This Stardew Valley mod adds a missing persons mystery to solve

Stardew Valley players add heaps of cool titbits to the chill game to keep it fresh. Now and then, though, you get a larger mod that adds something akin to new DLC. One of the most recent slices of new content to catch our eye is a mod that adds two NPCs to meet, new items, events, and a mystery for you to solve.

FellowClown's Magical Family mod brings Valerie to Pelican Town, who slowly uncovers the mystery behind a citizen's disappearance. But, unfortunately, she is soon interrupted by her mother, Dezerie, who inserts herself into Valerie's life and disrupts her goals as a spiritual element expert.

The mod also features oodles of mystery events that alter the course of the plot if you complete them all. One of them involves going to the wizard's house at a particular time after finding a secret note within the town's forest. After that, you can join Valerie in the saloon to advance the quest if you have one heart with her. If you want to know where it goes from there, you'll have to download the mod.

The best Stardew Valley mods

Stardew Valley's mod scene has been thriving on PC despite it having no official Steam Workshop support. Dedicated modders have been working to alter just about everything available in the game, from adding game-breaking cheats like god mode, to visual overhauls that turn Stardew Valley into a pixelated fairytale.

We've compiled our favourite Stardew Valley mods that celebrate the creativity of the modding scene, with a selection of mods that provide visual overhauls, gameplay changes, and yes, even some cheats.

As Stardew Valley does not have any Steam Workshop support, getting mods working requires you to change the game's internal files. Therefore, for peace of mind, we highly recommend backing up all your files - especially your save files - before downloading and installing any mods. One Lonely Outpost is like Stardew Valley in space

Alongside announcements on huge upcoming PC games like Elden Ring, Age of Empires 4, Far Cry 6, and more, there were also glimpses of plenty of indie treats at this year's E3 extravaganza. Among them was One Lonely Outpost, a space farming sim that looks like it'll have big appeal to fans of Stardew Valley and space games alike.

Designed with a pixel art style that'll look cosily familiar to fans of ConcernedApe's farming game, One Lonely Outpost takes players to a whole other world, in which they'll have to establish a colony from scratch, with just their character's "ancient space-RV", a "handy tech gauntlet", and a "handful of potato seeds" to get started with. Oh, and a robotic pet, too. Growing crops will attract other spacefarers to your little settlement, which will then grow the outpost itself.

With the game putting its own sci-fi spin on the farming sim genre, you can expect some new twists in how to you go about your crop and colony cultivation.

Snacko is for Stardew Valley fans who want to be a cat and solve mysteries

There's a new farming game on the way that'll have big appeal for Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing fans alike - especially ones equally fond of our four-legged feline friends. Developer Bluecurse Studios and publisher Armor Games have just unveiled Snacko, an upcoming farm adventure sim all about two cats that want to start a new, idyllic life on a mysterious island, which is headed to PC (and Switch) next year.

In Snacko you'll get to set up a farm and try to restore life to the land on this island, which is under the hold of a ancient curse. Similarly to Stardew Valley, the player character - a cat called Momo - has decided that the nine to five grind in the city isn't for them, hence the move, and so they spend their time farming, fishing, building, and trying to solve the mystery behind the curse instead, along with their buddy Mikan. For this, you'll need to track down the island's shrines to an ancient goddess to uncover its secrets and rebuild the island.

You'll gather resources to craft furniture, buildings, and farming materials, and cook up the crops you've laboured over in the sunshine into tasty dishes of goodness. Over time, your community will expand as other critters decide they'd like a piece of the tranquillity you've discovered.

This super handy Stardew Valley mod lets you edit the map in-game

It takes a little while to rack up enough cash and levels in Stardew Valley to make a bunch of big changes to your farm, and even then, not everything is easily or fully customisable. But, a super handy new Stardew Valley mod is here to help you edit aspects of the farming game's map from the get-go if you're keen to do some major chopping and changing.

Modder Aedenthorn's 'Map Editor' mod for Stardew Valley lets you "easily make edits to a map in-game by copying and pasting any tile to another location on the map", as they explain on its download page. The way it works is so simple but pretty powerful in the customisability it offers. You just boot up editing mode by hitting the key you've assigned (F10 by default), select an existing tile in the game's map, hit the assigned copy key, move to the 'target' tile, and paste it there.

You can easily revert changes you've made by highlighting the relevant tile and and hitting the delete key, and when you're done you simply exit the mode, and you're good to go.
