2 Million Units Sold!
Hello Miners,
Once in a while, it's good to look back and see what you have accomplished. When we founded Ghost Ship Games four and a half years ago, we knew we would bring Deep Rock Galactic to life, and we decided that open development and co-op first would be our guiding principles. But - we never anticipated the fantastic community that would spring up around the game, or the fact that we'd strike gold like we have and end up with a bonafide success on our hands.

Before we launched into Early Access, we reached an internal agreement that 200.000 units sold during the game's lifetime would be suitable, and would allow us to continue and do a new game. But now we just crossed 2 MILLION units sold, and the game is performing stronger than ever - not only in sales, but also in the strength of the community. When reading a random thread on gaming and suddenly one user comments "Rock and Stone", causing the whole thread to explode in rock-and-stone shouts, then you know you've created something extraordinary and transcending. And the "we" does not only mean us developers, but also very much you, the community around Deep Rock Galactic. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!

Deep Rock Galactic has sold over 2 million copies coming into 2021

Alongside the Among Us and Fall Guys stories of 2020, a particularly unsung powerhouse of the year was Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Ghost Ship Games’ sci-fi dwarven mining shooter, Deep Rock Galactic. The game came out of early access in 2020 and absolutely slayed with its class-based co-op gameplay. With the successful 1.0 launch in 2020, Coffee Stain recently revealed that the game crossed over 2 million copies sold coming into 2021.

This tidbit was revealed in a celebratory infographic shared in a press release by Coffee Stain Publishing on January 26, 2021. Where 2018 saw a little over 500,000 copies sold and 2019 saw just over 400k, 2020 and the 1.0 release saw Deep Rock Galactic sell over 1.18 million copies alone, nearly tripling the sales of the previous year. Other interesting stats include a peak concurrent count of around 20,000, a growing playerbase which has spent an alleged 7,478 combined years playing the game, and a maintained user review ranking of #42 (at this time of writing) on Steam250, which tracks the most highly-rated games of the platform.

Deep Rock Galactic's 2 million copy accolade is joined by a wealth of impressive stats about the game since its early access launch in 2018 and 1.0 launch in 2020.

Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship Games have plenty to be proud of when it comes to Deep Rock Galactic. The game’s blend of Left 4 Dead, Helldivers, and other action co-op shooter experiences into its chaotic and addicting overall experience earned it plenty of praise from across the industry, including an award for Shacknews Best Co-Op game of 2020. While it might not have had the sung praises of other darling hits in 2020, the game was undeniably good and arguably deserves all the sales and more.

Largely, Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship attribute their success to listening to fans and expanding Deep Rock Galactic with the feedback given to continue to make the game one of the best co-op experiences around. With that in mind, we can probably expect to see the game continue to grow and expand in meaningful ways throughout 2021. Until then, big congrats to the publisher and devs. It's well-earned.

Deep Rock Galactic's next update adds two new biomes full of horrible new beasts

There's a rich vein of new content on the way for Deep Rock Galactic, the co-op game about being a disturbingly expendable dwarf miner. Update 33 adds two new biomes, new missions to complete in them, and new enemies who will make your job harder than it already is. Let's dig in, shall we?

The new biomes are the Azure Weald and the Hollow Bough. In the Azure Weald, you'll be treated to a dazzling world full of bioluminescent neon, populated with the new Mactera Tri-Jaws and Mactera Brundles, which will attempt to eat your face (as well as your beard). The Hollow Bough is a more garden themed area, gloomy and full of twisted, thorny vines. Here you're meet Deeptora Bough Wasps, which do unpleasant wasp things like swarming. There are also the irritable Stabber Vines, and you'll just have to figure out how they got their name on your own.

Update 33 also brings with it some overhauls to several of Deep Rock Galactic's core mission types. In Elimination tasks, you'll be up against two new variants of the Dreadnought - there's the Dreadnought Hiveguard and the twin Dreadnoughts, Arbalest and Lacerator. Again, you'll work out how these guys got their names pretty quickly, we reckon.

Update 33 Release Date
Greetings, Miners!
You’ve all been twiddling your beards in anticipation of this, so here it is. Update 33 will release onto Steam on February 4th. Titled NEW FRONTIERS, Update 33 will grant access to two brand new biomes - the mysterious wonders of the AZURE WEALD, and the thorn-infested hell of HOLLOW BOUGH. Update 33 also includes all-new Mactera variations and several new strains of horrible Glyphid Dreadnought mutations.

Should the new biomes, the Dreadnought Hiveguard, and the monster twins: Dreadnought Arbalest and Lacerator, not satisfy your thirst, we also have the Mactera Trijaw and the Mactera Brundle standing by to harass your endeavors, together with tweaks and changes to current mission types, such as being able to retrieve Doretta's control unit in Escort missions plus downloading the location M.U.L.E legs, and building fuel lines in Salvage missions.

We will also be adding the horned helmet we promised during the Steam Award nominations, and rumor has it that a new paid cosmetic DLC will allow you to dress your dwarf in an exotic dreadnought carapace.

The Xbox/Win10 version of Update 33 will release a week later on February 11th.
Experimental Branch and Dev-streams
If you absolutely can’t wait to get your pickaxe dirty, we will release Update 33 onto the Experimental branch on Steam on January 25th, and if you’d like to put your boots up and ingest a glyphid slammer with some good, solid dwarven entertainment, we will be live-streaming the two new biomes on our Twitch channel on January 21st and 22nd (1 PM UTC+1 both days). Update: The stream for Thursday will take place at 8 PM UTC+1.

Finally, we'll leave you with a handful of fresh screenshots and images from the upcoming update:
