DDS2 Devlog: What’s with that weather?

Dealers, time to talk about the weather in DDS2! No, not like that, don’t worry. Promise it won’t be boring small talk. For some time now we’ve been polishing the game and we’re done with the mechanics, so we can also share some more visuals with y’all and tell you some more about the existing features.

Here’s what Rafał has to say about it:

The day-night cycle in DDS2 is not only a matter of time flow and realism, but it also holds a direct correlation with the gameplay. The island does not have a nighttime curfew like the ghetto in DDS1, but the daytime and nighttime gameplay differs. Daytime mostly focuses on sales, while the night is great for production, transportation and preparations for the next day. It is also the time that you can break into spots that are unavailable during the day if you prefer obtaining goods in the "less legal" manner.

Gameplay aside, the visuals and lighting of a dynamic open world like this also come with challenges. DDS2 not only has dynamic lighting but also varied weather – it can be cloudy, clear, rainy, stormy or foggy both during the day as well as nighttime. We had to find optimal ways to combine the sun and moonlight, skylight, post-processing and artificial light sources to achieve good visibility both indoors and outdoors at any time. Of course, there are still some times and places when it is really dark, but that's what you have a flashlight for, right? :)

So, now you know for sure that DDS2 has a day-night cycle and dynamic weather conditions. There are several types of weather and the environment reacts accordingly – things get wet when it’s raining, trees sway in the wind and waves form on the bodies of water.

The in-game lighting is a combination of standard light sources, global illumination, post-process and the eye adaptation mechanic. We’re using UE5’s Lumen system, which is a new dynamic Global Illumination and reflection system. It allows for advanced lighting, such as time of day or lighting that reacts to world changes, so exactly something we needed in DDS2.

There is a gameplay distinction between night and day, too. Our clients will write to us and our hired dealers during the day, and that’s also when we can schedule deliveries and make sales. During the night you will encounter more thugs on the streets but it’s also easier to sneak and hide.

Night has also one more perk – when people go to sleep, you get the opportunity to break into warehouses where you can find many valuable and/or useful items. That is if you want to go that route 👀

And as a treat here you have a screenshot with a lightning strike. It took us several tries to capture it!

Hey, we’re celebrating 8 years of our publisher!

Yo Dealers!

This month DDS will celebrate its 4th B-day. By the time they’re 4 y.o., human beans know how to walk, talk, and not poop in their pants. We’re happy to say that most of us has learned that power as well! Coincidentally, it’s also the 8th anniversary of our publisher Movie Games. Judging by what they do, by the age of 8 humans apparently know how to do a good discount.

Check this out: we’ve just become one of Movie Games Classics, which you can recognize by this cool motif around their Steam art:

Whenever you see this yellow ribbon, you can be sure that you can get this game at a super low price. Hence our current discount of XX%!

We’re also part of the Movie Games Simulator Classics bundle, where you can get 3 awesome games with 25% extra discount. On top of that, there’s a Movie Games 8th Anniversary Sale, so check it out if you’re hunting for games. Whew, that’s a lot!

Either way, we’ll dedicate a special post to our actual 4th B-day, so stay tuned. Over and out!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Wait…

Dealers, Happy Valentine’s Day!

May your Valentine dress in a bunny costume and bring you many chocolate eggs to munch on!

Wait…

Did we mix the holidays again…?

5 reasons to get playin’ DDS right now! #DDS2MADNESS

Yo, Dealers!

We are proudly entering this edition of Steam Sale with a super high discount (no pun intended). If you haven’t yet grabbed DDS, it’s a great opportunity to do so. Especially if you are waiting for DDS2.

Ah yes, as you may have already heard, there is this game called Drug Dealer Simulator 2. And it’s gonna be released in Q2 of this year!

It’ll be its own beast, working well as a standalone title, but it’s worth playing DDS1 nonetheless if you want to get 420% enjoyment from DDS2.

Here are the TOP 5 REASONS to play DDS1 before DDS2.

Hit it, Bluntie!

DDS2 is our second game from the Drug Dealer Universe, and it is, maybe a bit ironically, a prequel to DDS. Its story aims to emphasize the transition of Eddie, your mentor from DDS1. And while it works well as its own story, starting in DDS2, the contrast between the Eddies, and the weight of his decisions, is much more pronounced if you have played the first game.

DDS2 takes from the first game everything that made you a drug boss and brings it to another level. There are new mechanics, new features, a 5 times bigger open world map, and single-player AND 3-person co-op modes. However, it still shares its roots with DDS1, and it’s good to see where it started. Also regarding the style. A switch from a US town way past its prime to a tropical island is quite a staggering one!

If you want to quicker become a pro in DDS2, then the first game is a great training ground. Sure, DDS2 will be bigger and bolder, and with co-op, but you’ll get what the business is about! Ya know, if you manage to mix your drugs well in DDS you can do this in DDS2.

DDS has undergone a journey of its own, where it grew from the day one release to a game with new map areas, new mechanics, and even a big old mansion to buy and decorate like a true crime lord! It’s a BIG game that’ll offer you hours upon hours of content to enjoy.

There’s still a bit of work left for us to do before DDS2, so why not have fun in the meantime? Meet Eddie and Marcus, get into shady stuff together and see where it leads to. Especially since it’s Steam Spring Sale and DDS is the cheapest it ever was! Ready to start mixin’?

Drug Dealer Simulator is now 84% off! Grab it before the price goes back up.

DDS2 comic page 3!

And here we have the last page of our new short comic! Ready for the story finale?
Dealers, time to look for Blunties! They are still waiting to be found.
There will be 20 Blunties to find all around the (available) map. This time we made sure it will be much tougher to find them all. To make things interesting, some Blunties will only be visible at certain hours of the day.

To win the reward (FULL GAME - DDS2, when it's released), you will need to find all 20 of them and send screenshots with proof to our email: [email protected]. There will be 5 winners of this challenge: first come, first served!

BUT. Remember we have eyes everywhere so don’t post any Blunties you found for others to see. And don’t bother with data mining *wink wink*
