Public beta patch notes for 26/02/2024

Attention everyone!
Here is the last batch of change before the community update.

[h2]Balancing[/h2]
[h3]Camp upgrade[/h3]
  • Shield Bearer Camps upgrade now grant +3.5% Def (instead of 2.5% before)
  • Shaman Camps upgrade have been reverted to granting +5% Health
  • Fantassin Camps upgrade have been reverted to granting +5% Def

[h2]UI[/h2]
  • Custom Lobby - it is now possible to invite and join a custom lobby with a Lobby ID (just like for co-op Conquest)
  • Alert messages are now displayed in a custom report window that let you describe the issue in more detail and send the report.
  • Report button is now also accessible from multiplayer lobbies.
  • Multiplayer Leaderboards screen now displays up to the top 8 players in each category, but no longer lets you search through all ranked players. (Following new changes and limitations on multiplayer rankings)


[h2]Bugfix[/h2]
  • Squirrel - Rumor Mongering no longer improves relations with other clans.
  • Snake - Field Rations can no longer result in positive Food consumption.
  • Scouts can no longer get stuck while scouting a territory that gets colonized by another clan.
  • Addition of a security to prevent getting stuck on loading screen.
  • In-game chat now correctly refreshes when switching from general to team chat.
  • Various bugfixes and improvements related to Lobby-finder, Lobbies, and Leaderboards.
  • When leaving a ranked lobby, the penalty warning no longer disappears after a few seconds.
  • Fixed display issue in resources UI.
  • Various text improvements.
  • Fixed Mimirsbrunn screen display problem.

  • Close button in Hunting Path window sometimes does not appear
  • Some texts translations might be missing

Balancing


Based on your feedback and our own observations, we’ve made a few adjustments to previous changes of balancing, and introduced some new changes to other clans. The clans are the Lynx, the Bear and the Raven.

[h2]Lynx[/h2]

It appeared that even with the previous changes to the Lynx we’ve made, the clan still wasn’t as free to move and clear how it wanted because of the weaknesses on Mieliki especially, so we’ve made a few new adjustments.
[h3]Start-with[/h3]
  • Mieliki recruitment cost has been reduced from 150 to 100 Kröwns.

[h3]Fame[/h3]
  • Fame 200
    Waves of the mythical lure now spawn +25% faster

[h3]Path of the hunter[/h3]
  • Caring Sibling
    Mielikki is now healed as well when she is with at least one of the Lynx.


[h2]Bear[/h2]
Based on feedback and internal tests we’ve made, we agree that Winter Festival isn’t as useful as it could have been, the delay before recruiting Kaija at the start of the game is outdated when faced with other clans like Lynx, and the Fame 500 could be more interesting.
[h3]Start-With[/h3]
  • Delay on Kaija recruitment has been removed.

[h3]Fame[/h3]
  • Fame 500
    Attack Power gain bonus has been increased from 1 to 1.5%.

[h3]Blessings[/h3]
  • Winter Festival
    Winter Festival now replaces Freya’s Blessing, as a Blessing exclusive to Bear.


[h2]Raven[/h2]
We’ve seen interesting discussions about possible tweaks on Raven, we’re not sure how impactful or needed these changes might be, but we think beta is a good environment to test them to see if they lead to more interesting options for the clan.
[h3]Start-With[/h3]
  • Lore produced when scouting has been buffed from +1.5 to +2.

[h3]Fame[/h3]
  • Fame 200
    Trade-routes with Homeland prices have been reduced from 1.5 to 1 Kröwns.

Conquest

  • When playing Co-op Conquest, each player will now have their own pool of bonuses to choose from.
  • When playing Co-op Conquest, a new visual indication has been added to highlight what Battle is selected by each player.
  • Some Conquest bonuses have been reworked to be more interesting:
    • [Building] requires no building slot > Now works not just with a specific building, but with all buildings producing a specific [Resource].
    • (Food, Happiness, Kröwns…)
      [Building] can be upgraded freely X times > Now works not just with a specific building, but with all buildings producing a specific [Resource].

UI

  • Units now have icons next to their stats highlighting the categories they belong to (Military unit, Specialized worker, Animal, Draconic unit, etc…)
  • From your Multiplayer Ranked screen, or the Leaderboard screen there is now a new tab highlighting the Cosmetic Rewards that can be obtained at the end of the season.
  • The Problem Report button is now a more discreet, and looks like this:

Bugfix

  • Snake - Stolen Lore works as intended.
  • Snake - Rapacious Exploitation colonization cost reduction now displays the correct value.
  • Owl - After Clan relic is forged, zones can be upgraded correctly without warning messages saying the maximum number of buildings has not been reached yet.
  • Lore/Faith menu - The exit button on the top right of the window is now correctly displayed.
  • Localisation - Some text issues fixed.

