75th D-Day anniversary

Attention Generals!

Today we celebrate a turning point of World War II. The 75th anniversary of D-Day, when allied forces started the Normandy landing as part of Operation Overlord to free German occupied France with the largest seaborne invasion in history.

To commemorate this special occasion an altered version of our 1944: End Game event will be available, which reflects the situation in Europe on June 6th 1944. The event runs from Thursday, June 6th 2019 at 11 am CEST until Tuesday, June 11th at 11 am CEST.

We wish you good luck and much fun!

Paratroopers darken the skies

Dear Generals,
we know that many of you have been waiting for this moment for a long time and finally it has come! The Bytro team is very proud to introduce the new Paratrooper unit to live servers!

Paratroopers are deployed as airplanes which can take off from any airport controlled by a player. After attacking a land target, the airplane converts to a Paratrooper Infantry on the ground. Once converted into a Paratrooper Infantry the unit cannot be converted back into an airplane.

This unique unit will allow you to use a new set of strategies! Surprise your opponents and sneak up on them. Drop Paratroopers in lightly guarded or unguarded strategically valuable provinces to conquer them and their resources as fast as possible. You can also drop them behind enemy lines to open a second front and allow your forces to re-group and fight back even harder!

With the release of the new Paratroopers we implement some additional changes to Call of War:

Another major change is a reduction of victory points needed to win the game. In order to make end game battles even more fierce and meaningful we adjusted the victory conditions for single and team/coalition victories. To reach a solo victory you now only need 51% instead of the previous 60% victory points. Victory points needed for teams/coalitions have been reduced from 80% to 70% as well. We also lowered the victory requirement for 2-team maps and 1on1 maps from 90% to 80%.

Last but not least… rewards for all!

With the release of the new Paratroopers we are introducing additional victory rewards for all participants of a game round. Not only did we increase existing victory reward payouts, but added a fixed gold bonus for all participants of games who survived until the end and stayed active. So even if it seems that you are not able to win the game anymore, there is still some reward waiting for you at the end! The new gold rewards can be seen in the Newspaper tab "Rewards".

Further Balancing Changes:
  • manpower costs for Militia and Infantry units are reduced to 1300 instead of 1500 previously

All these changes will affect new games only.

We hope you like the changes and that the new Paratroopers allow you to become even more successful on the battlefield!

Paratroopers are coming!

Dear Generals,

We are excited to make a special announcement today: Paratroopers are finally coming to Call of War! Many of you asked for it for a long time, and we were listening.

Paratroopers could change the way Call of War is played in a major way, so they have to be implemented with care. We value the opinions and concerns of our players and don’t want to rush this. That’s why Paratroopers will be tested by our Frontline Pioneers in Beta games for several weeks. This gives us the opportunity to collect feedback and make necessary balancing adjustments, to make sure that they are neither too powerful nor too useless.

If you are one of the randomly selected Frontline Pioneers you can test Paratroopers in all Beta games right now! We will create additional Beta rounds, including speed rounds, for faster testing. You can send us your feedback in the Frontline Pioneer forum section or via submitting a support ticket from your Beta game. We will also create a feedback form that we will share in the Beta game notifications.

Final balancing values will be shared with the next release news, as they are subject to change during the Beta test. But we still want to give you a glimpse of how Paratroopers will work in the game, as the functionality is set:
  • Can only be built in the Capital.
  • Has high cost and high build requirements.
  • Is initially an airplane that can start from any airport.
  • Paratrooper airplane has low hitpoints and comparatively small range.
  • Can attack land targets: Airplane is replaced with a Paratrooper Infantry on the target location.
  • Paratrooper Infantry has a long cooldown period before it can start moving.
  • Paratrooper Infantry has slightly better stats than Infantry but moves slower.
  • Paratrooper Infantry can not be converted to an airplane again.

With this design we hope to enable new strategies, like invading islands off the coast or special operations behind enemy lines, while still making it a risky and costly choice with enough possibilities for the defender to protect themselves.

When Paratroopers are released in the near future, we will make them available only in new game rounds that are created after the release. This is to make sure that we don’t interfere with your ongoing war efforts and strategies.

We hope that you are as excited as we are about the future addition of this unit and look forward to its release in the upcoming weeks!

Hot Winter Update - Release news from January 22nd 2019

Dear Generals,

With this release we are bringing you some hot and new improvements which are much needed in this cold season! Now you are finally able to experience all of our convenient coalition features in team games as well, including a shared chat for all team members. We even added some additional features to make playing in teams or coalitions a better experience.
We also fulfilled another big request: You can now use the handy Event log in the PC version of Call of War. In it you can see a list of what happened in your game round, even while you were offline!
But that is not all, we released even more improvements, including a graphics update in the WebGL renderer, new loading screens and a new language option in the mobile version, as well as many bug fixes. Be sure to check out the detailed summary of all features and fixes below!

See below a detailed list of all changes and improvements:

Team & coalition games

Enabled shared team chat and diplomatic team conversation in team games.
Enabled automatic transferal of re-conquered allied core provinces to the original owner in team games.
Enabled shared team victory rewards and achievements in team games.
Anti betrayal measures: Players of a team or a coalition can no longer change their relation to members of other teams or coalitions to anything better than peace (e.g. shared map is not possible).
Team players who become inactive no longer degrade their relation to Right of Way but stay at Shared map at all times.
Removed team balancer: Players can now choose their team freely and don’t need to even out teams in the selection process.
In team games solo victory points and solo rewards are no longer displayed in the Newspaper, as they are not used.

Graphics improvements

Implemented awesome new loading screen layout and pictures.
Finally! Province names are now displayed again for all provinces in the WebGL renderer (you may need to toggle them on in the game settings).
Implemented 3D relief for map terrain in WebGL renderer for more immersion.
Improved color palette of the morale view option in the WebGL renderer. Look at this lush green map!

General improvements:

Implemented the ingame event log in the PC version, which lists all events, including those that happen while players are not online.
Upcoming and current Event maps are now advertised at the top of the main website in the PC version, including a timer which shows the sign-up period. Click on the new event tiles to get more details on each event, as event details will no longer be posted in the general news. Brand new event maps are coming very soon!
Players can now switch their language in the settings menu in the mobile app of Call of War.
Players now drop out of games within 10 minutes instead of 60 minutes when not choosing a country, to prevent blocking game starts for too long.
Added line breaks for long button texts in the mobile interface to make them readable.
Added support button on the website in the mobile version so that mobile users can write tickets outside of their game rounds.
Added a flag and info popup for beta games (frontline pioneer games) to make it more clear that these are test games.
Improved unit positioning and selection in WebGL renderer.

Bug fixes:

There was a common issue where players could seemingly buy something from the stock market but did not receive the resources. This could happen when someone else bought the offer faster than the player, before the market interface was refreshed. In that case the money was deducted by a “buy offer” which was placed in the market instead of buying the resource. The market now refreshes much more often to prevent this issue.
Fixed a case where push notifications could not be sent in the iOS version.
Players of anonymous rounds are no longer revealed in push notification texts.
Fixed incorrect timestamps in the event log on speed maps or when speeding up constructions.
Research times are now displayed correctly again on speed maps in the mobile version.
Trade offers are now using the correct real timestamp instead of the ingame time in Speed maps.
Fixed an issue for some players where the toggle option for the WebGL renderer was not visible in the game settings.

Since this was a big release, there can be some hiccups, which will be fixed swiftly afterwards. We hope you all like the changes in this huge update! Tell us your favourite part in the forum comments!
