There is still plenty of time to play, so it’s not too late to make a run at the top!

We’ll see you back here tomorrow morning for the next update in the standings!

Breakthrough - The KARDS winter expansion is live!
Breakthrough - The KARDS winter expansion is live!
Breakthrough, our third massive expansion for KARDS, introduces a wealth of fundamentally new strategic possibilities and tactical options to KARDS, all inspired by real-world WW2 history.

Explore never-seen-before research mechanics motivated by actual WW2 research projects to turn the tide of battle in your favor.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Additional new features, like the Pincer attack ability or the ability to steal enemy units, significantly expand the array of tactical options available and bring the game experience to a new level.

Breakthrough arrives with a total of 81 new cards, many of them with new effects introduced for the first time in this expansion, reinforcing players with thrilling new tools to challenge their opponents and dominate the battlefield with tactical skills and strategic thinking.

Breakthrough was published on December 9th and is an automatic update for all KARDS players.

A new era for KARDS

With the arrival of Breakthrough on December 9, KARDS entered a completely new era.

These are the highlights of Breakthrough:
81 new unique cards in total
Research cards now available to unleash devastation
Pincer as a new core ability
New mechanics to control enemy units
New mechanics to select cards in hand for special improvements
Numerous bug fixes and smaller improvements

Further Breakthrough info:

To further spotlight these massive changes, together with the best KARDS players we have prepared a special Breakthrough walkthrough video for you:

[previewyoutube]Breakthrough walkthrough video[/previewyoutube]
Research enters KARDS
Breakthrough introduces Research as a new feature and gameplay option.

Inspired by historical projects of strategic impact, you can now use Research to either support your current strategy or to create a strong complement, depending on which route you take.

Each Research phase leaves you with the choice: reap the benefit you have gained so far, or further invest in the hope of reaching a true research breakthrough later on and before it is too late.

Will you stay the course for the ultimate rewards like the Manhattan Project or try to capitalize on early returns? Can you survive long enough?
New Pincer ability
In military terms, a pincer movement is a coordinated and simultaneous attack of separate forces to encircle the enemy and then simultaneously attack them on both flanks or from opposing directions. The maneuver relies on both groups encircling the enemy to succeed in deploying their devastating blow. The pincer movement was an integral part of the German Blitzkrieg and was often used to shocking effect during World War II.

The KARDS Pincer ability is inspired by this real-world tactic and recreates this attack in an abstract yet realistic way on the battlefield.

When a Pincer unit enters the battlefield, you can choose another friendly unit as a counterpart of the Pincer. This effect is the abstraction of two units working together to pincer the opponent. Only while both units are on the battlefield will they both get the Pincer benefit.

For example: A Pincer: +2 Attack would give the Pincer unit +2 attack and the other selected unit +2 attack - as long as they both are on the battlefield. If either unit is removed from the battlefield, the other remaining unit automatically loses the +2 Pincer attack bonus.
Control enemy units
On the battlefield, chaos can reign, and friendly fire can become as deadly as enemy attacks. Switching sides during WWII was also not uncommon, even for nations. At the start of WWII Romania, Bulgaria and Italy were allied with the Axis powers, but the war’s developments in later years would influence these countries decisions to switch their allegiance to the Allies.

An example of take control is CONFUSION, where you can take control of an enemy unit, with cost of 3 or less, until end of turn. This effect is the abstraction of a unit becoming confused during battle and therefore not acting as they should.

Another example is MINORITY RECRUITS, where you can take full control of an enemy unit. This effect is the abstraction of turning to the enemy.

Welcome to Breakthrough!

Introducing Officer Packs
We are excited to expand KARDS with a new, additional type of card pack starting this Friday, November 13th: Officer Packs!
The new Officer Packs will contain more cards, a much higher drop rate of rare cards in each pack as well as a guarantee to get rarer cards.

Based on your feedback and our own research, these packs are designed to help you build your collection of Special and Elite cards faster even after you have collected most of the base cards of each set - something that previously could be quite time consuming. We believe that these new packs, in addition to the already existing pack types, will give you a much better experience and allow you to choose the best way to build up your collection.

Officer Packs will be available in the KARDS in-game store for real money and in-game gold (more about that down below). The current Packs will, of course, continue to be available in the store as they always have been.
Officer Packs: Bigger, better, more oomph!
The Officer Packs are designed to expand on your collection and are likelier to contain rarer cards for your collection. The contents of each Officer Pack:
  • 7 Cards from a set
  • Of these 7 cards, 1 Special Card or better from that set
  • Of these 7 cards, 2 Limited Cards or better from that set

As you can see, there are more cards in the new Officer Packs, 7 instead of the 5. In addition, from the cards you draw, you will receive at least one guaranteed special card (or better) plus 2 limited cards (or better).

In addition to the guarantees mentioned, the drop rate for rarer cards has also doubled, creating a higher chance for more than 3 cards of limited rarity or better to appear in a single pack.
Card draw chances: The details
We want to give you the best overview and information about the new Officer Packs so that you can make the best choice to either build up your collection with the current Standard Packs or to expand it with the new Officer Packs. The choice is yours!
Therefore we offer full transparency of the chances to draw rare cards.
First of all, remember that the Officer Packs include two guarantees:
  1. Each Officer pack contains at least 1 card that is of special rarity or better.
  2. Each Officer pack contains at least 2 cards of limited rarity or better.

The base distribution for the packs can be seen below, where each card has a 60% chance of being a standard card, 29% of being a limited card, 8% of being a special card and 3% of being an elite card.

If you have not drawn a limited (or rarer) card after the first four cards, one of the guarantees comes into play: The remaining 3 cards in the pack are then at least of limited rarity. The chance to get a limited card is 89%, a special card 8% and an elite card 3%.

If after 6 cards you have not drawn any special (or rarer) cards, the other guarantee is activated: The last card is then guaranteed to be a special card (70% chance) or an elite card (30% chance).

These increased chances of the rare cards together with the guarantee of a special or a better card make it four times more likely of getting an Elite card in an Officer pack compared to the standard pack.
Bigger or cheaper: The choice is yours!
Officer Packs are bigger and contain better cards than the current Packs. This considerable advantage is reflected by a higher price tag on the Officer Packs.

The new packs will be available for $4.45 or 30 Gold each. Bundles and special offers will be available too where you can save quite a bit.

We believe that this gives you a fair option to choose between building up your collection with Standard Packs in the beginning, and then, when you have a sizable enough collection, continuing at a slightly slower rate but with more impact by switching over to Officer Packs.

The new packs will be available for all card sets and arrive on 13th of November.

Please let us know what you think, we welcome all of your feedback either in the comments below or on our KARDS Discord chat server.
