Dota 2 patch 7.81 Techies rework ditches Stasis Trap for Sticky Bombs

Dota 2's latest update is huge and there's good news and bad news when it comes to Techies. The good news is that Techies aren't going anywhere. The bad news is that Techies aren't going anywhere - sorry Team Secret. Squee, Spleen, and Spoon - of Techies Demolition - are divisive figures in Dota 2 but Valve isn't giving up on them yet. Valve's Dota 2 patch 7.81 Techies rework aims to bring them back into the fold as team players with a pair of new abilities.

With "new ways to inflict joyous pain", Valve has swapped out Minefield Sign and Stasis Trap for Sticky Bomb and Reactive Tazer in a change that aims to shake-up Techies' role in the meta. They're still bringing the boom as Nukers, but these changes also lean into their secondary role as Disablers a lot more.

Techies' Sticky Bomb doesn't just blow up when it sticks to an enemy, it can also reduce their movement speed up to 55%. With a cooldown of six seconds when fully upgraded, it's easy to see how this will be a devastating build up to the final blow for anyone trying to escape a teamfight.

Dota 2's Primal Beast is going to pummel everyone, including your own team

Dota 2's long-awaited new hero, Primal Beast, is finally in the game. It's a beast that pounds and smashes his way across the map, and as such is a strength hero. And from the looks of it, this bad boy's going to shake up the meta - literally.

The first thing you need to know about Primal Beast is that its "durable" and "initiator" bars on his hero screen are maxed out. All other bars are empty except for "disabler," which is a tad over halfway. Primal beast is clearly meant to do nothing but initiate a team fight like Godzilla reincarnate.

His Onslaught ability will be key to doing this. It makes Primal Beast charge up, then rush in a direction of your choosing, knocking back and stunning anything in his way, which means both enemies and friendlies. There's no doubt that we'll see Primal Beast take out his own team just as often as he takes out the enemy team.

Primal Beast is the new Dota 2 hero - here are his abilities

After much anticipation, Dota 2's 7.31 patch has gone live, with a new hero called Primal Beast. In addition to the previously-announced Techies Demolitions rework, the patch notes include a host of more general balance changes, including a big update to the jungle introducing several new creeps to battle.

Primal Beast is a strength hero rated for disabler, durable, and initiator roles. His first ability is Onslaught, a charge which knocks back anyone - enemy or ally - in range, and will damage and stun enemies caught in the effect. Charging the charge will let Primal Beast charge further. Trample creates an AoE damage effect around Primal Beast, which will damage all enemies for 140 units traveled.

Uproar is a passive buff to base bonus damage, and Primal Beast gains additional stacks of the ability each time an enemy hero deals 35 damage or more. You can activate those stacks for a roar that'll slow nearby enemies and grant bonus attack damage and armour. Pulverize will grab an enemy target, slamming them back to the ground for AoE damage.
