A Guide to Golem Shaping in Age of Sorcery — Chapter 3

Greetings Exiles,

The release of Age of Sorcery — Chapter 3 approaches swiftly! On March 14 you will prevent a cataclysmic ritual, brave a new boss-dungeon, experience a full journey system overhaul, new Bazaar and Battle Pass cosmetics, and a brand-new feature: Golem Shaping.

Today, we will dive into how you can craft your very own golem to follow you on your adventures. These followers are highly customizable - invaluable gatherers of resources and powerful warriors in battle.
Blood of the Giant Kings
The powerful sorcerer, Mek-Kamoses, has received a vision and has charged you with collecting a mysterious new resource for his ritual: Blood Crystals. When the ancient Giant Kings fell, it is said their blood seeped into the earth, where it remained for aeons, spreading beneath the world through ever-flowing rivers of molten rock.

After eons, the blood has cooled and hardened into crystals. At long last, it rises from the depths, charged with forces potent enough to animate the land itself. Seek out and slay these new creatures to tear the crystals from their bodies.

Mek-Kamoses is not the only one who can use them. Speak to Master Carver Huang who stands close to Mek-Kamoses at his spire (or Camp of the Castaways on Isle of Siptah) to take your first step into the mystical art of Golem Shaping.
Shape your Golem for War or for Wealth
Once you have spoken to Huang, you will be able to craft the Golem Workbench and the Guardian Assembly Station. Opening the assembly station will present you with a number of slots, each representing a part of your golem’s body.

That’s where the workbench comes in. Craft your golem parts there and then fit them into the appropriate slot in the assembly station. There are six parts to a golem: a head, a torso and a pair of legs and arms, but you don’t necessarily need all of them to animate your golem. A headless, armless golem is completely possible, although significantly less useful in battle.

The material you choose for each of these parts has a huge impact on the golem itself. The most basic golem can be crafted with stone while the most powerful golem is pure blood crystal. All golem parts, even those of stone, require some blood crystals to craft. More powerful and specialized golem parts can be found as loot throughout the game, while a few recipes can be acquired with knowledge points and crafted. Some parts are even sold by Master Carver Huang for blood crystals, although his stock is always changing.

To give your golem a weapon, it must be crafted together with the arm in the workbench, fusing them together. Depending on how you want to put your golem to use, you’ll want to equip it with the appropriate weapon type. For example, equip it with the scythe or sickle to make it efficient at gathering plants, or a maul for minerals. Some weapons are good for both gathering and fighting, such as an axe, which chops limbs and trees with equal efficiency.
Give your Golem Purpose
Your golem may lack a soul, but it can pack a punch. By default, your golem will follow and defend you, using whatever weapon you have given it. To order it to collect a certain material, place that material in its inventory, and if that material exists within a certain area, and it has the required tool equipped, your golem will autonomously begin to harvest it.

Deep customization comes into play with special body slots. Craft the Lightning Rod Guardian Head and watch as your golem harnesses the power of lightning storms to destroy your enemies. Or make the Lotus Burner Guardian Torso to provide a buff around your golem depending on the lotus you burn in it.

Your golem can also be coated in either brimstone or tar in the construction phase. Both golems will fight enemies normally but in addition, a brimstone golem will choke enemies that hit it with a gaseous cloud, while a tar golem will create pools of tar on the ground that can be ignited. Throw a fire orb at a golem surrounded by enemies, then watch it stride out of a pile of bodies.

An important aspect of Golem Shaping is that Golems cannot be healed, and damage they take over time will eventually and irreversibly break it down. Golem Shaping is a craft that you will return to again, crafting new combinations of Golems each time.

To offset this, a Golems’ hard skin can occasionally deflect attacks, completely avoiding damage, and unlocking Authority perks that provide or improve healing of other followers will further improve your Golem’s sturdiness in this regard.

As you adventure through the Exiled Lands, collect new golem parts and craft new upgraded golems. Combine the parts you find and explore a wealth of combinations. Only one golem can fight for you at a time (or two with the authority perk), but you can create an army standing by for your selection.

We hope the idea of having your own customized golem companion is as exciting to you as it is to us. Watching your own creation stomp wordlessly into a group of enemies certainly pleases the sinister sorcerer in the back of our minds.

Age of Sorcery Performance Patch (2023.02.07)

Greetings, Exiles!

