Dota is getting an animated series - or 'anime', as Netflix insists on calling all its adult-oriented action cartoons. The emphasis is definitely on the 'adult' part, too. A writer on the show has confirmed that Dota: Dragon Blood follows in the footsteps of the Castlevania series with plenty of adult content, both foul language and nudity. At last, naked videogame characters on the internet.
"Warning," writer Amy Chu says on Twitter, "this show is not for the kiddies! There's cursing and naked Davion butt... think Castlevania." I'm not sure if that's actually a warning, or more of a promise, but such is the way of NSFW notices in 2021. You might be working from home anyway, what's NSFW really mean these days?
Either way, Dota: Dragon Blood is an eight episode series that'll hit Netflix on March 25. The streaming giant has had plenty of animated takes on a variety of videogame properties already, though some have certainly been more successful than others. Castlevania was great, though Dragon's Dogma not so much. Here's hoping Dota: Dragon's Blood proves successful.

Valve has announced that its hit MOBA game, Dota 2, will be getting its own anime titled Dota: Dragon's Blood. The eight-episode series, which is to be published in conjunction with streaming giant Netflix, is due to air on March 25.
In Netflix's own announcement, showrunner and executive producer Ashley Edward Miller states that "fans will love how we've imagined the Dota 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favourite characters."
The series is set to follow Davion, "a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm, as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined."

More and more of the best PC games are in for animated adaptations, it seems. Not only have we got Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and a Tomb Raider 'anime' series on the way - streaming giant Netflix has just announced it's got an anime series based on the Dota universe coming, too.
"We're excited to announce a brand-new anime series exploring the Dota universe like never before," the multiplayer game's developer Valve announces on Twitter. "As fellow fans of Dota and its passionate global community, we look forward to sharing this new adventure with you when it premieres on Netflix March 25."
The announcement brings a trailer giving us a good peek at the upcoming series, which you can check out below. Made in collaboration with Valve, the series is called Dota: Dragon's Blood, and it appears Dota 2 hero Davion, the Dragon Knight, will play a key role. The clip opens with a voice asking, "What are you called?" to which a reply comes: "Davion, Dragon Knight".
