Stardew Valley just became an esport with a $40,000 tournament in September

Lightyear Frontier looks like Stardew Valley with a dash of No Man's Sky

While it took a few years of updates for No Man's Sky to get mech suits and four-player co-op, the opening shots of the reveal trailer for Lightyear Frontier immediately calls that game's colourful alien landscapes to mind. And what Lightyear Frontier is missing in galaxy-spanning scale, it makes up for with Stardew Valley-style farming.

Lightyear Frontier puts you on an alien planet with a mech suit you can use to tame the wilderness. You'll be able to cultivate crops and build a farm to protect your resources from weather effects and the ravages of the local wildlife - though it seems the creatures of this planet are herbivores, as they'll mostly be interested in eating your vegetables, not you.

You can use the resources you harvest to upgrade your mech for further exploration on the planet. A host of alien ruins are around to discover, with an eons-old mystery there to drag you along for the ride - a ride you can enjoy in four-player co-op, as well.

Stardew Valley is coming to Game Pass

Judging by the player counts the game has posted over the years, there's statistically a pretty good chance you've played Stardew Valley - but maybe you're looking for an excuse to rope your friends in for a co-op session. Either way, it's about to be even more convenient to get in, because Stardew Valley is coming to Game Pass.

Stardew Valley is set to launch on Xbox Game Pass for both PC and console, developer Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone announced on today's ID@Xbox Showcase. "There's not a set release date yet, but it's probably sometime in the fall. It'll be on both Windows and Xbox consoles. I really hope that it brings Stardew Valley to a lot more people."

We still don't know what's next for Stardew Valley, but during today's interview, Barone says "I could probably continue working on Stardew Valley forever, with the amount of ideas I have. I love the world. I love making it better. I feel like it's a never-ending thing I could do, to make it better. I just put those ideas in these updates and keep the game going, and it's been fun."
