After years of fan requests, ranked mode finally arrived in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds earlier this year. While that was positively received, it was immediately met head on with another request: ranked solos. The developers have confirmed that ranked solos is being worked on, but that the idea is for the new mode - whenever it comes - to not damage the other modes in the game.

"Since ranked mode was introduced to PUBG many of you have been asking for the addition of ranked solos," the developers say on Twitter. "We want you to know that we've heard your request loud and clear, and are actively working on the best way to add ranked solo without harming the health of other queues and modes."

Henrik 'WackyJacky101' Kjærulff, one of the leading content creators and YouTubers in the PUGB scene, has some suggestions on how to implement the mode, including expanding from 64 players to "at least 80."

• In situations where a teammate reconnects to the game while dead, others in the team may be unable to see the UI which indicates they're a part of your team.

Earlier this year, Ranked mode came to PUBG for the first time since the battle royale game's launch. It was launched for FPP and TPP squads only, and the community has been keen to find out if developer PUBG Corp. will be adding Ranked solo play at some point. Now, the dev has posted a fresh announcement on this very topic, explaining it's "actively working on" adding Ranked Solos - but wants to make sure it's not at the expense of the multiplayer game's existing queues and modes.

"Since Ranked mode was introduced to PUBG many of you have been asking for the addition of Ranked Solos," the announcement on Twitter says. "We want you to know that we've heard your request loud and clear, and are actively working on the best way to add Ranked Solo without harming the health of other queues and modes."

There's no timeframe given in the post for the addition of the mode, but it does add that it'll keep fans "updated when more information is available". The dev explains that it just "wanted to provide an update here first", and thanks PUBG players for their continuing feedback.

First-person duos is expected to be removed from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in North America at some point in the near future. According to developers, taking the mode out of the battle royale game would allow for the "optimal" configuration.

Speaking on Twitter, Brian Corrigan, head of PUBG in North America, discussed plans for changing the mode selection in the region. Following on from an earlier survey on potential changes, he updated with the current gameplan. From discussing with almost 50 players and partners, as he and the team see it, the optimal NA setup on PC for normal is third-person-perspective solo and duos, and third-person and first-person-perspective squads. Ranked would be first-person only with solo and squads, and then customs.

Part of the strategy is to merge duos into squads, where players can team up anyway. In the replies, Corrigan and community manager Henry Guild elaborate on the thinking, where it was revealed one specific reason is to help optimise queuing. "We understand many duo players aren't necessarily jumping into squads when they can't play duos," Guild wrote in one reply. "At the same time, we need to make some tough decisions with the intention of increasing the health of other queues, namely squad ranked."
