Total War: Warhammer II dev lays out Forge of Daith changes following backlash

Total War: Warhammer II fans do not care for the Forge of Daith that was added to the strategy game in the Twisted and The Twilight DLC. It's the main bespoke mechanic of the Sisters of Twilight faction, and it pops up after you win a battle to give you a shot at buffing one of your items.

You get the option to either send Naestra or Arahan to pay Daith a visit to net you a reward. Go with the former, and a random item you already have gets its rarity upgraded. Pick the later, and a random item will be buffed for a limited time. One of the more consistent criticisms of it, though, is that it's not really as "flashy or exciting" as Throt's Flesh Lab, to rattle off one example. One developer even said on a stream that the design team agrees, and that "a lot of the UI budget ended up going to Throt in this case, which kind of limited what [they] could do with the Sister's mechanic".

Now, though, Creative Assembly has chimed in with a list of changes it's making to improve things in the near and far future. The developer will tweak reforged items so they no longer return to their base level after expiring, and shall instead go back to the level they were before being reforged. The team will also do a pass over item effects, and look into the length of time between each Daith's gift event.

Total War: Warhammer 2's Twisted & Twilight patch includes a full Wood Elves rework

Total War: Warhammer 2's next piece of premium DLC, The Twisted & Twilight, arrives tomorrow. Our review of the new Lord Pack is out now, but even if you aren't planning on buying it, you're still in for some major changes thanks to the free Asrai Resurgent update that's coming to all Total Warhammer 2 players when the DLC launches.

Owners of both Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer 2 will see new settings for the Chaos invasion at the setup screen for new Mortal Empires campaigns. Once this patch arrives, you'll be able to set the difficulty level for the Chaos invasion using a new drop-down menu box that will be found next to the campaign difficulty settings. Creative Assembly says "this determines the scale of the invasion", so expect fewer Chaos troops and armies on lower settings, and more of the awful brutes on high settings.

Units in Total War: Warhammer 2 are getting new helpful stats tracked in the mouseover tooltips: total damage dealt and damage value. Damage dealt will give you a raw number of damage a particular unit has dealt when you hover over the kill counter, while damage value gives you a price tag for it. Say a unit has done 5,000 damage to a unit that cost 1,000 gold to recruit and has a health pool of 10,000 - this stat will let you know that it's done 500 gold worth of damage, which can give you a nice way of assessing how effectively you're using your high-threat units.

Total War: Warhammer 2 - The Twisted & The Twilight DLC review

Why is it that so many characters in Warhammer are motivated by hunger? First we had Throgg, then it was Grom the Paunch, and now it's Throt the Unclean. We haven't even got to the Ogre Kingdoms yet!

But Throt trying to consume the literal avatar of life as if she's some supercharged Gaviscon might be the most on-brand Skaven thing I've ever heard. And in all fairness, if I found myself trapped in Warhammer Fantasy I'd probably feel like doing some stress eating, too. It's a world filled with horrible, mutated creatures, and none more so than the twisted creations of Clan Moulder. Throt's faction of rat-men prides itself on knocking together the most warped monsters possible in the flesh labs of Hell Pit.

On the other end of the scale you have purity and the sanctity of nature. Naestra and Arahan are like the Wood Elf equivalent of Teclis and Tyrion, representing two sides of the same soul. It's appropriate, then, that they fight for natural balance, and for Ariel, the avatar of Isha and Queen of Athel Loren (a legendary hero in this pack).
