Outriders gets a patch for the dreaded inventory wipe bug

The inventory-wiping bug that's been plaguing online co-op game Outriders has been addressed in a patch, which is available now. Between the client-side patch released today and some server-side adjustments made over the past weekend, Square Enix says Outriders players shouldn't be seeing the dreaded bug any more - but that lost items will have to be restored in a separate process in the future.

The Outriders inventory bug seemed to be happening when the game crashed during online co-op sessions, and the result was a clean sweep of players' inventories - sometimes wiping out their carefully collected and meticulously crafted high-tier gear. Square Enix says it's "confident that the patch will prevent inventory wipes in future," but that it will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend to make sure things are stable before opening up the restoration process for lost items.

"As soon as we are satisfied by the patch's effectiveness, we will share extra details including timelines of our upcoming Inventory Restoration process," the developer said, adding that any further instances of the inventory wipe bug should be reported in an 'Edge Case Reporting thread' on the game's Steam forum.

Outriders has been updated - 15.04.2021

Hello Everyone,

We have just released a new patch that addresses the bug that has, since the previous update, been causing the inventories of certain players to be wiped.

If your inventory has been impacted, please note that our efforts to restore your items are a separate process from today’s released patch. Restoring the inventory of affected players is still our highest priority, while today’s patch is intended to prevent the issue from continuing to occur. The restoration process is run via our server database and does not require a patch to be implemented. We will have news of this very soon.
IMPORTANT:
• With this new patch, some players may occasionally encounter multiplayer connectivity issues followed by inventory items being momentarily invisible. This is a known and only temporary behaviour that is part of our three-step inventory safeguarding measures.
    • Restarting your game or waiting a few minutes and then restarting your game should make your items appear again.
  • We aim to address the occurrence of these edge cases in a future patch.
  • If you do encounter a wipe that occurs after installing the patch and is not resolved following a game restart, please immediately report this in this Edge Case reporting-thread.

While we are confident that the patch will prevent inventory wipes in future, we do want to use the weekend to continue monitoring the situation and ensure that no more players are encountering any related issues before we move onto the restoration process.

As soon as we are satisfied by the patch’s effectiveness, we will share extra details including timelines of our upcoming Inventory Restoration process.

While our teams have mainly focused on preventing any further inventory wipes, we have also continued to look at ways of improving our restoration process. We will update you with these final details as soon as we have tested it and confirmed what is possible.

For any affected characters currently encountering a “Couldn’t Connect to Server”: these characters will have their inventories returned and they will become fully playable again as soon as our restoration process has completed.

Please keep an eye out for our upcoming announcements regarding restoration and other Outriders related news updates.

Outriders missions guide - main quest list and all side quest locations

Want to know how many missions there are in Outriders? This looter-shooter has a fair amount of stuff to do before the all-important Outriders endgame - where all the best loot is - so it's only reasonable to want to know how far away you are from that point. It'll take the average player roughly 25-30 hours to finish the main campaign.

While the main missions are rather self-explanatory, there are a few different types of side quests available. Alongside the more traditional missions, there are also several wanted posters, bone piles, and historical trinkets to investigate - and doing so nets you some rather awesome rewards. Make sure you complete some of these at a high world tier to grab some valuable Outriders legendary weapons or even some Outriders legendary armor!

So if you need to know how many more missions you need to play before you enter the endgame, this guide will list every single main story mission, and just for good measure, every side quest location as well.

Wondering how to access the Outriders Forgotten Chapel quest? There's plenty of content to sink your teeth into in People Can Fly's RPG shooter, and once you've finished the Outriders story missions, you'll probably want to whack up the difficulty and challenge yourself on higher Outriders world tiers in search of glorious loot.

Even when you think you've polished off the story, if you're just shy of 100% completion, there's a side quest you may have missed. This hidden side quest is called Forgotten Chapel, and completing it gives you a random legendary - fingers crossed that it drops one of the best Outriders Legendary weapons or Outriders legendary armor pieces for you.

This side quest is hidden away relatively late in the game, during the 'Sacrifice' mission that sees you explore the Canyon of the Grand Obelisk. The Outriders Forgotten Chapel quest is not repeatable - once you've got your legendary from the quest, that's your lot. If you want a legendary with better stats, it's best to wait until you can complete this quest on a higher world tier. Here's how to unlock the secret Outriders quest, Forgotten Chapel.
