Stardew Valley's board game adaptation looks as cosy as the farming simulator

Surprise! Stardew Valley has now got its own board game spin. Creator Eric 'Concerned Ape' Barone took to his website to reveal that he has been plugging away at this one for more than two and a half years with board game designer Cole Medeiros. Oh, and it's available to purchase right now.

Barone explains that the board game is designed to capture the essence of the tranquil farming simulator. You can expect villagers, crops, animals, fishing, foraging, mining, and more. The way it works is pretty simple. You play through a full year in the game with up to four players, and each game works out to be around 45 minutes per player - though you can adjust that for a shorter game.

Your goal here is to protect the Valley. The sign of success is the Valley coming back to life as Joja Corporation gets booted from town. You accomplish this by completing Grandpa's Goals and, in turn, restoring the Community Centre. Those goals are randomised for each game, though, so don't expect the same thing twice in a row.

1.5.4 Patch Out Now

Hi everyone,
The 1.5.4 patch is now available. It fixes some more lingering issues from the 1.5 update, and makes some slight adjustments to the game. Hopefully this is the last bug fix patch necessary for 1.5.

Below is a changelog:

- Adjusted the logic for checking for Perfection so that it accounts for games where the farm switched to the Joja route partway through a Community Center playthrough.
- Lucky Rings no longer lose their luck bonus overnight.
- Fixed an issue where fishing with multiple rods in your inventory after catching a treasure could cause strange animations and softlocks when casting from a different rod. This was the cause of the infamous "fishing rod in head" bug that has existed in Stardew Valley since day 1.
- Pam no longer visits the Island Resort on Sandy's birthday.
- Fixed a rare crash that could occur when watching an event in multiplayer as the clock hits midnight/1:00 AM.
- The sound of fiber crops being harvested can no longer be heard if you are in another area.
- The Stardew Valley Fair shop no longer sells multiples of the randomly chosen items. Tea Sapling has also been replaced by Triple Shot Espresso.
- Qi Challenge and Special Order related items are now properly removed from both Marlon's Item Recovery Service, and items requested to be recovered are now removed from the mailbox once the quest expires.
- Fixed an exploit where entering the Skull Caves would immediately unlock all 120 floors on the elevator.
- Fixed a rare instance where a charged Hoe could dislodge a non-empty chest and destroying its contents if it was placed in a specific configuration next to other chests.
- Fixed an issue where the buttons in the Calico Jack and Calico Spin minigames wouldn't respond to controller input if the UI Scale setting didn't match Zoom Level setting.
- Bombing certain floor tiles in the Quarry mine area no longer spawns items.
- You can no longer collect Golden Coconuts from Palm Trees in the Desert.
- You can no longer interact with objects while warping using the Scepter of Return.
- You can no longer place and retrieve certain wallpapers in chests to obtain a Lost Book.
- Trees no longer grow on top of placed furniture items.
- Fixed a minor graphical inconsistency with the quality indicator on procedurally-colored objects such as flowers.
- Fixed a formatting issue with Leo's first event in the Korean localization, preventing the event from completing.
- The Special Order board is no longer invisible during summer in the Korean localization.
- Various localization corrections.

Stardew Valley update breaks multiplayer fishing, hotfix is live

The latest Stardew Valley update broke multiplayer fishing, but a hotfix has been released. The farming game has been on a high since the rollout of one of its biggest waves of new content since launch.

Late last year, Stardew Valley update 1.5 came out, bringing a new region in addition to a mass of other features. A few incremental updates have come since, fixing and tweaking everything so the open-world game remains stable and hospitable to all players. Unfortunately, update 1.5.3 proved a touch counter-intuitive in this respect, breaking the fishing in multiplayer.

On Saturday morning, developer Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone tweeted about the issue, acknowledging the bug and saying that a hotfix is being worked on. An hour or so later, the hotfix was live, hopefully quashing the problem for good. These are all the kind of teething pains one can expect when releasing a mammoth new wave of gameplay, especially for an indie game. Make sure to keep an eye on the help and bug reports section of the forum if you need a solution for anything, or have an issue that warrants being looked at.

1.5.3 Patch Out Now

Hi everyone,
The 1.5.3 patch is now available. It fixes some more lingering issues from the 1.5 update, makes some slight adjustments to the game, and adds better support for high-res displays. Below is a changelog:

- Added an experimental change to allow the game to render correctly on ultra-wide displays.
- Fix for various cases where the player could get stuck/soft-locked in an animation after using a tool.
- If the player is flagged as having seen the Summit event but does not have its music marked as heard, they can re-trigger the event. The music will be marked as "heard" immediately.
- The Summit event now properly triggers if the player is married to another player character.
- Fixed rare issue where you could spawn onto the cliffs on the northwest corner of the map near the Ginger Island docks.
- Fix for post-6 heart Leo using the wrong schedule on Wednesdays.
- Slight adjustments to Leo's gift tastes.
- Crab Pots are now affected by the crab pot related professions of the farmer who refills the bait. This fixes a case in multiplayer where a player's profession (such as Mariner) would appear to not work because the Crab Pot was originally placed in the water by someone else.
- Fixed an issue where the Quality Bobber was not applying its bonus.
- You can now catch Night Market fish using Magic Bait in the southwest corner of the Beach.
- Fixed an issue where you could get soft-locked if you hooked a fish right as the Pirate cave event begins.
- Fixed some minor data entry issues on Normal Bundles that also appear in Remixed Bundles (Animal Bundle requiring a Small Brown Egg instead of a Large White Egg, and normal Cheese not being an option in the Artisan bundle)
- Made Prismatic Slimes a little more common (1/125 chance to 1/83 chance) and also made daily luck slightly modify the chances of encountering it.
- Fixed bug preventing Prismatic Slimes from not dropping Prismatic Jelly in rare cases.
- The Strange Capsule now only spawns once per game.
- Made Stone Owl rarer and touched up the sprite.
- Fixed bug where the Strange Capsule would leave a residual light glow.
- The overnight Lost & Found tool check now also checks the Island Farmhouse fridge.
- Penny's 14 heart event now places your existing bed in a chest rather than replacing it.
- Qi Beans/Fruit are now properly removed from any machines/craftables after the Qi Challenge expires.
- You can no longer catch Qi Beans when fishing during festivals.
- Fixed a crash that could occur if a Dust Spirit's stone-breaking move would cause a Qi Bean to spawn.
- Removed a long delay after talking to the Gourmand when you've got the crop he's requested growing, but not yet fully grown.
- Furniture is no longer visible/can no longer block movement during events that take place outside of the Farm.
- The daytime music from Ginger Island can now properly be played on the Saloon jukebox.
- Fix for a crash using a Warp Totem while the Mermaid Show is playing.
- You can now properly go back to sleep immediately after waking up after passing out.
- Fixed various item duplication glitches related to moving Rings around in certain menus.
- Fixed certain gemstones appearing on the Daily Quest board before they are actually accessible ingame.
- Fixed the menu backgrounds option displaying incorrectly when playing on splitscreen on a rainy day.
- The Farmer no longer blinks while charging a tool. This was causing a minor visual issue.

- (Modding) Fixed big craftables losing mod data when removed.
- (Modding) Fixed an issue where going from one floor to another on horseback inside the Volcano could cause the player to be positioned incorrectly on the next floor.
