AUTUMN 2023: New Maps, New Modes



Greeting, Agents, and welcome to Intruder’s Autumn 2023 Update. As the seasons change, the weather turns, and the days get shorter, it felt right to bring the shifting mood to Intruder.

Let’s talk about some striking updates to Oceanside and Cliffside, the return of a beloved game mode, notable fixes, and more – all available today.

[h2]New Oceanside Maps & Updates[/h2]
Oceanside has received a substantial update and fixes, including several brand-new map variants. There are now four Oceanside maps for your extracting enjoyment:
    Oceanside Day: The sun is scorching-hot on a perfect beach day, giving Oceanside a brighter vibe and much higher visibility that leaves intruders and guards alike exposed to the light.

    Oceanside Sunset: The classic Oceanside mood you know and love, with some minor updates to lighting and layout to keep things feeling fresh.

    Oceanside Night: The seaside manor is shrouded in shadow, making the exterior more dangerous than ever as intruders creep through the moonlight.

    Oceanside Storm: A storm rages on the shrouded coast, bringing the first-ever weather event to an official Intruder map. Use the thunder to mask your shots, create confusion in the rain, and extract into the darkness.

Across all Oceanside variants, you’ll notice a litany of fixes and additions. New props and lighting open up new tactical avenues across the map. Additionally, the guards have moved the keypad note to the upstairs living room, where it’s slightly less exposed to balloons and binoculars (but not entirely). We can’t wait to see how your new strategies shift the meta and clash with or complement old-reliable tactics. With performance enhancements and fixes to exploits and other issues, Oceanside plays better than ever in all its forms.

Separately, you can now change the time of day on official maps using a brand-new cheat command. Use "/daytimeindex 0" to instantly adjust the map variant -- just substitute the 0 for 1, 2, etc. to make the appropriate change to a different time of day.

Now, let's talk Cliffside.


[h3]New Cliffside Maps & Raid Mode[/h3]
Expanding on our recent release of the Cliffside remake, we have a series of new map variants – as well as the return of a much-anticipated game mode. In addition to the current daytime Cliffside map, you can play all of these new Cliffsides starting today:
    Cliffside Raid: An alternative game type to the default Hack mode, Cliffside Raid finally returns. You’ll find the briefcases in new locations, but the objective remains the same: Get in, get the package, and get out. With the map remake’s updated layout, there are even more tactical opportunities for cautious (or maniacal) extractions.

    Cliffside Sunset: A moody addition to the rotation of Cliffside maps, this cloudy sunset basks Facility 01 in a soft and warm glow. The perfect scenic vista when a rig sends you soaring downward to certain doom.

    Cliffside Night: Watch your step on the rocky outcropping underneath the facility – the cover of night makes exterior actions on Cliffside all the more risky (and rewarding) for both teams.

Once again, use "/daytimeindex 0" to instantly adjust the time of day on Cliffside -- just substitute the 0 for 1, 2, etc. to swap time of day.

[h3]Looking Ahead: Mountainside 2.0[/h3]
Separate from today’s update, we’re excited to announce that development has begun on a ground-up remake of Mountainside!

Much like the Oceanside and Cliffside updates, this is a substantial but faithful reimagination of the largest official Intruder map. During a developer stream on the official Superboss Games Discord, we showed a very early work-in-progress first look at the progress so far. [h3]DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?[/h3]The old Cliffside used to have a hidden Hammerhead shotgun. Unrelated, the new Cliffside does, too, apparently. Some agents claim to have seen someone find it, pick it up, and use it. These rumors remain unconfirmed.

Cliffside 2.0 Update and Banana Fix

That dastardly banana has been fixed so you can disarm them again. Also some Cliffside 2.0 updates and fixes based on the playing so far.



[h2]Cliffside 2.0 Updates[/h2]

  • Removed the ability to "use" the Comm Room screens.
  • Louder burn damage sound effect
  • Potentially fixed the Maintenance Room door not locking.
  • Removed backfaces on wall painting for better spectate.
  • Blocked the top of the Comm Room screens.
  • Blocked server rack.
  • Blocked the inside of the Armory Locker.
  • Fixed some lighting errors.
  • Fixed being able to jump onto the bar of the windowless push bar doors.
  • Added nudge zone near ledge to move people stuck between rocks.
  • Reduced map file size.

Major Update: Cliffside 2.0 Revealed

Intruder's Summer 2023 update is a big one! Today, we are unveiling and releasing a ground-up remake of Cliffside. The map features a complete visual overhaul, refreshed map layout, new gameplay elements, and more.

But that’s not all. In addition to several other new gameplay updates and fixes, Intruder is 50% off from now until July 13! And for the duration of the Steam Summer Sale, everyone will receive a 200% XP boost.

[h2]Cliffside 2.0[/h2]
Cliffside has been remade from scratch, and it looks and plays better than ever. The spirit of this fan-favorite multiplayer map remains intact, while offering a total art and lighting rework, reimagined layout, and several new systemic opportunities.



You’ll notice entirely new areas in Cliffside 2.0, in addition to reworked rooms, varied ventilation routes, and a redistribution of weapon and item pick-ups. Adapt your tactics accordingly -- and don’t forget to check out the new Objectives screen!



Cliffside 2.0 is a Hack objective map (for now), and the original Cliffside map will remain available to play when nostalgia strikes.

