Outriders' next patch is delayed while the devs hunt crashes

A new patch was due out for sci-fi co-op game Outriders yesterday, but it's been held up by some troublesome new crashes that have cropped up as the developers finalise the update. Now, People Can Fly is asking players to help determine whether the crashes are pre-existing issues or if they're problems introduced by the upcoming patch.

In a post to the Outriders subreddit, People Can Fly explain that testers have run into two main issues with the latest patch. In rare cases, the devs say, Outriders would crash on launch. After a certain number of crashes, the game would launch normally and the crash would not reoccur.

The second issue is another crash, which happens when players return to the Outriders lobby after finishing a multiplayer session. The studio's current theory is that this is tied to the Pyromancer class, and happens when specific skills and mods are equipped. However, it's not clear yet why these crashes are happening, or whether they're issues with the patch or that have been present in the live build of Outriders for some time.

Outriders just got a patch for one of its most annoying bugs

Outriders just got a chonky (3.4 GB on Steam) patch, which as promised makes some welcome improvements to its loot system. The rate for legendary item drops has been doubled, for example, and developer People Can Fly has reworked the luck system. But now that the patch notes are here, we're thrilled to see that one of the co-op game's most annoying bugs has finally been squashed: you no longer will have 'new item' notifications on everything in your inventory each time you open it up.

We can't speak for other players, but there's something about having 'unread notifications' in a game that's inherently stress-inducing. Just as they are in other apps, these little bubbles or indicators are designed to draw your attention to something. In Outriders, they appear as little yellow-coloured corner markers on items you've just picked up. Once you've moused over the item, the indicator goes away. The problem is that the game has been marking everything you're carrying with them each time you open your inventory - prompting us to mouse over every item we're carrying each time we pop open that screen.

The 'General Patch Notes' section of the update, which you can read in full on the Outriders subreddit, includes this line: "Fixed an issue that was causing old inventory items to be marked as new." Phew!
We’re making some changes to the Legendary Drops.
• Legendary Drop Rates, across the board, have been increased by 100%
  • Legendary Level Brackets have been removed, so that all Legendary items can drop at any level.
    • Previously, some items could only drop from enemies of certain levels or above. For example, the Ugake Cowl could only drop from enemies of level 48 or higher.
  • Legendary Anti-Duplication System implemented
    • This system will mean that if a character has an item in their inventory or stash and a duplicate item is rolled, the dropped item will be re-rolled once.
    • Note that this system does not guarantee that every drop will be unique. Rather, it is designed to provide a second roll at avoiding a duplicate.
  • Scripted Boss Loot (Chrysaloid, Yagak) are now able to drop all non-class specific Legendary Helmets
    • This change will improve the variety of items in the Campaign.
    • Previously, these bosses would only drop a selection of Legendaries (the same pool that was available in the Demo as well as the Cannonball Helmet).
  • The Luck system has been improved and players should no longer experience very long droughts without a Legendary item dropped during endgame.
    • The base scaling of Legendaries dropping through higher difficulty levels still applies, so you may will still want to farm as high as possible.
General Patch Notes
• Made improvements to multiplayer connectivity
  • Fixed an issue that was causing old inventory items to be marked as new.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from running if they were stunned while using the Trickster's Cyclone skill.
  • Earthborn Gear / Hell's Ranger DLC equipment can now be scrapped
  • [EDIT for clarity] Fixed a bug that allowed a combination of two closely timed attacks to result in visual one-hit kill on players, from Alpha Perforo's and Behemoths / Brood Mothers
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Scrap Grenade projectile to be blocked by dead enemies.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Feed the Flames' Ash effect to not trigger properly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Weapon mod 'Ravenous Locust' to not deal damage if used together with the 'Weightlessness' mod.
  • Mitigated an issue whereby players could get stuck in an animation after using Gravity Jump in multiplayer
  • Crash Fixes.

Square Enix довольна Game Pass: Сервис Microsoft отлично сработал в привлечении аудитории для Outriders

Решение сделать шутер Outriders доступным в Xbox Game Pass в день выпуска окупило себя с точки зрения привлечения игроков. Об этом президент Square Enix Ёсуке Мацуда заявил на брифинге по результатам компании за прошедший финансовый год.

Outriders' legendary drop rate is getting doubled in the next patch

The loot grind in Outriders is about to get a bit easier. Developer People Can Fly says the co-op game will be getting an update in the near future that doubles the rate of legendary item drops and reworks the way Outriders handles duplicate legendaries.

In the next Outriders patch, People Can Fly says the legendary drop rate will be "increased by 100%," meaning you'll be getting legendary items twice as often once the next update rolls out. There are additional changes, too - for instance, the developer says it's dropping the level brackets on legendary items, which means that when the update arrives, all legendaries will be able to drop at any level. Certain items, People Can Fly explains in the Reddit post, currently will only drop once you've achieved a certain level threshold, and that's getting removed.

Since legendary drops are currently pretty rare in Outriders, it's heartbreaking to discover that one that does finally drop is something you've already picked up. People Can Fly says it's going to be implementing a new anti-duplication system in the new patch. With this new anti-dupe system in place, any legendary items that you already have in your inventory or stash will be re-rolled once when it drops. If you've already got that second item, well, you're getting a duplicate.
