PUBG might be removing first-person duos in North America

First-person duos is expected to be removed from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in North America at some point in the near future. According to developers, taking the mode out of the battle royale game would allow for the "optimal" configuration.

Speaking on Twitter, Brian Corrigan, head of PUBG in North America, discussed plans for changing the mode selection in the region. Following on from an earlier survey on potential changes, he updated with the current gameplan. From discussing with almost 50 players and partners, as he and the team see it, the optimal NA setup on PC for normal is third-person-perspective solo and duos, and third-person and first-person-perspective squads. Ranked would be first-person only with solo and squads, and then customs.

Part of the strategy is to merge duos into squads, where players can team up anyway. In the replies, Corrigan and community manager Henry Guild elaborate on the thinking, where it was revealed one specific reason is to help optimise queuing. "We understand many duo players aren't necessarily jumping into squads when they can't play duos," Guild wrote in one reply. "At the same time, we need to make some tough decisions with the intention of increasing the health of other queues, namely squad ranked."

PUBG's Continental Series Two brings back Pick'Em Challenge and Esports shop

The Esports shop and Pick'Em Challenge are returning to Player Unknown's Battlegrounds with the Continental Series Two. The Esports shop will offer exclusive items for your character that you can buy using the aptly named Esports Points, including gear sets, weapon skins, and other cosmetic items. Players can earn Esports Points through the Pick'Em Challenge for the latest Continental Series.

The Pick'Em Challenge allows players to vote on which teams they think will be victorious in the PCS2 tournament, and it's split into two separate categories. Firstly, players can predict which they think will be the overall winning team in each region. You will be given one voting coupon per region but you can earn more if you purchase PSC2 items. If your chosen team is successful, you will receive 100,000 EPs, meaning you can win a total of 400,000 EPs across all four regions.

The second category is the Team Faceoff. This event pits teams against each other and allows you to vote for which team will rank highest out of the two. This event may be enticing as there are no voting coupons required to place your vote. However, returning players who took part in the Continental Series One Pick'Em Challenge will see a slight change as, this time around, the EPs you'll receive for a win will be based on the winning team's final percentage of votes.

PUBG Update 8.2 restores the original menu music, adds helmet hiding

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Update 8.2 has hit the battle royale game's live servers, with some snazzy new toys and gameplay tweaks in tow. Alongside some weapon remodels and re-textures, world updates, and quality of life improvements are the "monstrous" new MG3, the decoy grenade throwable, the chance to tuck that helmet out of sight, and even some nostalgic new (old?) lobby music.

First up, the most recent weapon to come to the multiplayer game's care packages is the "fast firing MG3 light machine gun," the latest patch notes detail. "With two different rates of fire, a bipod for stability, tracer rounds to help you keep track of your spray, and increased weapon damage to vehicles, there's a new reason to fight over the big red box." The weapon only spawns in normal matches, but packs a punch, with firing rate options of 660 rpm and 990 rpm, 75 rounds, 820 m/s muzzle velocity, and even a bonus boost when aiming at vehicles: 1.25 times the damage.

As for that PUBG decoy grenade, developer PUBG Corp. says: "Disorient your enemies and cover your movements with the new Decoy Grenade. Available as world loot on Sanhok, the Decoy Grenade will make fake firing sounds for about ten seconds after thrown, giving you a few moments to make your move".
