Into the Caves – Weekly Update

[p]Hey everyone,[/p][p]@iENDERi here! Just wanted to drop in with a quick peek at what I’ve been working on in Adventure Craft this week.[/p][p][/p][p]Lately I’ve been deep in the underground cave system. Like the rest of the game, a lot of the original artwork has been touched up, polished, and expanded so the caves should feel way more fun to explore in the next release. I know some of you probably liked the old look, but over the 10 years I’ve been doing pixel art my style has shifted a lot, and I think this new version really fits where the game is heading.[/p][p][/p][p]This footage was captured from the iPad version of the game, which is being developed alongside the PC version. That’s why the resolution is lower and there’s no sound in this clip. For now, I just wanted to share a little progress update to keep you in the loop.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]Thanks as always for following the journey—more to come soon![/p][p]@iENDERi[/p]

Current Status of Adventure Craft

[p]Hi everyone, @iENDERi here – creator of Adventure Craft.[/p][p]I recently returned to the discussion pages for Adventure Craft after being away for a while, and I’ve seen some negative comments about the lack of communication here on Steam — including suggestions that the game might be abandoned or “dead.” I want to take full responsibility for that. I should have been posting regular updates here on Steam to show how development was progressing. I understand the negative effect my silence has had on the community, and I sincerely apologize. I’m still learning, and this is something I’m determined to improve.[/p]

Is the game abandoned?
[p]Absolutely not. Adventure Craft has been in full-time development since the last update. I’ve been dedicating 100% of my time to development work — but out of habit, I’ve been posting updates on X instead of here. In hindsight, that was a mistake, because Steam is where our core audience is. I love this project too much to abandon it, and I’m committed to seeing it through to the end.[/p]

Why no update yet?
[p]Progress has been slower than I’d like because our team is just one full-time developer (me) and one programmer, and the project is completely unfunded. After the last update, I realized many systems needed to be rebuilt so the game could scale up properly and become more robust. We also decided to add a major new feature, which turned out to be a much bigger undertaking than I’d initially anticipated.[/p]

The current state of Adventure Craft
[p]The good news is: the current build is playable again. I can now start sharing more game play directly. I recently upgraded my PC and picked up new audio/video equipment and software so I can stream myself playing the game, giving you all a closer look at development in action.[/p][p]Here’s a recent video of me playing the game, along with some other debugging clips.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]From now on, I’ll be posting updates here on Steam more regularly — so if you’ve been wondering where the game stands, you won’t have to look anywhere else.[/p][p][/p][p]Thanks for sticking with me,[/p][p]@iENDERi[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you so much for supporting the game all this time – it means more than you know.[/p][p][/p]

Update 1.24 (Sound Effects)

Being one of only two people working on this game has required me to wear many hats over the years. Which is good because I love hats.

But one hat that I haven't worn in a long time was the sound effects hat. This is sad because sound effects have such a huge effect on how a game feels. Sound connects the player to the world in a way that only it can. It brings personality to the game world and communicates more to the player in many cases than the visuals alone allowing the player to feel more connected to the world.

The content in the game has grown considerably over time and was in dire need of many more sounds. We didn't have enough time to include the sound update in 1.23 so we decided to complete it now before we move on to other things. So I'm very happy to report that we have added a ton of new sounds to many aspects of the game for version 1.24

Sound design is not really my area of expertise however I have attempted to really immerse myself into the process and have worked to try and pick nice quality sounds that enrich the game experience. I also have had a close friend who is learning the sound engineering ropes lending me a hand. The initial results have felt very good and have made the game world feel much richer and more alive, and also much more humorous at times.

We have updated many aspects of the sound effects including...

Characters Idle Sounds
Each character in Adventure Craft has a slot for multiple Idle sounds. This is a collection of sounds that they can make when they are just hanging around, helping the player to become aware of their presence. We had a look at nearly every character and faction and have updated their sounds to give them more personality.

So now for example when you are near Punks you will hear them make little Negative "Heh"s or when you are near Special Forces you will hear their radio chatter calling out Bravo! Echo! etc. Cockroaches and spiders hiss and skitter and Lumberjack Mechs rev their chainsaw engines.

More dangerous enemies like werewolves have a warning sound slot, so you may hear a howling sound when one is near.

Character Attacks
We have updated many enemy attacks to have new sounds like slicing sharp blade noises and crunchy and booming impacts to bring extra impact and weight to their attacks.

Weapons
We have updated the swinging and impact sounds for many weapons so that hitting someone over the head with a pipe sounds different than hitting them over the head with a wooden sword.

And there is more to come.

It is still a work in progress so there is plenty of room for further improvement so please leave me any feedback about how the game sounds now so that we can continue to enhance the sound over future updates.

Old save wont load file fix, and partial sound update!

Hi Everyone,

We have just updated the game with a fix that should resolve an issue where old save games couldn't be loaded.

In addition to this, we have been working on a bunch of new sound effects for characters. And checking for missing sounds and filling them all in. This sound update is still a work in progress and will most likely receive a few additional updates over the next couple of days. The sound update will mostly affect animal characters atm, then expanding into all monsters, NPC's, weapons, and attacks.

The game's music is also muted atm because of the sound work but the music will return in the next update.

This sound update is a work in progress so if there are any issues please let us know in the comments section.
