The best MOBA games

Looking for the best MOBAs? Multiplayer RTS games like League of Legends are also known as MOBAs - or 'multiplayer online battle arenas'. That explanation might not leave you any the wiser about what a MOBA actually is, so, to briefly summarise: MOBAs are 5v5 matches in which two teams ultimately attempt to destroy their opponents' base and achieve glorious victory.

The best MOBA games all follow the same broad template: each player chooses a character at the start of the match, and they begin at level one and are initially relatively weak. Using the resources available on the map, your objective is to gradually become more powerful than your foes and eventually overpower them.

MOBAs can be pretty complicated to get your head around as a new player, as many of them have lots of complex mechanics to master - but that's also what makes them particularly suited to being some of the biggest esports games in the world. Of course, there are plenty of fun MOBAs that are more accessible and easy to play, too. So if you're ready to choose a lane, here's our guide to the best MOBA games.

But this time I found something unexpected - Primal Beast is the hero I've been waiting for almost a decade.

Getting in-game for the first time after the update, I managed to lock in Primal Beast after a lengthy matchmaking queue. As we left the fountain and I was able to size up his mammoth stature, the other heroes and jungle creeps appeared nothing short of miniscule in comparison. Yes, I was ready to kit him out like a tank and charge my way to victory.

As the team stopped skirmishing in lane and started roaming the map, Primal Beast was in his element. As the enemy team gathered in middle lane and pushed towards the tower, I waited in the trees, feeling like Godzilla waiting to strike. As they edged closer, I charged Primal Beast's Onslaught ability, which causes him to dash forward and smash and stun anything in his way.
