Dota 2's The International 10 will now take place in Romania

Two weeks ago, the possibility of Dota 2's The International 10 was thrown into jeopardy after The Swedish Sports Confederation ruled against adding esports to its list of recognised sports, meaning Sweden wouldn't be able to play host to the tournament. But now it appears TI10 has found a new home.


Strap yourselves in Dota fans, because Valve has confirmed this year's tournament is heading to Bucharest, Romania. However, since the logistics of switching host cities is pretty complicated, TI10's start date has been pushed back by a month.


Instead, the group stage will run October 7-10, followed by the Main Stage event, which kicks off on October 12. Then, once the two best teams have been decided, they will face off inside the Arena Nationala on October 16 for their slice of the record breaking £40 million prize pool.

In June, Valve announced that it was looking for a new home for The International 10, the upcoming Dota 2 world championship. The event had been planned for Stockholm, Sweden, but Valve began looking into alternative locations after it was unable to have the tournament recognized as an "elite sporting event."..

Announcing New Location and Dates for The International - Dota 2 Championships

We are thrilled to announce The International 10 - Dota 2 Championships will be held this October in Bucharest, Romania, and the epic battle for the Aegis of Champions will fittingly unfold inside the country's largest stadium — Arena Nationala.

Group Stage will run October 7 - 10, with Main Stage play kicking off on October 12. Then on October 17, the two finest Dota 2 teams in the world will face off for the Aegis and their shares of the $40,018,195 prize pool that awaits. Additional information on ticket sales will come shortly.
