If Deadlock is real, the visionary Valve we once knew is gone for good

So right away, this whole argument comes with a big caveat, one that needs to be made clear immediately and up top: despite hints, rumors, speculation, and even some leaked screenshots, there's no saying for sure that Deadlock, supposedly a 6v6 competitive FPS in the vein of Overwatch, really is the next game from Valve. Similarly, we don't know what Deadlock actually plays like or is like - even if it exists. And so, this article continues based on two assumptions. First, Deadlock will be the next game from Valve. Second, it's exactly the kind of game that everything we've seen and heard about it so far would suggest, a hero-based PvP shooter akin to familiar tentpole releases from Blizzard, Riot, and Respawn. What follows are my personal concerns - or rather, disappointments - but also some hopes, if those presumptions turn out to be correct.

One of the best Half-Life mods ever made is finally back from the dead

Doom, Duke Nukem, Blood, Quake, and of course Half-Life itself. There are dozens of great FPS games from the '90s, the timeless classics that helped shape the PC as a platform. Imagine now a kind of boomer shooter Valhalla, where the weapons, mechanics, and pyrotechnics that defined that glistening erstwhile era come finally together to fight, frag, and circle strafe for eternity. Good news, Steam's just introduced a better way to enjoy dodgy smut and 6/10s with your grandparents

Playing video games with your family is definitely never a recipe for arguments, and Steam’s just introduced an improved way to definitely not get into such arguments. Steam Families, now available in beta, will let you do a bunch of stuff with your loved ones, including play very mid games at the same time.

If you’ve previously been using features like family sharing and family view, a number of elements of this latest addition to Steam won’t be new to you, but they’ve now been smushed together alongside some other stuff, in order to make managing your family a bit less of a hassle. Well, it’ll still be a hassle when your 10 year old inevitably wants to buy GTA 6, but at least now you should be able to play something relaxing while they’re on with it, to help you come up with PG explanations for all the bits they don’t understand.

Half-Life remake dev finally has a new game, with a beta on the way

Black Mesa, the Half-Life remake originally launched all the way back in 2012, is so good it almost - just almost - supersedes Valve's original. Modernizing the epochal, Gordon Freeman-starring FPS, if for some reason you've found the very first Half-Life difficult to enjoy, or if you're searching for the ideal companion piece, Black Mesa is a surprisingly deep and ambitious overhaul, built on the Source engine that powers Half-Life 2. Officially sanctioned by Valve, Black Mesa put Crowbar Collective firmly on the map. Now, the developer is finally returning with a brand-new game, which you will be able to play before launch thanks to an upcoming beta.

Data strings in the latest Counter-Strike 2 update hint at two new Valve games, and one of them might just be Half-Life related

Half-Life fan's favourite pastime (aside from actually playing Half-Life games) is latching onto the tiniest hope that a new Half-Life might be just around the corner.
