5/13/22 Major Chaos Chain Update 1.2.5

Hey everyone! Here is a the next BIG new update for the game. I didn't get every single thing that I wanted to get into this update, but I did include a lot of other new stuff to make up for it. Loot containers now respawn periodically and reposition themselves as well so it is fully randomized, the interface got a nice circuit background overlay, saves from here on out should *mostly* be safe from having to restart due to some extensive reworking of the existing system, item popup messages whenever you gain equipment, and much more! The only thing to be aware of is one of the new quests "Relief Recovery" is not completed yet. Check out the change log below!

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a typo in the intro
  • Fixed a bug where you'd have to press back button twice when exiting world map
  • Fixed some tileset pathing bugs
  • Fixed a rare bug where loot containers could spawn on top of each other
  • Fixed an unreachable container spawn location


Changes & Additions:

  • Updated Rusty's Pawn area to look more like an interior shop area and less like a warehouse
  • Added Condemned Apartments: F1 area (Smugglers' Bend)
  • Added "Working with Scraps" repeatable side quest
  • Added "Relief Recovery" side quest (Not currently finished)
  • "Helping Hands" quest related dropoff dialogues are now instantly displayed so you don't have to wait for each message to appear
  • "Helping Hands" quest item value has been greatly increased so it should be completed roughly twice as fast
  • "Helping Hands" quest goal reduced from 1500 to 1200
  • Dr Cranlin's shop now has much more effective healing items once you complete "Helping Hands"
  • "Closed Circuit" quest related dropoff dialogues are now instantly displayed so you don't have to wait for each message to appear
  • Sidewalks and asphalt are now a bit smoother because the graphics looked a little too rigid
  • Added some extra dialogue options to a few conversations
  • Added lights to Bull's car outside the Views apartments
  • Slightly reduced opacity of menu scan lines so they won't be so dark
  • Player apartment map now has 3 different soundtracks
  • Updated hint in the player apartment for what you need to get before you leave
  • Updated player apartment map slightly
  • Added extra free item to take from the apartment (Nutrient Paste)
  • Popup text now appears whenever you gain an item/equipment/weapon
  • Standardized sound effects for losing/gaining items/equipment/weapons to 3 distict sounds
  • Added 1 more randomized sound effect for equipping items
  • Improved efficiency of money popup handling
  • Quickslot item use popup text color is now green
  • Added subtle chime sound effect to play when transferring between maps
  • Added a circuit board backdrop to the menu skin
  • Added a slight shading effect around the outside of the interface
  • Cleaned up the anarchy symbol face image
  • Mouse improvements on the map screen so that you no longer have to move the mouse in on map screen menus and the cursor will retain it's location in the list if you don't move the mouse from it
  • Reduced noise graphical overlay on several graphics to make them look more pure
  • Added a lot more lootable containers to multiple areas
  • Added fully randomized, fully respawning, fully repositioning loot containers (Respawn to a new location with new contents every 3 game days from the last time you interacted with it or from when they try to generate - 3 hours real time - be careful, you can lose stored items this way unless they're in your stash - this IS intended - your stuff can get stolen)
  • Reintroduced a very small amount of green back into the game's time-based tinting
  • Floating labels above events now have slightly increased opacity to be easier to see and read
  • Added a sound effect to play when you open a container
  • Added a sound effect to play when you close a container
  • Added specific tutorial hint about the stash (Player safe item storage) and lootable containers (Which respawn over time and reset)
  • Added a new lore (Data) item description with a hint about loot containers
  • Baseball bat initiative bonus is now +4 instead of +3
  • Rebalanced pool cue weapon because it was way too OP
  • Updated enemy stats if they had baseball bat weapons
  • Added improvised club melee weapon
  • Added blackjack melee weapon
  • Updated shop listings and made each shop a bit more unique (All shops are now more fitting to their theme and overall, they are more diversified)
  • Added 17 improvised weapons to the random loot tables
  • Added 10 basic armor/equipments to the random loot tables
  • Added special rules regarding loot drops with improvised weapons and basic armor/equipments
  • Updated The Eclipse: Basement area
  • Slightly updated Neko's dialogues
  • Neko's shop lists no longer look like a hardware store (He now only sells weapons that are either legitimately weapons or things that are made to be used as weapons - He's a weapon smuggler, not Home Depot)
  • Added 5 construction worker sprites
  • Added 10 randomized phrases for construction workers
  • Added some construction workers to Smuggler's Bend
  • Increased saturation of all text colors in game by 5%
  • Nikova weapons have been renamed to Novikov


NOTE: You SHOULD NOT need to start a new game. If you encounter issues however, it is probably for the best.