Known Issues

  • In Co-op Conquest, even if players have separate pools of bonuses, the bonuses are still the same for each player, they should be different ones.
  • Problem report button might sometimes not appear on main menu
  • During team game, text highlighting if you’re currently typing in team or global chat will not be refresh when you press tab
  • After the placement game, pop-up showing your current GP and league might now show up
  • You can join a teammate with an invalid GP difference
  • Joining a team game in premade will display a pop up asking you if you want to leave your premade (clicking no will let you play normally with your premade)
  • You can see unranked player in the leaderboard

Balancing
Following the first changes we’ve introduced regarding Ox and Lynx, we kept working on the part we wanted to tweak on those two clans specifically.

[h2]Ox[/h2]
Since our rework of military unit camp bonuses, Ox was weakened by the change on the Warriors, so we want to give it this strength back.

We also globally want to reward a more aggressive playstyle, making earnings like Warcraft stronger, but only rewarding fighting and no longer passive XP production.



  • Military Training
    (in addition to existing bonus)
    Each camp upgrade provides an additional +5% Attack Power to the associated unit
  • Ferocious Charge
    Has been changed to only focus on Warriors but make their weapon forge entirely free.
  • Warcraft
    Lore and Fame is now only gained on kills, but the values have been increased.
    50% of Military XP converted into Lore - instead of 30% previously.
    20% of Military XP converted into Fame - instead of 10% previously.


[h2]Lynx[/h2]
With those new changes we tried to make Lynx start a bit more comfortable, especially its early clearing, giving it more ways to remain outside its territory without being penalized for it.

We also wanted to reaffirm Mielikki’s role as master huntress, making her less related to managing the clan economy and being inside your territory, and giving her instead more reasons to be outside in the wild hunting with her lynxes.

  • Hunters have a native +10% production bonus.

    [h3]Lore[/h3]
  • Spoils of Plenty
    The lures can now be placed from the building menu and no longer require Mielikki to do it.

    (The +10% production bonus to Hunters on Lures is removed because it is now a global start-with)


    [h3]Fame[/h3]
  • Fame 200 - Mythical lure
    The mythical lure can now be placed from the building menu and no longer requires Mielikki to do it.
    Each animal kill decreases the next Feast cost by -7.5% - instead of -5% previously.


    [h3]Path of the hunter[/h3]
  • Caring Sibling
    The heal on Brundr and Kaelinn now triggers outside your territory if Mielikki is in the zone with them.

  • Sibling Rivalry
    Brundr food production now works everywhere and no longer just inside your territory.

  • The Wise One
    Mielikki lore production is no longer restricted to your territory only.

Bugfix
This includes issues fixed now as well as some hotfixes that might have happened in between patches.

  • No need to have named a custom lobby to research a game with lobby finder

Opening of the public beta branch

Hello Vikings

In order to answer the demands of the community to participate in the development of the game, we intend on having a persistent open beta to let you experience the update on your computer and tell us if it's working as intended!



[h3]The content[/h3]

The content on those updates can go from the next addition to the game to a planned balancing patch.

We do not intend on using the beta for every content we'll release, or change it after some feedback, but we know some of them deserve to be appreciated by the community to ensure the best condition when released in the live version of the game!

Content in this branch is experimental and what be change at the will of the devs and, if possible, in accordance with the overall feedback we receive from you!

[h3]Your report[/h3]

We intend on bringing a new system of bug reporting in-game, which, funnily enough, will be first experimented here!
With that button, you will be able to send us every information on a bug you got and include your save. The system will deal with sending us your seed and other info directly!

On the discord, we re-open the Open Beta channel to allow you to send some suggestion and feedback on what is being tested. If you want to participate in full time, see you there!

[h3]How to join[/h3]

To have access to the beta, here is the way to go:
  1. Right click Northgard in Steam and select properties
  2. Select Betas from the left side tabs
  3. Click on the scrolling option in "Beta Participation" and choose
    Public beta - Test the latest addition to the game!



As you figured, this beta will evolve with time, we'll take feedback on it if you have some! You can reach us easily on Reddit or on our social media like Twitter/X and Facebook!
We'll also create a space to share some feedbacks on Steam and Discord so be sure to check there if you want to become an active participant of this branch!

Hello vikings!

With this new beta you will get access to the latest changes and additions we’ve been working on regarding Ranked Multiplayer, Conquest, UI, Balancing, and more!

