It's not every day Dota 2 gets a new map. In fact, it's pretty much just today. The New Frontiers Update is Here

Sometimes Dota gameplay patches are small. Sometimes they can get pretty big.

This one... is huge.

It’s got all the things you were probably expecting — balance changes, new items, hero reworks, UI improvements. But we also included a few changes you probably weren't expecting, like a new hero attribute type and — brace yourself — the map is now 40% bigger.

But all these new gameplay features won’t matter if the match you get into isn’t a good one. So we’re also shipping some much-needed matchmaking improvements.

Excited? Confused? Head on over to the New Frontiers update page for all the details.

But don’t head over just yet, read this sentence first: The Berlin major is on April 26th, and Fantasy/Player Cards are now available. Okay, now go. Here’s the link again.

Riddles in the Dark

As a lot of you know, there’s a big update coming. As we’ve been going through the patch notes for it, we figured it might be fun to tease some of them ahead of time, without spoiling the surprise. We’ve assembled a handful of genuine notes for the upcoming patch, provided without context, to whet your appetite while we put the finishing touches on the update.

Anyway, get ready for your first hint:
  • The next big Dota Update is going to release on a date that rhymes with Smaypril Twemmieth and comes between April 19th and April 21st.

OK, that one was advanced level. We should have put that at the end. Here’s some easier ones to build up your riddle skills:
  • [UNIT] is now controllable by the player that dug it up
  • [HERO]: Always has 0 Intelligence. Always.
  • [ITEM]: Now has an initial and max stock of 4 and a restock time of 120s
  • After this effect the soul is forcefully returned to the body
  • [HERO]: Base armor increased by 1
  • [UNIT TYPE] now gain 15 movement speed during the night.
  • Mana cost reduction effects only apply to mana cost
  • [ITEM]: Requires Echo Sabre (2500), Diadem (1000), Recipe (1000). Total cost: 4500
  • Any player can use a [NOUN] to [VERB] to the other one after channeling for 3 seconds.

Dota 2 Workshop Spring Call-to-Arms

In the wake of Muerta's arrival with the Dead Reckoning update, it's time to aim our sights at updates to come. To that end, the Dota team would like to invite all workshop contributors to conjure up some new sets for any of your favorite heroes. Submissions are already open, and we're looking forward to seeing your full craft on display.

This round of submissions also welcomes designs for the Toy Butcher Pudge Persona and the Disciple's Path Anti-Mage Persona, which have both blinked into the workshop just in time to join the fun.

We request that all submissions be on the Dota 2 Workshop by the end of the day on May 29, 2023 PDT. Please make sure to mark your work with the "Spring 2023" tag when tendering items to the Workshop to ensure they aren't overlooked. As always, please avoid concepts involving human skulls, blood, and gore. We'd like to remind all Dota fans to regularly visit the Workshop and vote through the Queue to ensure your voices are heard in the selection process.

We'll also be launching a second Workshop Call-to-Arms later this year — with a late-August deadline — so even if you've got new ideas at the ready, there's plenty of time to brainstorm on your designs.
