Negotiations with the Dosi have collapsed after discovering they have been detaining traumatized Federation allies as Dosi entertainment. But their promise of a solution for the temporal anomaly crisis remains. Take an elite away team into Dosi space to search for any technology or scientific advancement the Dosi might have that could help in the crisis--and take it by force, if necessary.

While the Dosi may yet have some kind of solution for the temporal anomaly crisis, they do have a dark ulterior motive: traumatized individuals from other timelines who have appeared in their space have proven a source of entertainment for the Dosi, and they are hungry for more--hence their demands that Starfleet prove their toughness.
