500 Items!!

At long last and after 7 years the game finally has its 500th item!
Aside from this occasion I've made some other fixes and etc. here and there, so read on!

-----

ADDITIONS

  • 15 new items, making for an even 500: Unlimited Mask, Dorkoski Blade, Windy's Beard, Gasil's Coin, Padlock, Tower Shirt, 20 Point Shield, Tarantula Hat, Steel Shovel, Satan's Horn, Sword of Doom, Merchant Statue, Turducken, Soul of Duio, and Del Duio's Mace.

  • Four of these items are in honor of ETL players and have purple name texts:

    Unlimited Mask (HEAD)
    MDEF +3
All your basic battle actions require no stamina to use.

    Dorkoski Blade (RIGHT HAND)
    ATK +13
    MAG +5
    Battle Actions: Slash, Flames, Ice
    Wizards can also equip this
Use Effect: Class Change to Wizard

    Windy's Beard (HEAD)
    DEF +1
Zap Spell Damage reduced by 15 points
    Use Effect: Lightning Resistance

    Gasil's Coin (MISC / RUNE)
    Gold Found +350%
Use Effect: Glitterdust (Super long duration)

  • New Mechanic: Locking Doors with the Padlock!

You can use the new padlock items while standing on a door to close and lock it up. By doing this you will prevent any monster from entering, and that includes thief-types like Muggers and the Ninja boss.

  • Padlocks were added as possible Cultist Den stock.

  • New Mechanic: Summoning the Insane Merchant using the Merchant Statue!

The Merchant Statue is a new item which, when used, will summon the Insane Merchant at the drop of a hat- And let you purchase items on the fly right then!

If you haven't seen her behind one of the Iron Door events yet, the Insane Merchant is.. well, insane! She cares little for your class or well-being, so even those who are Cultists, plagued or blacklisted can summon her with the staute.

  • Steel Shovels act like normal shovels however they are unaffected by the icy ground of an Icebox Floor event. If you try to use one on Floor 50 they'll still break, however.

  • The Soul of Duio is a powerful cleric-only item that grants double XTP earned for every boss enemy killed. This is the only item in the game that will ever grant bonus XTP.

  • A turducken is a chicken shoved into a duck's ass, which is then shoved into a turkey's ass. I can't make this stuff up, that's what it is! ETL's version of this item restores all your HP and STM, and gives you +1 max on top of that. Your hunger will completely go away as well.

  • The 20 Point Shield has a DEF of 4 and an incredible +20% chance to block.

  • The Tarantula Hat is a cursed item that allows you to walk through spider webs without getting stuck, and grants a poisonous attack whenever you hit something in battle.

  • Like the old Helm of Doom, the matching Sword of Doom is cursed and probably shouldn't be USEd when inspected. That being said it's incredibly powerful and might hold a surprise or two.

  • The Tower Shirt may seem terrible at first, with it's -5 max HP / STM.. And being cursed.. However it has an amazing ability to regenerate both HP and STM quickly, including during Icebox Floor Events that normally don't allow for normal STM recovery.

  • Satan's Horn is an evil yet powerful stabbing weapon that even Cultists can use. Just holding this cursed weapon reduces any Flames spell damage by a whopping 10 points too!

  • Del Duio's Mace is obviously a terrible and weak weapon, so I wouldn't try to find it. Nope, no sir.

CHANGES

It's an old picture of Bob, but Bob just the same.

  • Bob now has Gasil's Coin as one of his stealable items.
  • Druid Kings now have the Dorkoski Blade as one of their stealable items.
  • Widows now have Tarantula Hats as one of their stealable items.
  • The section in the tutorial that talks about items now displays the correct number of 500.
  • The 25th and final page of the Items Found Log now displays the last 25 of the game's 500 items.
  • I removed the 'Like It? Review It!" splash page, but the sentiment still stands.

The full item listing has also been updated to accomodate the new stuff:

The Official Spreadsheet of Equin: The Lantern's items
http://www.dxfgames.com/ETL_ITEMLIST2018.xlsx

FIXES

  • The correct sprite now shows when you're a Cultist running the Red Shirt challenge. How I missed this before, I have no idea.

  • The chances of getting a stolen item back from the enemy that took it from you have now been correctly fixed. Before it was almost impossible to NOT get the item back, regardless of what percentage it said. The 90% / 60% / 30% chances now apply.

And well, that's it!

I'm hoping to get at least 50 reviews for this game eventually, which would push it into the next bracket of ye olde Steam algorithm and make Equin: The Lantern more visible to players who like Roguelikes and etc. Otherwise this fine piece o' work gets dumped into the masses of obscurity with the likes of "Grass SImulator 3000" and "My Life as a Teenage Card Farmer".

ETL has been my baby for a very long time, and will continue to be looked after as long as it needs me. That being said, I'm going to most likely take a few steps back from it so I may continue with my next thing- whatever that may end up being.

I thank you all again for your dedication and loyalty, and have a good one!

Beware the Thief!

It's a twist I didn't see coming however I feel this will spruce things up a bit.

ADDITIONS

  • New mechanic: Thief-class enemies can now open closed doors! Remember how you could close doors to give yourself a breather from monsters? Well muggers, master thieves, and the ninja boss can now open doors up and make your life less safe. Hooray!

It's important to note that these guys can not open LOCKED doors, just regular CLOSED ones. What am I, a monster??

  • New page about this in the tutorial section.

CHANGES

None this time.

FIXES

  • Runes now have no level 7 restriction on them. I thought
I fixed this last time but somehow didn't. Whoops!

There were a couple of points next to walls where a door should've been able to be constructed via a Door Kit but didn't work. They do now!

--

That's it for now. I have more things planned but due to the rune level restriction thing not working I decided to push half of this through early.

See you soon!

Happy New Year!

Hey everybody, have a happy new year!

Don't forget that today's ETL daily bonus is "New Year's Luck".

Every new game started has a big boost in odds to get rare stuff from chests all day. Isn't that great?!

Also: I'm almost done with a new guide, which could be out as soon as tonight. Stay tuned!