We’ve been working on a addressing several performance and stability issues reported over the past weeks, as well as a bunch of other general issues. Game performance and stability should improve on consoles and older hardware as a result. We’re continuing to monitor performance and stability and we’ll continue work on making Conan Exiles run as smoothly as possible on each platform.

We have also addressed an issue regarding the Latrine placeable. However, some accounts that previously purchased this item bundle might not pick up the change automatically and need a push on our end to move things forward. If that’s the case for you please submit a ticket to our Help Center and make sure to select “in-game purchase” as the issue type.

Thank you for your support and here’s to a smashing 2023!

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING MODS

Producer's Letter: Conan Exiles 2022 Year in Review

Greetings Exiles,

2022 was another exciting and challenging year for the Conan Exiles team. The game saw quite a few changes in both free playable content, content delivery, and business model. Your feedback and engagement with the game has been incredible throughout these changes. I wanted to share a recap of how 2022 shaped up and where 2023 will be taking us.

First of all, let me introduce myself. I am Rod Harper, the new Project Director for Conan Exiles. I came to the project early in 2022 to manage the production of Conan Exiles. As a long-time player, I was excited about having the opportunity to work on it. Having worked as a game developer since the early 90s, I have seen my share of games being made and worked with many different teams. Working with this particular team has been incredibly rewarding and the sheer amount of support and passion from the community has been equally satisfying.

In September, we achieved significant new milestones for the game. We introduced Sorcery as a prominent new feature, allowing the player to learn and exercise magic for the first time. The second milestone was the introduction of the Battle Pass and Black Lotus Bazaar system. The Battle Pass allowed players to progress and earn in-game items and rewards by completing challenges. At the same time, the Bazaar gave players opportunities to buy cosmetics and in-game items using the new Crom Coins store currency.

In addition to those changes, we further expanded the in-game events, now known as encounters. We improved the building system to make it more streamlined and accessible for all platforms and controllers. The building system has seen some fantastic improvements that have made building structures more enjoyable. Overall, the community has given very positive feedback on these quality-of-life changes.

The new Sorcery feature, as well as the expansion of new encounters, were also well received. However, the new Battle Pass and Black Lotus Bazaar received mixed results; this was primarily due to concerns with the switch from paid DLC to an in-game store model. Even though the Battle Pass allowed players to earn and unlock several free items in-game by completing challenges and earning XP - the pricing of items in the Bazaar is an on-going concern among players. With that in mind, we are evaluating our pricing strategies compared to other games. One much-needed addition that will be forthcoming with the Age of Sorcery — Chapter 3 update, will be regional pricing on Steam. This will allow players to use their local currency to purchase Crom coins, making the currency exchange rates more convenient to our players worldwide.

With the accomplishments mentioned above also came some challenges. One challenge we continue to have is with system performance across the board on all platforms, especially consoles. In 2023 we are focusing more on optimization and bug fixing to improve the player experience. Our development team has already been working on performance optimizations on the consoles, and we recently released an interim performance update on the Public Beta client, which will go live before the release of Age of Sorcery — Chapter 3 that will address several issues on all platforms.

We have also started devoting more attention to the modding community with recent updates. With the release of Age of Sorcery, several last-minute fixes and changes delayed the release of the ModDevKit to modders. This was not ideal and we would have preferred more lead time for the modders to evaluate the changes. Our development team did work with several modders to help them get their mods working with the new release. However, we heard the feedback and in future releases, we will be communicating more about changes affecting mods with better advanced notice, along with releasing updated documentation.

As a community, we saw continued growth with more dedicated streamers on Twitch and YouTube and our dedicated community of content creators. We were also happy to provide some Twitch Drops with Festive Crested Lapdog, a Festive Hunt Trophy and a Snowflake Wall Paint. These were earned by viewing any Exiles streamer that had Twitch Drops enabled on their streams.

So, what can you expect in 2023?

We have so far released the first and second chapters of the Age of Sorcery in 2022 which will wrap up with the release of Age of Sorcery — Chapter 3. Following that release, we will move into the next Age with a new set of game features, a new story, and new Battle Pass and Bazaar items, in the same chapter-based release cadence, and these will continue to be free updates to the game.

2023 will be an exciting year with new challenges for the Conan Exiles team, but one we are eager to tackle. The Conan Exiles team is dedicated to this game and providing you, our community, with a fun player experience. Your feedback is always welcome and encouraged. The team looks forward to seeing what new and amazing things you do in Conan Exiles in 2023 and the years to come.
