The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game - Definitive Edition News

Hail And Well Met!

Last week we gave a sneak peek of Rossiel's upcoming cards, while this week we are discussing tips for new players, focusing on rewards and how to obtain them.

There are a number of ways of earning new cards and cosmetics in The Lord of the Rings™: Adventure Card Game. If you don't own our game, it's important to understand that this is not a free to play game. You get a base level of cards with the Core Set, and can then earn new cards just by playing the game.


The first method to earn new cards is to use Fellowship. This is earned simply by completing quests. You gain 1,000 Fellowship for completing a quest (and a smaller amount if you cannot complete the quest).

You also earn Fellowship by completing in-quest challenges. Want to know what challenges you need to complete in a quest? You can do this by clicking on the Rewards tab in the Play menu. Some challenges are the same between different quests, while other challenges are unique to each quest. You will gain a total of 200 Fellowship for each challenge you complete per quest for a maximum of 1,000 additional Fellowship.

You earn a 500 Fellowship Bonus for completing a quest in the Adventure Play Style.
You earn a 1000 Fellowship Bonus for completing a quest in the Challenge Play Style.

You can spend Fellowship on the following:

• Unlocking New Cards for your Decks
  
• Unlocking Alternate Art for your Hero Cards
  
• Unlocking Cosmetic Items from the Vault like Avatars, Player Name Tags, and Emotes
  

We've discussed how to unlock these items in previous news stories.

However, besides Fellowship, how else can you earn rewards? We covered a few methods in the previous news above, but let's go into more detail on specifics.

Did you know that you earn a 500 Fellowship Award the first time you complete a quest with a hero? With 12 current heroes, that means you can earn 6000 Fellowship just by completing any individual quest with each Hero. To see what heroes you've completed in any given quest, just click on the Hall of Heroes Coin on the Rewards Tab.

Each time you complete a quest, you gain a reward, but the first three times you gain a special bonus beyond Fellowship.

The first time you complete a quest, you will earn a special card as a reward for its completion. You earn two of this card in your vault, fully unlocked for you to use. The exact card for each quest is outlined when you click on the First coin in the Rewards Tab.

The second time you complete the same quest, you will earn a special Player Avatar for you to use in both Single and Multi Player sessions. The avatar you earn is typically based on a character that appears in the quest and once earned, will appear in the Vault menu, fully unlocked.

The third time you complete the same quest, you will earn a special Trophy Avatar that depicts one of the enemies you encountered during the quest that you may use as your Avatar in both Single and Multi Player sessions. Just like for Player Avatars, once earned, the Trophy will appear in the Vault menu, fully unlocked.

There's one other way to earn a new card that you might not know about. When you go to the Hero Detail screen in the Deck menu, you can change your Hero's selected art, but you'll notice a coin above the card on the left marked Hero Reward.

This is the Hero Reward Card, which you earn by completing the Hero challenge. Every Hero has a unique challenge to earn their special Hero card. Simply click the coin to learn what each Hero's Reward card challenge is.

The Lord of the Rings™: Adventure Card Game Actor nominated for voice acting award!

James Smillie is the voice actor who you may recognize as the 'evil voice' for narrative slides in The Lord of the Rings™: Adventure Card Game. He's been nominated for Best Character Performance in the VOX awards, a UK based award for professional voice actors.

Cards of the Silvan Watcher

Today we will cover the cards that make up Rossiel's hero pack- The Silvan Watcher. Rossiel is a Lore Sphere hero with a set of cards matching her status as an Elf from Lothlórien. As a reminder, all cards are subject to change before delivery subject to playtest and licensor approval.

Let's start with Rossiel's hero card, which we've updated since our sneak peek earlier this summer:


Rossiel is a 9 Threat Lore Hero with the Silvan Trait. Her stats are:
Attack: 2
Willpower: 2
Health: 9
Rossiel's Power allows her to recover a non-unique Hero and also to grant Surge to your next ally played this round.


Now, let's look at the Watcher's tactics card...


This is a 3 cost Tactics Ally with the following stats:
Attack: 1
Willpower: 1
Heath: 4
The Sharpshooter is a Silvan trait card with Ranged who gets to make an attack on an enemy that is attacked by any other Silvan card.


This is a 1 cost, 2nd level Lore Preparation card that deals one damage to all enemies once an enemy defeated. If this results in another enemy being defeated, another damage is dealt, and so forth until either every enemy is defeated or no enemies are defeated.


This is a 1 cost Leadership Ally with the following stats:
Attack: 2
Willpower: 0
Health: 3
On arrival, this Silvan card gains Guard for free during the first round of play (though you will need to activate defense in subsequent rounds).


This 2 cost Spirit Event grants a single non-unique Ally +2 Attack and +2 Willpower, but at the cost of that card gaining fleeting. This means you get a major stat boost, but that character goes away during the end phase.


This completes the list of cards available in Rossiel's Hero Pack. We hope you enjoy these new cards in play when they are released.

New to the game? If so, we highly recommend that you play the Tutorial Campaign. If you are an experienced gamer, or are coming to us with a lot of specific card game experience, you're probably thinking, 'How hard can this be?", or you just hate tutorials and don't feel like you need the hand holding. We get it. That's why we broke the Tutorial down into separate quests that teach you the basic concepts and then let you put them into practice as you wish. We wrap that up with an original narrative story that nicely leads right into the first campaign.

If you are used to lots of other card games, an important thing to note is that this is a Player Vs. Environment/Experience game, NOT a Player vs. Player game. That makes the experience very different than the typical digital card game and we have a very different complexity curve as a result. There are a lot of different options and nuances to the game that if you don't understand will hamper your ability to succeed against the forces of Sauron.

Where can you find the tutorial? Just click on the green campaign icon on the Single Player game map.



To select an individual Tutorial Quest (or any Quest), just click on the Quest icon to the right in the Campaign Information Screen. The first tutorial covers the basics of how to play the game, picking up where the basic prelude tutorial you played when you first started the game left off.



Tutorial Quest 2 covers more advanced concept for the game, laying on top of the skills you learned in Quest 1. Here we introduce Fate and Threat, which are key elements to the game and absolutely vital to your success or failure.



Tutorial Quest 3 covers the most nuanced aspects of the game, but veteran players will tell you that mastering these skills are your keys to victory. We go over attachments, specific keywords and hand size limits.



Tutorial Quest 4 covers how to make your own decks and what cards go into them.



Finally, we wrap it up with a standard quest in Tutorial Quest 5 for you to try out your new deck with, or to come back at any time. This Quest wraps up the narrative and directly leads into the first full campaign The Shadow's Reach.
