Outriders reached more than 3.5 million players in its first month

Sci-fi co-op game Outriders may have run into some snags during its debut, but that hasn't kept it from being a hit. Square Enix says Outriders was played by more than 3.5 million unique players during its first month, with about 31 hours average playtime. It was Square Enix's biggest Steam launch ever, and that's not counting the players who picked it up on the Epic Games Store.

"Launching a new game IP is never easy and we remain very grateful for the community's support and feedback," said Jon Brooke, co-head of studio at Square Enix External Studios. "We continue to listen carefully and want to assure everyone that we are committed to improving and enhancing the experience in the coming weeks and months."

Brooke hinted at new content in the works for the sci-fi game. "We also look forward to expanding on Outriders in the future," he said, without going into any specifics. For the past weeks, People Can Fly has been busy working on several crucial bug fixes, as well as on the restoration process for lost legendary gear, which finally got underway at the beginning of May. Another patch is tentatively planned for May 20, which will address a damage mitigation issue as well as some remaining crashes.

Inventory Restoration Now Rolling Out

Character and Inventory Restoration is now underway.

The process will complete over the next 24 hours.

As a reminder, there are two different restorations:
GROUP A
Group A characters are those characters who encountered a wipe and are no longer able to login at this point in time (Encounter a "Couldn't Connect to Server" error).

As a reminder, here is what you can expect to happen:
  • Group A Restoration:
    • All items, regardless of rarity, that were equipped at the time of your inventory wipe will be restored.
    • All legendary items that were in your inventory.
    • For non-Legendary items: 20 previously acquired items that were in your inventory, with first prioritization based on rarity (descending from Epic rarity) and second prioritization based on date acquired.
GROUP B
Who will benefit from this Restoration?
  • Players in both Group B and C who "lost" a legendary item up until 20 April 2021.
    • Group B are characters that lost gear but were still playable. Players may have continued playing on these characters since the wipe.
    • Group C are essentially all other players in the Outriders gaming population who did not encounter an inventory wipe.
As a reminder, here is what you can expect to happen:
  • Group B Restoration:
    • Up to 20 legendary items there were in your inventory.
    • Please see the further details post for more info here.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: As we are unable to conclusively distinguish Group B from Group C players, both Group B and Group C will benefit from the Restoration. Therefore, even if you did NOT encounter an inventory wipe, you may well receive up to 20 God Rolled Legendary Items that you may have previously lost to a bug or sold to a vendor (Dismantled items will not be restored as our analytics are able to conclusively prove that they were not lost to the bug).

The above explains where the additional God Rolled Legendary Items come from that you may find in your inventory following our restoration process today. These items can be freely sold, scrapped or used.

Please review our Further Details post to better understand the details of this restoration.
Further Notes:
• Please check your affected characters throughout the next few hours. If your character has not yet been restored, please be patient a little while longer as it may take a little time for the process to propagate across all affected characters.
  • Please keep in mind that we may not able to restore every single lost item with 100% accuracy, but we are doing our best to make sure the most valuable items are accounted for.
  • If your inventory is already full, restored items will be held server side until there is space in your inventory and you have logged out and back in again.

Finally, we would like to thank you for patience and support while we worked hard to bring this restoration about. While it has taken longer than initially anticipated or planned, we never once wavered from our commitment to support those players who were affected.

We will soon be turning our attention to the community appreciation packs that were previously announced. We are also currently gathering info on the damage mitigation issue here and are furthermore continuing to investigate reported multiplayer connection issues.

Outriders' inventory restoration is finally underway

You should start to notice some of your lost loot coming back to you in Outriders if you were affected by one of the game's nasty loot-wiping bugs. Square Enix has taken to Reddit to let players know that the game's inventory restoration is now rolling out.

Right now, the publisher is focusing on players it has put into Group A. That's people who encountered a wipe and are no longer able to log in, which may be you if you're getting a "couldn't connect to server" error message. The process takes a while, so keep checking back if you haven't got your stuff back yet.

You should get all the items you had equipped at the time of your inventory wipe back, regardless of rarity. That means all the legendary items in your inventory alongside the 20 previously acquired non-legendary items you had on you. Square Enix explains that it's prioritising those 20 items on descending Epic rarity and the date you got them. Square Enix will also restore all of your fully completed accolades if you reached the final tier of them.
