Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition News

Dying Light 2 is dead, but Dying Light 2: Stay Human is out this December

It's official: Dying Light 2 is cancelled. Well, okay, not really - the game is reemerging, zombie-style, after disappearing for a bit with a sort of new title. Developer Techland has confirmed that Dying Light 2: Stay Human is due to launch this year. (Never mind the bit where they accidentally leaked their own announcement a few hours early through Twitch ads. Oops!)

Dying Light 2: Stay Human officially launches on December 7, 2021 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, Xbox One and yes, PC. If you've missed out on the plot details so far, you'll be playing as Aiden Caldwell in a story set 20 years after the events of the original game. The devs say you'll be able to pick up the story here no problem, even if you haven't played the original game.

The Dying Light 2 release date has slipped away before, but hopefully now we've got a date we can count on. The game is still looking impressive in the new gameplay footage, which offers a broad overview of the story, setting, factions, and zombies you'll be dealing with.

May 27, 2021 The Dying Light 2 reveal event is about to begin.

Dying Light 2 developer Techland stayed pretty quiet over the past year about its upcoming zombie game, but lately the Polish developer has been rumbling. More information on Dying Light 2 is on the way, and perhaps the pre-launch hype floodgates are preparing to open. Whatever the case, we'll be seeing something new about Dying Light 2 this week, in a Twitch stream scheduled to begin shortly.

Techland hasn't said exactly what it plans to show off in the livestream, which is set for 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. BST on the official Techland Twitch channel. It seems fair to expect a new peek at some gameplay footage, or potentially a new trailer. We also may get a new Dying Light 2 release date, or failing that, at least a release window.

Dying Light 2 had been slated for launch last spring, but was indefinitely delayed without much in the way of explanation beyond the studio needing more time "to fulfill our vision" for the follow-up to its popular open-world zombie parkour adventure.

Dying Light 2 has no guns, and it has a shotgun

One of the big inflection points in zombie game Dying Light is when you first lay hands on a firearm. Up until that point, you had been dealing the Harran's infestation of zombies with whatever melee weapons you could cobble together - cricket bats, pipes, and creatively electrified combinations of junk that could remove zombie limbs while cauterizing the wounds. Guns changed the game - and they won't be part of Dying Light 2. However, there is a shotgun in Dying Light 2.

Sure, that sounds a bit contradictory: you can't have a game with "no guns" if there's a shotgun, that's just how reality works, right? Well, it's just a matter of how you're counting firearms versus other weapons. In Dying Light 2, which is set some years after the events of the first co-op game, a world war has led to the destruction of most weapons - meaning you won't be able to find mass-produced guns lying around the city the way you eventually did in the original Dying Light.

You will, however, still be able to craft weapons - and these craftable arms include several ranged options. With the right components, you'll even be able to build a rudimentary shotgun - which technically breaks the "no guns" rule, but it should feel pretty natural in the post apocalyptic setting of Dying Light 2.
