Monster Hunter: World News

This Monster Hunter mod lets you fight Doom Eternal's Marauder alongside Isabelle from Animal Crossing

Here at PCGamesN, we're suckers for a good crossover - Thomas the Tank Engine and literally any videogame, for instance. But one modder has gone above and beyond to create what may be the mother of them all: a mod that lets you fight Doom Eternal's Marauder in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

Doom Eternal x Monster Hunter World is the nightmare you've been waiting to face in Monster Hunter. The Marauder is perhaps Doom Eternal's most controversial addition to the FPS game's bestiary, a highly technical foe capable of reflecting your attacks and forcing the player to slow down and watch for specific tells before responding. To put this another way, the Marauder is a huge pain in the ass, and slapping him around with a Monster Hunter-sized greatsword seems like just what the doctor ordered.

Created by modders Lyra and Crimson, Doom Eternal x Monster Hunter World does not require ownership of Doom Eternal, but you will need Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The Marauder model here is attached to the Leshen skeleton introduced in the Witcher 3 DLC last year.

Play as Milla Jovovich in the event quests coming to Monster Hunter World

In an odd turn of events, Monster Hunter World is crossing over with the upcoming Monster Hunter movie. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Capcom is releasing two limited-time event quests where you'll have the opportunity to play as Artemis (voiced by Milla Jovovich), the star of the Monster Hunter movie.

The event quests begin similarly to the plot of the movie - US army ranger Captain Artemis finds herself in the world of Monster Hunter after falling through a mysterious portal. Seriously. Though Artemis will be speaking English throughout these event quests, the NPCs in the world will speak in Monster Hunter language. If you've watched the Monster Hunter movie trailer, we imagine they're going for a similar vibe.

The first event quest pits Artemis against a Black Diablos in the Wildspire Waste. Taking down the Diablos rewards you with the materials needed to create the Artemis alpha armour set, the same set she wears in the movie. As for the second quest, Artemis has a much larger challenge on her hands: a giant Rathalos. Defeating this beast will reward you with the materials to craft the Artemis layered armour, also from the movie

Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter movie finally looks like Monster Hunter in new trailer

It really shouldn't be hard not to screw up a Monster Hunter movie. After all, there aren't any fan-favourite characters to ruin, and there certainly isn't much of a story; all it really needs are big monsters, big weapons, lavish scenery, and, yes, big cats. So it's gratifying to see Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter movie finally being presented, in a new trailer for its Chinese release, as the kind of Monster Hunter movie fans of the series might actually want to watch.

Gone is the inexplicable emphasis on the US military seen in Sony Pictures' last Monster Hunter trailer, which largely seemed to suggest that everyone involved hadn't got even the faintest clue what Monster Hunter actually was, and in are a host of familiar elements that finally makes this cinematic spin on Capcom's long-running franchise feel like part of the same universe.

There are sweeping, fantastical landscapes that go beyond 'brown desert', there's a heaving menagerie of creatures that indicate Anderson did more research than a cursory glance at a Monster Hunter box cover, and we also get a brief tease of the Palico chef in his natural cooking habitat. There's even a welcome bit of humour, notably absent in the previous stony faced trailer, to go with all the prerequisite big weapons and action set-pieces.
