Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition News

Total War: MEDIEVAL II comes to mobile devices

MEDIEVAL II brings Total War’s compelling mix of massive real-time battles and intricate turn-based strategy to Android and iOS on April 7th.

Set across three continents during the turbulent Middle Ages, spectacular conflicts and scheming rivals line the path to power as the great kingdoms of the medieval world vie for supremacy. Be it through diplomacy or conquest, trade or subterfuge, you must secure the resources and loyalty required to rule an empire from the shores of Western Europe to the sands of Arabia.

The best Medieval 2: Total War mods

Medieval II: Total War has a surprisingly active and vibrant mod scene for a game its age. Highly regarded among old-school Total War fans, the engine it's built on has enabled many wonderful creations from simple vanilla overhauls, to complete setting changes, and more. Being a game set during medieval Europe, you can imagine the kinds of mods available now. From Westeros to Warhammer, Lord of the Rings to Three Kingdoms China, there's something for everyone, and we've curated a list of some of the more popular picks below.

Do note that any mod that uses a third-party IP probably isn't endorsed by that IP's owner, and even Creative Assembly frowns upon these kinds of mods for the newer Total War games where the studio has more control. As such, we won't be providing download links for them, but if you go to sources like ModDB it won't be hard to find them if you are interested in checking them out.

Also note that all mods below, unless stated otherwise, require the Kingdoms expansion, and you're probably best updating to the 1.5 patch as well.

Medieval 2: Total War cheats and console commands

So, you want some Medieval 2: Total War cheats? Using console commands to get a leg up in videogames is a time honoured tradition, although it seems to be more commonly associated with strategy games given their nature. Not every game has them (Civ 6, for example, is oddly absent of cheat codes), but plenty others do.

Medieval 2: Total War is still pretty popular, even after all this time, and being an older Total War game it still retains that more hardcore sensibility that can make it extremely tough at times. But never fear - cheat codes are here! Whether you need to give yourself more money, or give one of your characters a specific trait, there's plenty of options to make your game easier.

We've put together this guide to cheats and console commands for the game, to help give you a leg up. A special shoutout to Steam user Sir_Calcium1066, who put together a more comprehensive guide on the subject. We haven't included anything that involves editing game files, as that's more akin to modding than using a traditional 'cheat'.

A Witcher mod is in the works for Medieval 2: Total War

The Witcher Season 2 is all anyone's talking about right now, but if you can't wait for Henry Cavill's Geralt to toss a coin back into your life, then this mod for Medieval II: Total War might help you pass the time. This total conversion is unsurprisingly titled Witcher: Total War, and is currently available to download via ModDB as Medieval II was released well before Steam Workshop integration was a thing.

It's been going since December 2019, and so far they've only managed to work some Nilfgaard units into the game so far. The long-term goal is to have 30 playable factions, but in the most recent dev update the mod owners admit they will probably start with smaller campaigns with fewer factions, so they can get something out and into the hands of fans.

What about the White Wolf himself? Well apparently that's still up for debate. Unlike newer Total War games, Medieval II never had hero units, and the creators are not sure whether to include him or not yet.
