Some Dota 2 and CS:GO servers are down because a cable got cut

If you normally play your Valve games through the servers for the eastern United States, you might have a worse time than usual today. Valve's US East matchmaking servers are currently down, and it's not because of capacity issues or a DDoS attack or anything you'd usually expect - no, they're down because somebody cut a cable.

"The US East matchmaking server cluster is offline temporarily," Valve tweets from the official Dota 2 account. "There is a cut fiber cable causing a wide area outage in the hosting region. In the meantime we suggest queuing in other servers." There's not yet an estimated time for the fix, but then I guess Valve can't tell you what the cable company's gonna do.

The issue also affects Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but as venerable Valve observer wickedplayer494 notes on Twitter, those games should automatically distribute you to appropriate servers. But you can expect worse latency if you're used to performance on the US East cluster.

Dota 2's The International 10 prize pool reaches $30 million

Dota 2's The International 10 prize pool has reached $30 million. The eye-watering amount is raised by the MOBA's fans buying Valve's Dota 2 Battle Pass to get cool cosmetics and items for the game. The money will be won by the team that wins The International 10, whenever it finally takes place.

Dota 2's Battle Pass is legendary. Players have always managed to push the boundaries of esports prize pools with Dota 2, and this year is no different. When the Battle Pass came out, it took just 24 hours to reach $8 million, then continued to surge to $20 million in a month.

Now just over two months after its release the Battle Pass prize pool is at a whopping $30 million. No doubt the teams participating in The International 10 will be excited to compete to win the cash, but unfortunately, we're not even sure when the event will take place as it's currently postponed.

Dota 2's Immortal Treasure II has been added to the TI10 battle pass

Dota 2's The International 10 is a bit stuck right now - the tournament is currently postponed with no official event date but at least while we wait, there are some shiny new cosmetic Battle Pass items.

That's right, the Immortal Treasure II is now available to players. All Battle Pass owners will find an Immortal Treasure II already in their Armory to unbox and increasing your battle level will allow you to earn more treasures as you go.

This time around the heroes getting cool new cosmetics are Magnus, Slardar, Troll Warlord, Sven, Silencer, Jakiro, Ursa, and Witch Doctor. The items vary from a new helmet for Sven, called Vigil Odyssey, to Awaleb's Trundleweed for Witch Doctor. The most valuable items, however, are the rare set of wings you could get for Jakiro, or the super rare versions of the items for Witch Doctor and Slardar, or even the Ursa cub carrier.

Dota 2 star Ceb explains why he's returning to OG six months after retiring

One of OG's back-to-back The International-winning team, Sebastien 'Ceb' Debs, has revealed why he made the surprise decision to return to the main roster and compete in Dota 2 once again six months after retiring.

Ceb announced his retirement as a player in January of this year but remained with OG as a coach. However, the organisation revealed on July 25 that Sumail 'Sumail' Hassan would be departing and that Ceb would return to competing once again. Now the Frenchman has lifted the lid on why he came out of competitive retirement - and he seems pretty fired up.

In an interview with OG, Ceb says the biggest reason he retired in the first place was that he was burned out and struggling to create a balance between competing and a social life outside of Dota. However, changing attitudes to burnout in the esports industry - which has become a prevalent topic in esports recently with the likes of Astralis' CS:GO roster suffering two big burnout casualties - convinced Ceb to come back.