Join the beta, test those features and let us know what you think!
The more players join the beta, and the more tests and reports we have, the sooner we can detect and anticipate eventual problems and adjustments needed that might arise from those new changes.

[h2]Ranked Multiplayer[/h2]

Since we’ve reworked the Ranked Multiplayer with the addition of the lobby finder, we’ve seen a lot of feedback and requests for improvements and new possibilities to be added. Although we cannot do everything and not all at once, we still want to develop and grow the feature in the long term and with this update comes the first batch of improvements we wanted to add based on your feedback

  • It is now possible to queue for multiple types of games.
  • Addition of a “join” pop-up to make sure players joining a lobby are not AFK.
  • Players no longer start at 300 GPs in Stone league, but start as unranked and will get a rank and GP amount after they played 5 Ranked multiplayer games.
  • Ready Button has been added to the lobby. (Game will launch when all players are ready or when the timer ends)

[h3]Disconnect Feature [/h3]

If at the beginning of a team game, a player fails to connect, they have 5 minutes to still join.
After this time, they are considered as defeated, and the other players from the team have a few minutes to concede as well to end the game, without losing GPs. In order to quit and look for another game.

If a player disconnects during the game, they also have 5 minutes to reconnect, after that this will count as a defeat and this player loses GPs.
But the other players of the team will have a few minutes to concede without losing GPs themselves. (To avoid being punished for a team-mate leaving and forced to play a 2v3)
The opponent team will still gain GPs as this will still be counted as a victory on their side.

If they do not concede during this time, the game considers that they chose to keep playing anyway and gains/loss of GPs will behave as usual depending on win or defeat. [/expand]

[h2]Conquest[/h2]

We’ve reworked the Conquest menu to make it easier to play co-op with your friends, and we’ve buffed the general bonuses to make them more interesting. Also to avoid, especially on extreme difficulty having only some bonuses being chosen above all others.

  • Conquest Co-op flow has been reworked for more simplicity.
  • All general Conquest bonuses have been buffed to be more impacting.

[h2]UI[/h2]
Whenever we can, we keep on improving the visuals and UI of the game to make them as clear and as shiny as we can.

[h3]General[/h3]
  • At the end of a game new victory animations are now played, highlighting the type of victory achieved.
  • From the clan selection screen it is now possible to open the Lore-Tree of each clan.
  • From this screen you can collapse start-with descriptions of clans.
  • In-game you can now check clans Fame titles by hovering the fame icon and not the icon of the clan. (Start-with bonuses are still accessible by hovering the clan icon)
  • In-game windows UI have been reworked.
  • Background illustration animation improvements.
  • In-game camera has been reworked to allow for closer zoom-in.


[h3]Stoat[/h3]
We’ve received feedback about Stoat Clan duchies and levies sometimes being difficult to keep track of, so we’ve designed a new clan-specific UI to hopefully address this problem.
  • A new custom UI has been added for the Stoat Clan, highlighting the different Duchies the clan has, and allowing for direct check and trigger of Levies.

[h2]Balancing[/h2]
Ox and Lynx clan seem to be less played and less competitive in the current multiplayer environment so we’ve made some small changes to help them compete.

[h3]Lynx[/h3]
  • Trackers no longer lose some of their buffs when using non-ranged attacks.

[h3]Ox[/h3]
  • Torfin recruitment price is reduced from 250 to 150 Kröwns.


On the other hand, Rat seem quite strong at the moment, and following the previous changes we’ve made to camp upgrades bonuses, we’ve decided to also address shaman camps and to slightly decrease the health gain they provide.

[h3]Rat[/h3]
  • Shaman Camps upgrade now gives +2.5% Health instead of +5%.


We’ve seen feedback on passive heal abilities being very strong on big armies as they always heal the same value no matter the warband size. We agree with this sentiment and have made some adjustments to correct this:

[h3]Eagle[/h3]
  • Boneyard heal effect is now divided among the wounded units in the zone. (With a minimum and maximum heal value per unit)
  • If the zone is in combat the heal is no longer active.


[h3]Snake[/h3]
  • Rapacious Exploitation heal effect on scorched-earth zones is now divided among the wounded units in the zone. (With a minimum and maximum heal value per unit)
  • If the zone is in combat the heal is no longer active.


[h3]Global[/h3]
  • Mjolnir (Relic) damages have been multiplied by x2. (And yes, it really does deal damages)

All those changes, additions, balancing and more are open to adjustments based on players feedback and our own observations during the beta period. In addition, changes and balancing are still in the work and will be added during the beta.

All stats made in the beta doesn't impact your actual stats, don't worry about your losing streak in the beta ranked 3v3!
