PUBG's Continental Series returns in November, confirms $800,000 prize pool

The dates for the third PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Continental Series (PCS3) tournament have been scheduled for November.

Just like the previous series, the PCS3 is broken down into four regional tournaments across North America, Asia, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. The winners of each of these tournaments will receive a share of $200,000 in prize money, with $800,000 in total up for grabs across each of the regions.

Teams have the opportunity to qualify for the PCS3 Grand Final by entering a qualification round this month. The PCS3 group stage is where 24 teams will fight each other for one of the coveted places. Only 16 teams will make it to the PCS3 Grand Final, so there's bound to be some exciting matches on the leadup to the main event. Every round of the tournament will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube for anyone wanting to get in on the action.

PUBG's new Paramo map may be home to the Fountain of Youth

October 7, 2020 PUBG Corp. has published a video containing new hints about Paramo.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has a new map on the way, and now we're almost certain that it's called Paramo. Set on a plateau in the mountains of Peru, Paramo apparently holds ancient mysteries - and, we're guessing, a bunch of guns.

In late September, a series of crates were shipped out with pieces of a stone tablet and letters referencing 'Paramo,' all of which pointed to a major update. Dataminer PlayerIGN tweeted pictures of one of the crates. A wax-sealed letter from a researcher makes reference to a dig in a location called Paramo, and mentions that researchers have smashed a stone tablet into nine pieces for secret delivery. The stone shard inside the crate has lengthy lines of a mysterious language written across it, which the community is now working to decipher.

"Perhaps you'll be able to decode it and - if you can find others like you - unlock the curious backstory of our new map for season 9," PUBG Corp wrote in a message attached to the crates. The word Paramo is generally used to refer to a mountainous tropical region, usually in South America, and that indeed is where the map is set - in the Andes mountains of Peru.

PUBG Season 9 will include ranked solos for the first time

Ever since PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds introduced ranked mode, fans have demanded one thing, and one thing only - solo ranked. Now that time is finally here, because PUBG Corp has announced solos are coming to PUBG ranked for the launch of Season 9.

The developer had already hinted that the anticipated mode was on the way but it had to be developed in a way that didn't harm "the health of other queues and modes." Now it looks like PUBG Corp has found a solution to longer queue times, because it'll drop with the new season in late October.

"Ranked Season 9 will start soon and features Ranked Solos for the first time, thanks to your feedback," the update says. "That's right, starting with Season 9, you'll finally be able to test your skills in the traditional Battle Royale format, standing alone against an entire battleground of enemies."

PUBG Season 9 "features Ranked Solos for the first time"

Earlier this month PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp. announced it was "actively working on" adding Ranked Solos to the battle royale game's modes. At the time, the studio said it was trying to implement Ranked Solos "without harming the health of other queues and modes", but there was no timeframe given on exactly when it would arrive. Until now, that is - the dev's revealed it's on the way with PUBG Ranked Season 9.

Right at the bottom of a blog post on the multiplayer game's site detailing all the PUBG Season 8 ranked rewards and goodies up for grabs, the studio reveals a little about what's on the way with Season 9. "Ranked Season 9 will start soon and features Ranked Solos for the first time, thanks to your feedback!" the studio announces. "That's right, starting with Season 9, you'll finally be able to test your skills in the traditional Battle Royale format, standing alone against an entire Battleground of enemies!"

The dev adds that it's "excited" to debut Ranked Solos in the coming season, but for now it reminds PUBG fans there's still time to grab this season's ranked rewards before it comes to and end.