4/29/22 Major Chaos Chain Update 1.2.2

Here is another new update for the game. This update has continued QOL improvements, new content, bug fixes, and more. I also worked on making the mouse a little more accurate in game (cursor positioning) and made some other minor improvements to it as well. Check out the change log below!

What could they want?

Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed some incorrect enemy stats
  • Fixed punching spike stat description not matching actual stat bonuses
  • Fixed taser incorrectly having gun butt skill
  • Fixed some odd tileset pathing issues
  • Fixed a few graphics that had clipping issues
  • Fixed some typos
  • Fixed some text formatting inconsistencies
  • Fixed a bug that was causing enemy placement in battles during testing mode compared to where they actually appear in game to be different
  • Update to the stash system to potentially fix issues with item stacking (Will require a new save, but this update needs a new save anyways so...)


Changes & Additions:
  • Added some new Steam achievements
  • Added "Stubborn Love" 2 to 3 part side quest (A little bit of a romance quest - Quest length depends on choices - It would REALLY help me if people tested this and reported any issues since this is a pretty involved quest with multiple directions/outcomes/ways of finishing it in different cases)
  • Added additional testing functionalities to the game's backend (These are mainly to help me during development, but if you notice anything odd, please let me know)
  • Debugging mode now has access to modify game variables and game switches (Booleans) on the go (F9 key is debugging is activated - you're welcome testers ;-P)
  • Debugging mode can now be toggled directly from the PDA
  • Debugging mode in game now allows you to hold CTRL on the keyboard and walk through/over everything
  • Continue command at the title screen is no longer automatically highlighted if a save file is found (This change is made first to help throughout EA when saves are corrupted by major updates so people don't immediately jump in and experience a crash, but I also made this change because it felt unnecessary to do this to begin with)
  • Added new weather effect variant (Dustfall, this brings the total to weather variants to 21)
  • Added a slight screen shake effect to the intro
  • Added a new randomized travel event
  • Updated the intro slightly
  • Added some new skill/stat checks and uses to certain dialogues and situations
  • Added a new lore (Data) item description (Shorted Souls warning)
  • Added a new battle callout for thugs/bandits
  • Added some Red Saints to Ashen Row (Currently only for show)
  • Added three more main menu soundtracks
  • PDA system root now displays the currently playing soundtrack (So you can know the name to listen to it out of game if you wish)
  • Reduced the pitch of two randomized gameplay soundtracks to match the rest better
  • Added Smugglers' Bend subdistrict area
  • Added Stitchin Time area (Street doc)
  • Added new graphics for quest related NPCs
  • Added a few more protesters to the roadblocks
  • Added some more protester graphics
  • Added a generic sound effect to play periodically at the protests (Angry crowd)

  • Increased base probability of human enemies using their default attacks significantly

  • Updated brass knuckles icon image to actually be brass colored (Whoops)
  • Changed some menu wordage to be more clear (Specifically in the Squad section)
  • Disabled a few random soundtracks (They didn't fit the theme well enough)
  • Mouse cursor saturation increased slightly
  • Minor adjustments to the mouse system to improve functionality and accuracy (This is actually a really huge, really nice change because it makes the mouse MUCH more accurate in selectable windows)
  • Slightly increased the brightness of the display window in combat
  • Other minor adjustments and tweaks throughout the game


NOTE: YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO START A NEW GAME. Too much has changed for old saves to work properly.

4/20/22 Chaos Chain Dev Update

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying the most recent update from last week. Since then, I have been working on adding new areas and coming up with new quests/plots as well as adding new equipment and items!

The next update will be a bit before it's ready, but I just wanted to post some screenshots of the new subdistrict, Smugglers' Bend. It's not finished yet, but the main layout is completed. It connects Ashen Row and Crescent Strip, but it's a dangerous area that is known for its high criminal activity. I have a lot of ideas and plans for the area, and it adds quite a bit of room for new content, so that is a plus.

I'm trying to build out the game world a bit more right now before continuing on the main quest for those wondering. It's important for me to have plenty of map space and play area to work with to put everything into perspective and be able to create further content. With that said, let's take a look at Smugglers' Bend.

(Intro): "Though the area is typically referred to as 'Smugglers' Bend', the real name of this subdistrict is 'Ashen Bend'. The nickname stems from the fact that the place is commonly used as a hideout for smugglers and criminals on the run from the authorities, who don't commonly venture through here unless absolutely necessary..."

Once I finish the area, I'm going to populate it with plenty of stuff to do including new quests, NPCs to interact with, and more as usual. Hopefully, I can also get started on one of the next main districts like The Warrens. It just all depends on how long it takes to finish and fill Smugglers' Bend. I'll keep you all posted.
