Total War: WARHAMMER II News

Total Warhammer 2's next free lord is Thorek Ironbrow

Ogre mercenaries aren't the only bit of free DLC coming to Total War: Warhammer II alongside the final Lords Pack. We're also getting another free lord in the form of Thorek Ironbrow, who'll lead the Dwarfs with a big emphasis on digging up ancient relics and making the most of runic magic.

Thorek's big unique mechanic has you seeking out relics, which you can locate through a simple menu click. Collect two pieces of a given relic, and you'll get a new passive ability or a special unit. One relic might give a boost to the stats of your ranged units, while another might give you a yoked carnosaur for your Regiments of Renown pool.

Thorek has Fiery Temper, which causes fear and drops the cooldown for the Master Rune of Wrath & Ruin, which causes an armour-piercing explosion. His Klad Brakak hammer gives him immediate access to a bombardment ability and a frenzy augment. His Rune Armour gives bonus armour and flame resistance to allies in a 40 meter range.

Ogre mercenaries are coming free to Total Warhammer 2, with more to come

Just yesterday, Creative Assembly and Sega unveiled the final Total War: Warhammer 2 Lords Pack, The Silence and the Fury, and hinted at some more surprises to come soon. Well, all has now been revealed: Ogre mercenaries are coming to the strategy game for free, and it there are hints that more "might lie in their Kingdom", too.

Alongside the new purchasable Lords Pack, which arrives on July 14, there'll be a Ogre Mercenaries pack coming which you can scoop up for free if you're signed up to Total War Access. This, as you might well be aware, means the Ogres are coming to the Total War: Warhammer series for the very first time, and they'll come in the form of mercenaries - a kind of hireable unit that'll battle on your side "so long as you keep them fed, watered, paid, and in combat".

Ogre camps have a chance of popping up whenever an "act of destruction" occurs, Creative Assembly explains - so, that's whenever battles, sieges, settlement sacking (or razing), and the like happen. You can interact with the camps using your army, then pick the tribe you want to bring on board and set their pay. When they're then made available, you need to recruit them into your chosen army - and then keep them happy to keep them hanging around.

Total Warhammer 2's final Lords Pack brings the long-awaited Ghorgons and Jabberslythes

Back in June, Creative Assembly and Sega announced Total War: Warhammer II's final Lords Pack The Silence and the Fury with a teaser trailer letting us know that, at long last, the Beastmen would be getting some love. The contents of the DLC have been the subject of much speculation in the strategy game's community since then, but now all has been revealed - and there are two new legendary lords, complete with factions and campaigns, and longed-for Ghorgon and Jabberslythe units on the way.

First up, those two new lords. For the much-maligned Beastmen, there's the "rage-filled" Doombull minotaur Taurox, who is forged of "living brass" and is almost invisible to the eye, except for one portion of his meaty neck which is left uncovered, as the studios reveal in a press release. He's both under the allure of and taunted by the Chaos Gods, who urge him towards a ritual that could unleash their powers and see him ascend, if they can be trusted to keep their word. Which they can't. Ever.

For the Lizardmen, there's Oxyotl, who makes up "the silence" bit of the DLC. He's a skink whose strengths hinge on stealth and the ability to sense Chaos. Oxyotl is determined to stop Taurox and his army, and keep the world safe - well, as safe as a world full of ever-battling beasties can be, anyway. He has to "revive Silent Sanctums in the secret places of the world and gain the power needed to stop Taurox," the studios reveal.
