This Myst has been fully redesigned and created from the ground up using the Unreal Engine, the same engine we used on Obduction. Many of the puzzles have been reimagined and engineered to include optional puzzle randomization and also keep accessibility in mind.

This documentary aims to reveal the untold story behind Myst

A new Kickstarter launched today for a documentary film on Myst, the landmark 1993 adventure game that helped popularize the CD-ROM format and changed the way people thought about videogames. The film tells the story of brothers Rand and Robyn Miller, who created Myst together in a double-wide trailer home in rural Washington state.

Myst was a smash hit, capturing the attention of Apple's Steve Jobs as well as mainstream media. Brooklyn-based filmmaker Philip Shane met the Miller brothers in 2016 and pitched them the idea of a documentary, and the project has evolved to take in not only the development of Myst, but also some of the contemporaneous tech that made the game possible: Quicktime, Hypercard (a linking format which led to the popularization of hypertext in web development in the 1990s), the Macintosh, and Strata Pro 3D graphics software.

Shane has shot some 100 hours' worth of preliminary footage at Cyan's studios in Washington, and plans on using funds from the Kickstarter to support full production on what looks to be a fascinating slice of games and personal computing history.

Quick update for languages on MacOS

Hey all!

We just pushed out a small and quick update for Myst:ME on MacOS. All of the supported languages should now work again on the current OS release.

Thanks to everyone for the reports and everyone's patience while we got this fixed up!

Myst 25th Anniversary Update

Thank you for your patience while we were getting this update for Myst: Masterpiece Edition ready for Steam! Thanks too for your support of our games.

We have been working to ready all of the games in the Myst series for the 25th Anniversary of Myst, which happens later this month. Most of the games in the series required compatibility updates, but Myst and Riven needed more than that to run reliably on modern day computers. We partnered up with the ScummVM team and have worked closely with them to bring you this updated version of Myst. Since the game is powered by ScummVM, the user interface looks different than the original release, but has most of the same functionality.

Should you have something you would like to report regarding Myst: Masterpiece Edition, please contact us directly at [email protected]. We would be happy to assist you.

We hope you enjoy playing Myst again :)

Thank you!
The Cyan Worlds Team

Release Notes:

Myst: Masterpiece Edition is now available in 5 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Polish. Select the language option of your choice from the menu that appears when you launch the game.

Windows 10 compatibility update

Random crashing fixed!

Known Issues:

The graphics have not been remastered, so there will be a variance in the quality of the appearance of the graphics depending on the size of the display being used. The game starts out in full-screen and can be put into a scalable window by using the Alt+Enter command. Being able to adjust the scaling of the window will help to improve the clarity of the graphics.

Opening sequence book/cursor layering issue: The cursor never appears on top of closed Myst book, nor does it appear when it is open and the fly-by is playing. If you click during the fly-by (no cursor present) you do link to the dock. If you wait for the fly-by to quit playing, the cursor will appear on top of the Myst book and can be used. This behavior is the same as was in the released box edition of the game.

Under some conditions, the user cannot close the map screen with the Esc key. In this case, you will need to click on the map screen itself in order to close it.
