Beta 13.9 - Chinese and Turkish

Today's update includes localized text for Chinese and Turkish. HammerHelm is now playable in eleven languages! This concludes the first round of language updates. If we add more languages I will let you know!





In addition, this build updates the key mapping system to swap keys when a key is already in use rather than disallowing the mapping of a key that is already mapped.

Beta 13.8.1 - Localization Updates

Tonight's build updates some text that weren't connected to the localization system:
  • Added the achievements to the localization system.
  • Added the default town name "Your Town" to the localization system.
  • Added the words "Skill Points" in the Inventory UI to the localization system.

Beta 13.8 - Optimizations and More

Today's build includes a big update to the way trees and other natural objects are drawn in the game. The trees, bushes, and rocks are all updated and overall this change should provide a nice framerate boost.

In addition this update also includes:
  • Optimized some of the monsters that use different colored clothing (such as the Ratmen and Goblins) to denote warriors vs. spell casters.
  • Optimized the Storehouse, Wooden House, Stone House, and Stone wall.
  • Updated localized text to include new translations.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Brightness slider to not respond to controller input.
  • Based on feedback, I changed the way the camera speed is changed in build mode. Holding down left shift will increase the camera speed. Also increased the top speed of the camera.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the arrow keys and the controller right stuck to fail to rotate the character properly in character creation.


I'm also working on another optimization similar to the monsters. This one will affect your character and the NPCs and will lower the memory footprint of all of the tunic, hair, and beard options while also making it easier for me to add more color options without affecting memory nearly as much.



I did a test with the male tunics and I'm pretty happy with the results. The left Dwarf is the current system, on the right is the optimized system. The only noticeable difference is the green shirt, which is the original color the artist made for the shirts before I made them colorable. This update makes it stand out a bit less from the other tunics.

I'm going to test this out the female tunics as well as all of the hair and beards and if all looks good I'll have this ready fairly soon. I might add some more hair and beard color options at the same time since this new system makes that easier to do. This change also makes creating white tunics, hair, and beards possible which I think could be pretty cool!

Beta 13.7 - Japanese and Russian

Today's build unlocks Japanese and Russian. HammerHelm is now playable in nine languages, with two more going live next week!

Beta 13.6 - More Controller Improvements

A bunch of controller improvements and fixes in today’s build!
  • You can now place furniture using the A button.
  • When mapping controls you will have the option to swap buttons rather than having to manually remap an input that was already in use.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to save and go back to the title screen or save and go to desktop while in the controller mapping UI. This appeared to be a crash but was actually the “Escape” menu buttons still being active while in the control mapper UI.
  • You can now use the horizontal d-pad to switch between Dwarves when in the Choose Dwarf UI.
  • The Invert Right Stick toggle now works as intended.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the controller to continue to move the list of buildings in the Build UI when either moving a building or while in building management mode.
  • Tweaked a variety of controls to ensure when moving the left and right stick a slight amount doesn’t count as an input. Basically, this is to stop the controller from thinking you moved left when you move the stick up and happen to unintentionally move it left just a little bit.
  • The left stick can now be used to move buildings and the road placement tool.
  • Fixed a bug that caused controller input to fail when trying to close the “How to Fight” UIs.

This build also fixes a bug that caused monsters to fail to attack if you died and then went back to fight them.

Right now, I'm focusing a lot on bug fixing and improvements. Also working on some more memory and framerate optimizations that are pretty encouraging. Should have more info on those soon!
