The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition brings the RPG to new-gen consoles next week


A new edition of The Outer Worlds is coming out next week, bringing updated visuals, a higher level cap, and more.


The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition was announced today by Obsidian Entertainment, a new version of the game that brings it to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It's out soon, too, March 7 to be exact. You'll be able to pick up the fancy new version of the game on PC too, and if you already own it on PC, PS4, or Xbox One, you'll be able to upgrade to the new-gen version at a discounted price of £5. If you're buying it for the first time though, it'll cost £49.99 all in.


This Spacer's Choice Edition comes with a number of new improvements, including improved graphics, new lighting and environment revamps, faster load times, better performance, dynamic weather systems, and an increased level cap. That last one means you'll have more ways to build your character from the seven branches of the skill tree.

If you already have The Outer Worlds and its associated DLC, Murder on Eridanos and Peril on Gorgon, on Steam; you can upgrade to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition for a reduced purchase price*. To enable the upgrade purchasing option, you must be signed into the same Steam Account used to purchase the base game and its associated DLC and select the “Complete the Bundle” purchasing option.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition jacks up PC system requirements


As previewed by Alice Bee, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition doesn’t simply bundle up Obsidian’s spacefaring RPG with its DLC expansions. It’s also an unexpected remaster, redoing and fine-tuning everything from companion AI and facial animations to weather effects and dynamic lighting. It’s an enticing prospect for a game that never previously counted visuals as its strong suit, though there will be a catch: the Spacer’s Choice Edition will have significantly higher PC system requirements than the 2019 original.

Late last year game voted Most Likely To Make Me Accidentally Say The Name Of A Different Game and neo-old-school space RPG The Outer Worlds was rated for a mysterious Spacer's Choice Edition. Obsidian are now ready to officially reveal said wash and brush up, which is coming next week on March 7th, and bundles both DLCs for the game with remaster-y improvements to AI, VFX and technical art. To mark the occasion I got to chat with co-directors Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain, and producer Eric DeMilt, all of whom who made games that are stastistically likely to number among your favourites - especially if you like RPGs.