[h3]What's New in Cliffside[/h3]

Complete Visual Overhaul: New art and lighting brings the Cliffside offices to life in gorgeous new ways. Keep an eye out for new hiding places, gadgets, and environmental interactions!



New Areas, New Tactics: In addition to a ground-up layout rework, Cliffside 2.0 features entirely new rooms, some with restricted access depending which team you're playing. Keep an eye out for new weapon pick-ups and expanded ventilation routes to keep the enemy guessing.

More Mechanics & Interactions: Explore and experiment to uncover new ways to change the flow of every match. Your Hack objectives may affect access to new areas. Fire extinguishers burst and provide cover after you've blown yours. Restricted areas can be unrestricted.

[h3]New & Updated Features[/h3]
We’ve been hard at work on several other features and fixes as well. In addition to an improved Objectives screen and performance optimization, this update includes the following updates:
  • CS Gas duration: Following our CS Gas system update in Spring 2023, we’ve reduced the effective duration of Gas Grenades from 20 seconds to 10 seconds
  • Improved ladder interactions: Leaning outside the ladder volume won’t knock you off the ladder anymore, and you can wield weapons while grounded and touching ladders (start climbing and they'll be put away)
  • Improved Steam Inventory categories: Your Intruder items now have visible class tags

[h3]Mapmaker Updates[/h3]
New features coming soon to the Intruder Mapmaker include...
  • Nudge Zones, which allow you to influence a player's movement and position using a volume.
  • Damage Zones, which give mapmakers the tools to deal damage-over-time in a volume; you can tune the damage interval, as well as whether it affects health, energy, balance, or all three
  • Several new scripts work in the IntruderMM now, including the clock, chair, and don’t-render-if-behind scripts
  • Objects tagged with IgnoreBullet will no longer block disarm raycasts
  • You can include more images on your Objectives screen

[h3]DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?[/h3]The average dry chemical fire extinguisher is typically pressurized to around 190 PSI, but has absolutely zero durability against bullets, which typically travel more than 1000 feet per second.

Update 2663: Upgrading Existing Systems


Greetings Agents, and welcome to Update 2663! We've taken some time and looked at player feedback to see what some pain points were for agents, and we have some upgrades to our underlying systems that should make the game more fluid and fun for everyone.

[h3]CS Gas[/h3]

With our new CS Gas system in place, agents were quick to point out how some objects were blocking gas when they shouldn't have. We've done a pass on official maps and tweaked some details in order to make sure that small or permeable objects like vents, rails, lockers, etc. don't block gas anymore.

Small objects in rooms like tables and chairs will also not block gas.



The best strategy then is to throw your CS grenades into the middle of the room you are trying to clear.

For Map Makers, you can use the GasCollisionSettings.cs component to set whether gas should pass through certain objects or not. Most are found automatically however!

[h3]Medkit Usage[/h3]

Agents have been liking the new medkits, and we've seen multiple games won due to medkit usage! It's polite to thank your medic, but we made a faux pas by not thanking them on our end with XP points. Going forward The medic will receive 30 XP for healing a wounded player, while the wounded player gets 20 XP for being a good patient.


[h3]Explosive Anti-Launch measures[/h3]

We've seen explosives launch agents to all sorts of weird places they shouldn't be, and unfortunately our preventative measures have been to harsh in some cases while being too lenient in others. We've toned down the instant-kill function to prevent launches so you should be killed by standard rigs much less frequently. In order to combat this, we have added a new system called Anti-Launch Zones which will kill agents who launch themselves through them with explosives. This system is also available to mapmakers which should allow them to prevent agents from launching to higher floors without needing to add dedicated Death Zones to their maps.

This will be available in the new Map Maker package going up today.

[h3]Bloon Gun for Mapmakers[/h3]

The infamous Bloon Gun gadget is now available for mapmakers to add to their custom maps. Whether you plan on making a map tailored to the gadget, or enjoy the chaos it causes, you can make death rain from above once again!



[h3]Intruder Competitive league[/h3]

With the returning champions, HOLY, being knocked out in the playoffs a familiar face took the trophy home during ICL Season 6. ISEC took home the victory by defeating BOIS in the championship match with DD not far behind in 3rd place. Rewards will be going out to all the teams, but there is a special reward for all ISEC members!

The Panther - ISEC will be available as an Ultra-Rare unlock in game. Featuring a classic Khokhloma design with gold inlay featuring the ISEC logo, this skin took some extra time, love and care to put together and we hope it was worth the wait!

[h3]Bugfixes[/h3]

A few minor updates and bugfixes also came out in this update, so take a look and see if you noticed them!
  • Player Level and XP being inconsistent across the game and the website was addressed and now both are synced correctly.
  • Mountainside light blob near East Bridge removed.
  • Add toggle to only show selected maps in create lobby menu.
  • Limit max fps during intro screen.
  • Cliffside Deathzones added to some glitch spots.
  • Oceanside ceiling and vent fixes

Players can only be healed once per round, so maybe hold off on healing that teammate who has 95 HP... or heal them anyways. I'm not the medic, you are!

Alas, Bloon Gun was too powerful. Happy April Fool's day everyone! But he will be added to the Intruder Map Maker in the near future.

The rest of changes are still in game. Also fixed normal binoculars not sending photos.
