PlayerUnknown has plans for massive worlds with Prologue and Artemis

Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, was recently interviewed by GamesBeat and talked about his plans for the future, which include incorporating big, procedurally generated worlds into game design. It starts with the tech demo Prologue, which will hopefully lead to the even bigger Project Artemis.

Prologue refers to a single-player tech demo in a 64-km by 64-km world modeled off of the forests of Europe and able to simulate real-world features like coal mines as they would appear in the real world right down to the scale. Players would be dropped into this world and asked to survive. The monetization would be pay-what-you-want, but the ultimate aim is to push the tech further than is thought possible.

The goal is not only to create a space bigger in size than has ever been attempted before, but to create a believable, dynamic ecosystem. “Red Dead Redemption is fantastic, but it’s just a bunch of scripts,” says Greene. “You go kill all the bears in a region, go away, come back, and they’re all back again. I want to have meaningful life in the world. If you kill all the bears in a region, maybe the deer population explodes.”

Playerunknown's next game Prologue is an open world survival tech demo

Earlier this week, Brendan "Playerunknown" Greene of Plunkbat fame announced that he would be leaving PUBG Corp parents Krafton to found a new studio called Playerunknown Productions. Today, Greene has posted a video explaining a bit about the studio's first project called Prologue—first teased back in 2019. It will launch first as a tech demo about surviving in a procedurally generated wilderness, Greene says, and it'll also be "a chance to look at what we've accomplished by leveraging machine learning" for huge open worlds. Greene has explained more about Prologue today, with more information coming soon.

PUBG's new Porter truck is essentially a portable supply crate

PUBG 13.2 update is here, and while it is stacked with changes and new features - such as the addition of the P90 SMG, Blue Zone Grenades, and a few Taego tweaks - there's only one thing we're interested in: a dinky little Hyundai truck.

A new vehicle is coming to Taego, and it's called the Porter. This cute little minivan has space for four players, and is great at navigating its way through rugged terrain. But why do we love this humble Korean truck so much? It comes with a brand new feature that could turn the tide of your Taego matches.

The Porter debuts a new Trunk System in PUBG, which allows squads to dump their weapons and loot in the back and cart it around the map. The Porter can hold any item that you can carry around in your own personal inventory, as well as weapons, vests, helmets, and backpacks, and any player can access it by walking next to it or getting inside it.
