Netflix posts "Dota fans only" clip to get Dota 2 lovers on board for the anime

If you're a Dota 2 fan, you'll know it's a very big week for the MOBA game's universe. The Netflix anime Dota: Dragon's Blood drops in just a couple days, and the streaming giant has been pumping out videos - featuring popular Dota 2 YouTuber SirActionSlacks - about what the show will bring. Now, Netflix's posted a clip telling Dota lovers out there why they should tune in.

In a new clip "made just for Dota fans", SirActionSlacks gives a rundown of reasons the show might appeal to existing Dota fans. Reason number one, the YouTuber says, is simple and to-the-point: "because it's badass!" He explains that the show isn't just a videogame adaptation or made for a younger audience - instead it's "adult". "Characters curse, have sex, get drunk, and get eviscerated violently - gloriously. Much like a ranked Dota game, in this world anything could happen - and, typically, the worst does."

He adds that, with an adult audience in mind, the show won't present viewers with predictable storylines or "forced morality" - it "respects you, the viewer".

Dota fans made an unofficial tutorial to help anime viewers start playing

Valve's Dota 2 is spawning an animated adaptation on Netflix this week, and many players see this as an opportunity to welcome fresh meat to the wizard wars. The official tutorial is a bit bum, though, so fans took it on themselves to create a better unofficial one. Enthusiasm! Supported by a crowdfunding campaign raising almost $30,000 (£21k), they've now released their in-game tutorial as a mod. Will you learn the ways of wizards?

It's tough to describe Dota 2 to someone who's never heard of it. MOBA games like Dota 2 are built on a complex set of often unintuitive rules, and learning them takes a lot of time and effort. With the Dota 2 anime arriving on Netflix this week, a group of dedicated Dota 2 modders have decided to make a brand new tutorial to Valve's MOBA, and it's live now in the Steam Workshop.

The Dota 2 Community Tutorial Project is an attempt to create a new player onboarding experience for people who become curious about the game after watching the upcoming animated series on Netflix. "Assuming that there will be an influx of new players brought in from the anime's release, we have banded together as a community to create a tutorial for these new players in the form of a custom game," the modders explain.

"Our main goal is to get them used to the game, learn its mechanics, and prepare them for their first bot match," the description in the Steam Workshop reads. "Furthermore, we can do what Valve cannot: directly link community resources like [D]iscords, content creators, and guide websites to the players so that they may start on a more advanced journey to learn Dota 2.
