1.5 Content Update -- Now Available!

Hi everyone,

Santa came early... Stardew Valley's 1.5 update is now available! As always, this update is completely free for anyone who owns Stardew Valley.

1.5 adds a big piece of new content to the "end-game" of Stardew Valley.
Now, completing the Community Center is just the beginning...

It's not all about end-game content, though... there's plenty of new stuff all throughout the game, as well as useful improvements and convenience features.

This update also adds local (split-screen) co-op.

I like to keep most of the big stuff secret, so that you'll be surprised when you encounter it in game.
However, if you don't mind spoiling it, and want to know everything that's in the update,
here's a full changelog.

A no-spoiler list of some of the new features:
  • Local (split-screen) co-op
  • New people to meet
  • New goals
  • Many new items
  • A new type of quest
  • A new farm layout
  • New game options like "remixed" bundles (see below)
  • New character events
  • A new Community Upgrade
  • Home renovations (after you've fully upgraded your house)
  • Ducks can now swim
  • You can sit in chairs
  • You can move your bed
  • Fish Tanks
  • A bunch of new furniture items as well as new furniture types like wall sconces
  • New secrets
  • 9 new music tracks
  • And so much more... you'll just have to see, I can't bear to spoil it

If you are starting a new farm for this update, make sure to check out the new farm layout (Beach Farm) and the advanced game options menu (click the wrench icon in the lower left of the character creation screen). Choosing "Remixed" bundles randomizes the Community Center bundles with some brand new ones, and variations of the classics.

NOTE: To play split-screen mode, you'll need cabins on your farm to house the other players (Robin can build them, or If you're starting a new game, you can choose to start with cabins already placed on the farm via the advanced game options menu). Once the cabins are there, open your game menu, scroll down to multiplayer, and select "Start local co-op" . The other player can now press start on a controller to initiate split-screen.

Well, please have fun with the new update, and as always, thanks for playing Stardew Valley!

-ConcernedApe

Edit: We're aware of a crash if you're playing in a non-english language and you open one of the Community Center bundle menus. A hotfix will be coming out soon (Update 5:00pm PST... the hotfix is live!)

Edit 2 (TURKISH): we've released a hotfix for a crash that was happening when playing in Turkish (2:46AM PST)

Edit 3: at 2:30PM PST we released a hotfix for the issue where seeing the Leo event in multiplayer could cause non-host players to warp into the walls.

Stardew Valley's next update will add a beach farm

Beach farm! Beach farm! Beach farm! I might just be overexcited because I’m playing a lot of Stardew Valley at the moment, but developer ConcernedApe has revealed the game’s next update will come with a brand new farmstead – the beach! It might sound like a nice little seaside getaway, but this farm seems like a tough one to get started with – mostly because sprinklers won’t work on that pesky sand.

If you fancy even more of a challenge, ConcernedApe says update 1.5 is bringing some “Advanced Game Options” too, making community centre bundles and mine rewards a little more interesting.

This Stardew Valley mod turns Studio Ghibli's Totoro, soot sprites, and more into critters

You can give the wildlife of Stardew Valley a Studio Ghibli twist using this mod. Several of the animals that roam the farming game are replaced by famous creatures from the popular anime films.

Titled Ghibli Critters, the mod turns most of the birds and other small critters you see in Stardew's forestry into some beloved Studio Ghibli creations. The woodpecker and squirrel become Totoro and Chu-Totoro, of My Neighbor Totoro, the sparrow is turned into Kodama from Princess Mononoke, the white rabbit becomes Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service, the owl is transformed into No Face from Spirited Away, and the soot sprite takes the place of the frogs.

The mod was created by sopholophagus as their first mod. Three of the open-world game's wee creatures remain unchanged, and might become something in the Ghibli repertoire at a later date. Given this is their first modification, do be wary of unexpected errors or glitches, and let them know if you find any. You can make your own in-game Ghibli-verse by combining this with a mod that inserts the wizard's tower from Howl's Moving Castle, a positively magical way to play in the valley.

Stardew Valley 1.5 brings beach farms and "advanced game options"

Last month, Stardew Valley creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone announced that the farming game's upcoming 1.5 version was "in the home stretch" of development. There's still no word on an exact Stardew Valley 1.5 release date just yet, but the dev has now highlighted some of its new features - which include a new farm type and menu option for game tweaks.

"If you're a seasoned player thinking of starting a new farm when 1.5 comes out, I'd like to highlight a couple of new features," Barone says on Twitter. "There will be a new farm type, 'Beach Farm', and a new 'Advanced Game Options' menu, from which you can adjust some aspects of the game." There's no screenshot to take a peep at of the new farm type just yet, but this'll surely be exciting news for fans keen to branch out from the base simulation game's more rural offerings and try a whole other flavour of farm.

We do get a description, however: "Good foraging and fishing, and tons of open space," the screenshot reads, and it sounds like we'll be able to make use of flotsam and jetsam being that close to the big blue, too: "Sometimes, supply crates wash up on shore". However, there's an element of challenge in that sprinklers won't work on a beach farm's sandy soil - plus, there'll be "some regular soil, but not much". Grass will grow on the sand, though. Sweet.

We're in the height of new videogame release season, but that doesn't mean your old favourites are falling by the wayside. Stardew Valley 1.5 is still on the way, and it's getting close. The game's developer says the new patch is in the "home stretch", and it's a "very big update", so we should have plenty of content to look forward to.

"The 1.5 update is in the 'home stretch'", Stardew Valley creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone says on Twitter. "It's a very big update so there is a lot of polishing and bug fixing necessary to make sure it's ready. It'll be very fun to share it with all of you in the near future. I think you'll be really happy and surprised with all the new stuff!"

We've gotten only a few details on what 1.5 will contain so far, and there's a big variety of new features both big and small. Everything from split-screen co-op to banana trees and the option to move your bed.
