Stardew Valley 1.5 is "in the home stretch" of development

We're in the height of new videogame release season, but that doesn't mean your old favourites are falling by the wayside. Stardew Valley 1.5 is still on the way, and it's getting close. The game's developer says the new patch is in the "home stretch", and it's a "very big update", so we should have plenty of content to look forward to.

"The 1.5 update is in the 'home stretch'", Stardew Valley creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone says on Twitter. "It's a very big update so there is a lot of polishing and bug fixing necessary to make sure it's ready. It'll be very fun to share it with all of you in the near future. I think you'll be really happy and surprised with all the new stuff!"

We've gotten only a few details on what 1.5 will contain so far, and there's a big variety of new features both big and small. Everything from split-screen co-op to banana trees and the option to move your bed.

Stardew Valley is getting splitscreen co-op for up to four players

The next Stardew Valley update will be bringing splitscreen co-op to the farming game. The creator confirmed the addition, and some other details, on Twitter recently.

Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone, the mastermind behind Stardew Valley, dropped a bombshell regarding the upcoming content by tweeting that splitcreen co-op will arrive as part of update 1.5. "In Stardew Valley 1.5, there will be splitscreen co-op," his tweet declares, with an in-game screenshot of what the multiplayer experience will look like.

Like any typical local co-operative mode, the screen will be split into parts, depending on how many are playing. In the example given, it's two, with full UI either side. The amount of space allowed between players seems like it might be quite large, if there's any barriers at all, as the two sides are clearly in very different terrain. In a follow-up tweet in replies, Barone confirms the feature is coming to all platforms, however PC is the only place that's guaranteed to support up to four players, whereas others "might be limited" to only two.

Lonesome Village meshes Stardew Valley's town management with Zelda's dungeons

Cutesy puzzle-stuffed life simulator Lonesome Village stars a coyote named Wes with a mysterious past. It's also more than doubled its Kickstarter goal since it launched last Thursday, and it's already shaping up to be one of the best games like Stardew Valley we've seen in a good while. Now, please, tell us more about this coyote.

The indie game features farming and life-sim elements, much like Stardew Valley, but also Zelda-reminiscent puzzle-filled dungeons. These come in the form of a magic tower, which you'll be making your way up "one dungeon at a time". This is also where you'll find captured villagers, who you can bring back to your own village. They'll presumably be so grateful that they'll build a grand coyote statue in the town square so you can bask in the shadow of your own magnificent, furry visage. Glorious.

Lonely Village also features gardening, social-sim elements, and - what game would be complete without one - a fishing minigame. It's estimated that if all games that feature fishing minigames existed in the same universe, then that universe's oceanic ecosystem would be due to completely collapse from overfishing... last Thursday. We may have just made that one up. Everyone loves a fishing minigame, anyway.
