Splitgate dev drastically shortens queue times and increases server capacity




People are going nuts over Splitgate's open beta, reaching new record numbers of concurrent players every day. But the arena shooter's popularity has come at a cost, with queue times quickly exceeding 90 minutes. Now developer 1047 Games has announced that due to a breakthrough trying to increase server capacity, queue times are now down to 5 minutes on average, and 30 minutes at most, though things may look slightly different over the weekend when even more players join the game...

Portal shooter Splitgate’s servers problems have been solved for now

Splitgate’s twist on the arena shooter, where players can cast portals around the levels and pull off impossible shots, saw a spike in the free FPS’ popularity when it released into beta on consoles (PC has had it since 2019). It was so popular that it basically killed the game for a few weeks because the servers were overwhelmed. With an hour-long queue reported to get into a short game of shoot-the-mans, I haven’t had the chance to try.


Thankfully, that seems to have been fixed with an update yesterday. With new funding, the game’s server capacity and support has been upgraded. The current player count on Steam is about 61,000, and I experienced no queue when I just tried to get in.

Splitgate is still so slammed that it has a new server status Twitter account


As we learned a week ago, portaling FPS Splitgate was so popular during its open beta phase that 1047 Games had to extend the beta and delay launch. They're currently attempting to expand their servers and fit over 100,000 players. At the moment, interest in Splitgate is still outpacing their ability to expand, with queue times hitting 90 minutes yesterday. 1047 are now tracking server and queue status on Twitter while they work to keep up and say they are "working our tails off."

Splitgate gets an extended Beta, developers raise $10M

1047 Games has seen Splitgate blow away all of their expectations, so much so they had to take the game offline (it's back now) and extend the Beta.
