Journey Crossover Area | Update 1.4 Notes

Greetings, Army of the Night!

Bloodstained’s castle is built on a foundation of magic and mystery. Just when you think you’ve explored it all, there’s always another discovery to be made.

On August 23rd, the castle reveals its latest secret…a brand-new crossover boss area based on Journey, the award-winning videogame by thatgamecompany!

This new section of the castle, The Tunnels, is inspired by the imagery and level design of Journey, but with a Bloodstained twist. Hidden behind a secret entrance, the Tunnels are large and will require exploration and shard abilities to navigate.

Once you find (and fight) your way through the cavernous maze, the final challenge awaits: a battle with the level’s guardian. Your reward for survival is a special Journey-inspired equippable item!

Unlocking the Journey Boss Area

The entrance to The Tunnels will appear after you have freed Gebel and unlocked the Den of Behemoths. The room with the doorway will be marked on the castle map (no, it’s not IN the Den of Behemoths). Head to the highlighted area on the map and you’ll find the entrance inside.

Because this is a new, hidden area, it does not affect map completion percentages or achievements.

We are excited for you to explore this new area inspired by one of our favorite games: Journey!

1.4 Update Notes

4.9GB

This update also includes the following bug fixes and game updates:

* New playable Area for Miriam to explore based on Journey, thatgamecompany’s critically acclaimed game, with a unique boss fight and new item for Miriam to equip

* Fixed an issue with save and warp rooms randomizing when option was set to unchanged in Randomizer

* Fixed an issue with a timestamp error on Nintendo Switch version

* Fixed an issue where commands displayed is not updated for the custom controller configuration.

* General bug fixing

Known Issues
* Achievement requirements met after 1.30 and before 1.31 will not unlock automatically after 1.40. In order to unlock those achievements achieved during 1.30, the player would need to start a new game or new game+, and complete the requirements for the achievement again. Loading a save from before 1.30 and replaying the task may also work.

* We are investigating a glitch where all lamps and candles become indestructible until leaving and re-entering the screen.

Thanks for playing!

Development Roadmap - June 2022

Greetings, Army of the Night!

Since Bloodstained’s launch we’ve added multiple modes, three playable characters, special crossover areas and other improvements to the game...so what’s next?

With the Aurora now in the game, it’s time to update the Development Roadmap for 2022.

Our overall goal since launch has been to complete the free content for the game before adding premium DLC. Now that we are getting closer to the completion of development, we can reveal what we have planned.

The next update will be a new crossover area based on a non-bloodstained franchise. The new area won’t appear on the map (nor affect your completion rate) so you will have to explore the map to find it.

Following the crossover area will be the long-awaited Chaos and Vs Modes. These modes will bring online co-op and pvp action to Bloodstained! We are very excited to finally bring these modes to you!

New outfits for Miriam will be added to the game with a mix of free and premium options.

And finally, Classic Mode 2, a new premium mode! We received so much positive feedback from Classic Mode that we wanted to bring you more retro action.

We have not finalized the release timeframes for the new outfits and Classic Mode 2. They may be released separately, together or grouped with Chaos and Vs Modes. We will make that decision later.

More information on all the upcoming content will be released closer to their launch dates.

We truly appreciate everyone who has followed along on this amazing journey.

Thank you for your support!

New Playable Character!

We are thrilled to announce that the next playable (and free!) character for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is Aurora, from the blockbuster platformer RPG Child of Light!

Aurora has lost her way and awoken in a strange, dangerous new land. Armed with the Sword of Matildis and accompanied by the loyal Igniculus, she must find a way to escape. Despite the dire situation, Aurora is not alone. Johannes is on hand to help her increase her power by transmuting items she has found in chests or dropped by enemies throughout the game.

In addition to her sword, Aurora begins her adventure with the help of her trusted friend Igniculus and the directional Light Ray skill. Igniculus acts on his own and can temporarily slow down enemies or heal Aurora with a flash of light. The Light Ray uses MP and shines in front Aurora. Enemies caught in the light lock on will suffer damage.

Throughout her journey, Aurora gains power by defeating enemies and absorbing Shards. The Grade of each ability can be improved by collecting more shards of the same type and, with the help of Johannes, you can level up the Rank.

After defeating certain bosses, she will grow stronger and gain additional abilities as she ages. Each stage of her progression will add to her movement abilities and unlock previously inaccessible parts of the castle.

Starting a game as Aurora is simple. From the Main Menu, find an open save slot and start a new game. After choosing the save file name, you’ll be able to choose your starting character: Miriam, Zangetsu or Aurora. (Bloodless is chosen by naming a new save BLOODLESS in all caps).

We hope you enjoy playing as Aurora!  Thank you for playing Bloodstained!

Metroidvania Bloodstained gets free Child of Light DLC

Fans of freebies and Metroidvanias can rejoice as the latest piece of free Bloodstained DLC is due out tomorrow - and it's the long-teased crossover with another platform game. No, it's not anyone from the Castlevania series, it's actually Princess Aurora from Ubisoft's delightful Child of Light.

Way back in October last year, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night developer Artplay teased an upcoming free content update that would include a new character "NOT from the world of Bloodstained". The action-adventure game was supposed to get this "special crossover content" way back in 2020, but it kept on being put back.

Now, finally, the free Bloodstained crossover DLC is getting released tomorrow - March 31 - and it will bring Aurora from 2014's Child of Light to the game. As stated on the website, Aurora is accompanied by her wisp friend Igniculus, who can slow enemies or heal the player. Aurora's main offensive power is Light Ray, an MP-using beam that damages enemies. To play as her, just open up a new game slot and select Aurora as the character you want to play.
