PUBG patch adds a new vehicle, gun, and casual mode

A raft of new content has made its way to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on PC. Update 13.2 has been on the test server for the past week, but it's now on the live server alongside a new PUBG survivor pass.

With the update, you're getting a new SMG called the P90. It's been added to care packages, making it the first SMG to be flung in since the original Tommy Gun. It comes with its own 5.6mm high-powered ammo, which makes it suitable for longer-range combat. It also comes with a cheek pad, handguard, laser, and silencer pre-attached and non-detachable.

There's also a new pickup truck called the Porter that's exclusive to Taego. It's Hyundai's representative commercial truck, which was first introduced in 1977, if you're into your truck facts. The Porter - like, the in-game version - also comes with a trunk system, which you can use to maximise the acquisition of items. You use the compartment of the truck to load various items for when you need 'em. Keep in mind, though, that they'll be destroyed if the Porter goes kaput, naturally.

PUBG LABS: Zone Tag Again

Hello Survivors!

The battle for the Blue Ball is back. PUBG presents to you LABS: Zone Tag Again! Since the first version of Zone Tag that was released this February was quite experimental for us as well, we've utilized our players' feedback thereafter and made some both big and small changes that would hopefully suit your tastes.

Let's now take a look at those changes.
LABS: Zone Tag Changes
HEALTH REGENERATION
 • To make things fairer, all players can now regenerate health based on their movement speed (also works inside vehicles). The faster you move, the more health you regenerate per second.
OVERALL LOOT
 • We’ve increased the overall amount of loot as we noticed that players were not able to find enough loot within phases of the game.
 • We also removed boost items as everyone can regenerate HP based on movement speed.
THE ANCHOR
 • An Anchor will spawn if the Carrier stays in one area for too long.
 • The area radius of the Anchor gets larger with every circle phase.
 • The Blue Ball will get detached if the Carrier does not move away from the Anchor.
BOATS AND AQUARAILS
 • Boats and Aquarails will spawn.
 • The Carrier however cannot enter water, nor use boats or Aquarails.

For more details on the general rules of Zone Tag, check out our previous announcement.

PlayerUnknown has plans for massive worlds with Prologue and Artemis

Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, was recently interviewed by GamesBeat and talked about his plans for the future, which include incorporating big, procedurally generated worlds into game design. It starts with the tech demo Prologue, which will hopefully lead to the even bigger Project Artemis.

Prologue refers to a single-player tech demo in a 64-km by 64-km world modeled off of the forests of Europe and able to simulate real-world features like coal mines as they would appear in the real world right down to the scale. Players would be dropped into this world and asked to survive. The monetization would be pay-what-you-want, but the ultimate aim is to push the tech further than is thought possible.

The goal is not only to create a space bigger in size than has ever been attempted before, but to create a believable, dynamic ecosystem. “Red Dead Redemption is fantastic, but it’s just a bunch of scripts,” says Greene. “You go kill all the bears in a region, go away, come back, and they’re all back again. I want to have meaningful life in the world. If you kill all the bears in a region, maybe the deer population explodes.”

Playerunknown's next game Prologue is an open world survival tech demo

Earlier this week, Brendan "Playerunknown" Greene of Plunkbat fame announced that he would be leaving PUBG Corp parents Krafton to found a new studio called Playerunknown Productions. Today, Greene has posted a video explaining a bit about the studio's first project called Prologue—first teased back in 2019. It will launch first as a tech demo about surviving in a procedurally generated wilderness, Greene says, and it'll also be "a chance to look at what we've accomplished by leveraging machine learning" for huge open worlds. Greene has explained more about Prologue today, with more information coming soon.
