former feeling a little too easy and the latter losing some of its mobility.

Patch 7.4 is live!

We are proud to present the patch notes for Into the Mist, which sees adventures begin anew in the wake of Calyx's defeat.

This patch also introduces the new trial, Hell on Rails, the new raid dungeon, Arcadion: Heavyweight Division, the latest campaign addition to Frontline, Worqor Chirteh (Triumph), along with a wide-ranging glamour update and a host of new features, including strategy boards and the Command Panel.

* Additional features will be implemented in future updates:

Oizys─the new cosmic exploration destination, Tool Enhancement Quests - Cosmic Tools, and Weapon Enhancement Quests - Phantom Weapons are scheduled to release in Patch 7.41.
The new variant dungeon (The Merchant's Tale) and Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures sidequests are scheduled to release in Patch 7.45.
