Hi Chefs!
You guys are showing great interest in the upcoming Cakes and Cookies expansion, so to give you more insight into the upcoming features, we’ll release a few more detailed posts.📝 This is the first one. This week, we’d like to tell you a little bit about the process of creating your very own pastries. In the next week’s post we’ll explain how the new tag system works and how it allows to bake and sell pretty much whatever you want without following any strict recipes.
Also, a quick reminder that
this Friday at 6PM CEST there will be a new developer livestream showcasing all the cool new features of the expansion. If you’d like to see how various cakes and cookies are being made in a professional confectionery, make sure you don’t miss it! The stream will be available on the game’s Steam store page. See you soon :)
The process of creating any pastry in Cakes and Cookies consists of 3 phases: preparing the dough, baking and decorating. At first you’ll need to decide what type of dough you want to make. Basically, you can choose between following an existing recipe or using the variety of new ingredients to create something your own. Recipe based doughs will receive categories such as brownie, cheesecake, etc. while your own creations will be tagged as homemade.🏷️
Now that you’ve decided on the type of dough, it is time to collect all the ingredients and put them into a bowl. Speaking of ingredients, there’s a ton of fresh stuff including a new category - loose products. That means things like different types of flour, biscuit crumbs, cocoa and more!

Additionally, there are also new liquid and solid ingredients such as extracts and syrups, a few kinds of chocolate, baker’s yeast, cream cheese, eggs and butter, just to name a few. You should also know that it’s possible to melt some of that stuff!

Once you got everything in one place it is time to choose between 3 different kneading tips, attach the bowl to the kneading machine, turn it on and let it do it’s magic. As a result you’ll receive either a solid dough or a liquid batter, depending on the bowl’s contents.

There’s plenty of cake pans available, so the next step is choosing the one you like. Star-shaped, heart-shaped, square, oval, big or small, cake or cupcake and the list goes on! The batter is only good for larger creations such as cakes while the dough fits everywhere. Aside from the dough, some recipes might require preparing additional layers of filling, which are made using a kneading machine just like doughs.

After you’ve got your pan filled up, you should set the right time and temperature and slide it into the oven. Depending on your settings and the cake size, the results will vary from an unbaked cake through sad cake to a properly baked one, of course you can also burn your cake. Moreover, if you really try, you can have your cake burnt on the outside, while still raw on the inside! This will influence the final customers’ reactions (more on that in the next week's post).

When your cake is fresh out of the oven it is time for the most fun part - decorating. There’s a certain flow to this that determines the order in which the actions can be performed. You can start off by stuffing the cake using a pastry pistol. There’s plenty of different fillings you can choose from. After adding that extra tasty punch to your cake it is time to take your confectionery spatula and apply some thick frosting or thinner icing. You can smear your cakes both on the top and on the sides, allowing you for some fancy colour combinations. There are many types of preset frosting and icings you can use but you can also use food dyes to create your own. Food dyes can be mixed together to generate even more colours. The idea of having all the colours of the rainbow at your disposal sounds pretty cool, right?🌈

But wait, there’s more! After you’re done with all the smearing, you can stack up to 3 cakes on top of each other and turn them into a one that’s more massive and fancier. Now grab your scoop and add some topping or dusting. Once again, you can choose from a variety of ingredients like chopped nuts, raisins, jelly beans, cocoa, cinnamon, and many, many more!

One of the last steps is adding some cream on the top layer. The new tool allows you to do it manually, so you’ll be able to come up with your own patterns and drawings. Hopefully, you’ll keep it civil, guys :)

The final touch is decorating the cake using fruits and figurines. There are some fruits available from the base game and there are some new ones as well. When it comes to figurines we’ve tried to include as many as possible: digits, animals, people, flowers, etc.
They’ll also come in different colour variations!

And that’s it! Following these steps will allow you to prepare some amazing sweet desserts. Let us know, how you like those new ideas and what cakes are you going to make🧁🍰🍪
If you’d like to see some baking in action, don’t forget about tomorrow’s livestream at 6PM CEST on the game’s Steam store page. Happy cooking!
