PUBG is reportedly getting new content from an abandoned sequel

June 22, 2021 Krafton has confirmed the existence of Project Titan, but no other additional information is available at this time.

There's a whiff of change in the air for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. From Krafton's planned return to PUBG roots with a 8x8 map and new innovations like the second-chance mechanic, PUBG could well be reborn later this year.

While the flurry of game-changing updates to PUBG are nothing to worry about, many are confused as to why Krafton is deciding to roll them out now. Former PUBG Corp CEO, Kim Chang-hang, told Bloomberg in January that a new "PUBG-related PC and console game" was slated for release in 2022 - so why all the recent innovation to the original PUBG?

Prominent PUBG leaker, 'PlayerIGN', appears to have the answer, telling The Loadout exclusively that the sequel, known as Project RE:BORN, had some development issues, leaving it dead in the water. As a result, the game has been abandoned, but some of its major features are being pumped into PUBG.

PUBG's Taego map update might add self-pickup and other features

brief teaser has been released showing the "exclusive features" coming to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds with the release of its new map, Taego. Self-pickup, new guns, and Pony Coupe coming in PUBG's Taego update

The new PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds map is coming next month and a new trailer has been released to tease upcoming features being added in the next update to the still-popular battle royale game. Fans have dug through the PUBG Taego map trailer and have spotted new guns, vehicles, and a possible self-pickup ability.

As developer Krafton revealed last week, the new Taego map is headed to the game in the 12.2 update - which is set to release in just a few weeks on July 7th on PC (July 15th on consoles). Like PUBG's original Miramar, Taego will be a massive 8x8 km map, but otherwise there hasn't been any firm facts about what players can expect from it - leaving fans to do the dirty work.

PUBG dataminer PlayerIGN has already indicated that there will be a new respawn system "where players fight for their revival" on a small Gulag island, but now they're back with a list of potential new features uncovered in the latest PUBG trailer.

PUBG's new 8x8 map Taego is coming in the next patch

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is going back to its roots for the next big update with a new map that's the same size as both Erangel and Miramar.

PUBG fans have known about Taego for a while, but only by its codename Tiger. Details have been pretty few and far between, but now we've finally got our first glimpse of it in a teaser video, which you can watch down below.

In short though, it looks like a reversed Erangel. What would be Erangel's military island is to the north, connected to the main part of Taego by six or seven bridges. A smaller island, to the west of the map, is connected to both parts of the island by two bridges. The poster in the teaser trailer also indicates we'll see multiple care package drops on the map, as well as big cities and structures, like stadiums.

PUBG gets its first 8x8 map since Miramar with 'Taego' next update

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds gets back to its roots when the battle royale game's next patch rolls around, with a new map on the way that'll pit players against each other in the style of its second-oldest map, Miramar.

Krafton has unveiled Taego, a new PUBG map headed the game's way with its next major update, patch 12.2. Like Miramar, it'll be an 8x8km map, so we can expect what will be one of the game's biggest battlegrounds. Details are light for now, but the studio has posted a teaser introducing the map on YouTube, which you can check out below. All we can see is a plane following a flight path over the map as it changes to a poster reading: "Code name: Tiger", and revealing that the release date is July 7 for players on PC (July 15 for our friends on consoles).

Fans have already begun trying to decode the map, though, with one Redditor having put together a "hand-drawn" map that aims to reflect its apparent features might be from the teaser's brief snapshot. It's just guesswork for now, though, as there aren't any details from Krafton just yet.
